Hi, I'm Suraj, a Chartered Accountant by Qualification and an entrepreneur and Equity Research analyst by profession. Back in childhood, I kept on working towards redefining processes at my school with an objective of increased automation and productivity. One such example was automation in scheduling and allotment of classes to the lecturers on the basis of left over course and difficulty level of the course. Gradually, I fell in love with finance and started to pursue "Chartered Accountancy (equivalent to US CPA)". My article ship (an integral part during CA) was in Tax assessment department. It helped me develop an important skill of "reading between the lines" and correctly interpreting connotation of a text. Alongside my articleship, I also hopped into a startup providing online automated Chartered Accountancy services (to solve the issues related to return filing and tax assessment). However, I realized that some industries and products need personal touch and can’t be completely automated and hence exited from it. Gratefully I secured an All India Rank in CA exams which helped me a lot stepping my foot into the doors of investment banking with JP Morgan Chase. While at my previous role at JP Morgan, I again tried working on a startup in the area of fin-tech. That involved using a good security mechanism. Search for security solutions landed me in the world of immutable blockchains and since then I have been upgrading my knowledge on blockchains, Defi and cryptocurrencies. I also enrolled for many certification courses on Blockchains and crypto currencies. My zeal and enthusiasm never lets me stop talking about blockchains and cryptos, ergo I also deliberate on the same at many colleges as guest lecturer. I realized while working with JP Morgan that my core skills are research and analysis. Thereafter, my skills and fascination towards businesses landed me with a Portfolio management firm “Compound Everyday Capital LLP” and then with "Angel one" Current role involves two functions viz. Fundamental research - Finding investment opportunities through analysis of financial statements of the company, free web research on industry and company data. Final outcome of the process is investing in Indian equities based on value investing principles with an emphasis on protection of capital. Rule based investment - Involves stock selection basis pre determined rules.
