This article raises an important point, that those who travel to sexually abuse children often target the poor and destitute. As the article states, food, clothing, even warm winter boots were used to coerce the victims. Imagine the evil involved to use hunger and cold as means of targeting and abuse. 

While I only recently assumed my role on the INTERPOL Specialist Group on Crimes Against Children Committee,I hope to advocate for programs to assist law enforcement in such nations educate their vulnerable about such activities.

It was a honor to contribute valuable insights on Travel Rule implementation for both Rec 15 & 16 as we delved deep into the nitty-gritty of Travel Rule implementations, exploring its role in pre-transaction illicit activity prevention as a mitigating tool & regulation for all crypto assets, including the increasingly popular (for the wrong reasons) stablecoins.  🚀🙌 A massive shoutout to the insightful and engaging convos with the delegate regulators & the brains in this space.

1️⃣ Patrick Hansen’s panel “Crossing The Finish Line: MiCA’s Last Mile in Focus” it was shared how France is gearing up to align with MiCA, yet keeping the crypto allure alive and kicking. 🇫🇷💼
2️⃣ The Taxbit “State of Regulation, Compliance, and Policy” Panel with Dr. Max Bernt and crew was a rollercoaster ride of insights, humor, and punches thrown at the US regulatory landscape. Global harmony, anyone? 🌍🥊
3️⃣ FATF VACG:
Day 1: If I could’ve earned a bitcoin or a tequila shot for every mention of "interoperability"! 😂 

Shared was data around how Travel Rule Compliance is already helping to stop illicit activity ! Challenges yup still there…WHY WHEN ITS 5 YRS LATER?? Well it was pointed out that technological solution for interoperability already exist and working. The main hurdle is that operators of closed networks strategically use their market power to exclude Travel Rule providers which hinders industry-wide interoperability and prevents effective Travel Rule compliance. 💥 🤯 Other challenges of R15 discussed were applying AML/CFT requirements to decentralized finance, and monitoring stablecoins that are minted off-platform. 

Day 2: Served a double whammy of insights from emerging threats in the virtual asset space to revamping payment messaging under Rec 16. Terrorism financing, ransomware, and the path to modernizing payment processing – we covered it all. 🛡️💡🤝 Biggest eye opener for me was from Ari Redbord on the growing adoption of stablecoin in terrorist financing and from Matthias Bauer-Langgartner that the % of crypto transactions that are used for illicit activity is very low - 0.34% in 2023.

Here’s to more collaboration, modernizing approaches to payments processing and authorization layers and technology that actually reflects the complex reality of various crypto transactions….Oh and yeah interoperability! 😉

Is not just fast fashion that has problems with labour exploitation. This report by Reuters  reports that Giorgio Armani Operations outsourced the production of bags, belts and leather goods to two firms which in turn subcontracted the work to four Chinese companies whose workshops were based on the outskirts of Milan, Italy.

These companies paid people 2-3 euros ($2.16-3.25) per hour to work 10 hours per day on average, in some cases seven days a week, to make bags that were sold to Armani's subcontractors for 93 euros, re-sold to Giorgio Armani for 250 euros, and put on the market for about 1,800 euros, investigators said.

Armani company put in receivership amid labour exploitation probe

Next week represents a microcosm of crypto's future and the two paths it can take: the choice between Innovate Finance's IFGS London conference and TOKEN2049 Dubai. 

The differences between these two conferences could not be more stark, and I'll start with the one that is most noticeable to anyone looking at their speaker pages. 

IFGS features 44% women speakers. 

TOKEN has 10% women and a wall of men as their promo pic. 

(To be clear, there are plenty of women to choose from - as evidenced by our online speaker directory (https://lnkd.in/eqtKRHG5) which features more than 100 subject matter experts ready, willing, and able to speak.)

IFGS features numerous subject matter experts, individuals with impressive industry backgrounds, and many thought leaders.

TOKEN has a cat, a teddy bear, and many people whose primary qualification to speak seems to be that they had the ability to hand over a $50,000 check to walk on stage. 

We're about to enter, or may already be in, a crypto bull run and MORE money will be flowing into crypto, and likely into marketing and field events. 

CMO's, I beg you, please remember that with great power comes great responsibility. 

To quote Julian Sawyer, who said it so brilliantly: "Upholding the culture of the digital asset industry is a collective responsibility in which every market participant has a role to play."

Marketing dollars matter. 

The money you give to conferences and events matters. 

Perpetuating pay-to-play conferences that ignore inclusion, offer questionable value to the industry as a whole, and are usually just a bucket of reputational risk waiting to happen, is a risky proposition for the industry as a whole. 

If you're a CMO or Field Events Manager, know that your dollars speak VOLUMES and sponsoring events that have 10% women speakers (sometimes less!) perpetuates a system that is broken and desperately needs your help to be fixed. 

We at the Association for Women in Cryptocurrency can't fix this without your help because as long as these conferences keep making money, they'll keep up the pay-to-play events that make it nearly impossible to include women that are worthy subject matter experts and thought leaders, but may not be "Founders" or "CEOs" with VC checks to get them on stage. 

If each of us needs to uphold the culture of the digital asset industry, then we need to look at what our events culture says about us and who we want to grow up to be. 

If you're a male speaker at a conference that's 10% women and 90% men, ask yourself if that's the strategy for "mass and global adoption" that crypto needs, or is that a recipe for exclusionary failure that hurts the industry as a whole?

Company culture and leadership are among the top factors that influence an employee’s decision to stay or leave.  

But, unlike poor leadership, which can often be fixed by addressing an individual’s actions, culture is something that is often ingrained in company policies. It takes a holistic lens to spark real change.

If they do as they’re asked, they get attention. The trafficker may even insist they owe money. If anything is questioned, it is answered with threats of violence or using personal information against the victim.
