It was a silly skit shot on an iPhone 13 with no sales CTA, no 10 step framework, no expert advice, it was a semi-funny silly skit where I changed into different shirts to be different people

I went on to close that deal

I had the biggest smile on my face after that 
(Regardless of closing the deal or not) 

That is one of those very special, out of the blue moments about being a content creator that make it worth it

How deep will you go to build an account list?

Me? 8 feet 3 inches….underwater

I had to build an account list based on a clients best-fit customers.

B2B Software companies, 51 - 1k employees and based in the US

But I needed to get the creative juices flowing so I tried something new, I went deep, 8 feet, 3 inches deep.

I got to work, starting off with industries, company size, and location.

Built a list of companies but quickly realized these are not just B2B. Usually, I'd have to go in and manually remove the B2C companies but there was a solution.

In Clay, I was able to create a column that would look at the website and other factors to determine if the company was B2B or B2C. 

After that, I could just filter by B2B. It's still not perfect, I still need to go through it before going live but it gets me A LOT closer.

All with just three breaths! And a WORLD RECORD

TOFU, MOFU, BOFU ad campaigns, do they work? 

NOOOOOOOO

I’m not sure they ever did. 

I used to set up campaigns like this. They looked awesome on strategy decks.

They looked amazing in QBRs

To be able to show your executive team, your boss, your client, that you've devised a strategy that can predictably move people from one stage to another until they buy

People eat that up

But unfortunately, that's not how people actually buy

B2B buying isn't this perfect funnel at all. 

Your buyers are jumping in and out of TOFU to BOFU to MOFU, BOFU to TOFU, BOFU to MOFU, MOFU to TOFU, TOFU to MALCO DROFU.

Right now, I think a cold and warm audience set up is much better. 

Cold audience: Typically an account list with awareness, educational content, social proof, etc.

Warm audience: Remarketing, third-party intent, signals, or event based actions (Such as new hire or promotion).

With sales CTAs, social proof, educational content, why you vs. others, etc.

I don't create an exclusion of the remarketing because I think it's beneficial to show people both sides of the content. 

This has worked way better but I'm not convinced that's the way either. 

For some companies, 80% to 90% of the demos come from the cold audience. 

For others, it’s the opposite

Unfortunately, still no real predictability. 

And I think it's beneficial for everyone to see educational awareness, social proof, sales call-to-actions, no matter where they are in the buyer process. 

Because you have ZERO idea where they are in the buying process, unless they tell you. 

Third party intent, signals does not mean they are warm, visiting your pricing page does not mean they are warm

They probably have no idea what you're talking about or remember being on your website.

At some point, it's just all going to be one bucket called target accounts

But I could be wrong. Prove me wrong. 

Regardless…. 

The TOFU MOFU BOFU strategy doesn’t work because that's not how people buy.

Boss: We can get personalized videos for each of our 107 target accounts by EOW right?

Me: Uhhh

Boss: Just use AI…

Sounds ridiculous, but these conversations are happening every week in marketing teams.

I’ve tried using AI, I’ve tried incentivizing the team with a pizza party, doesn’t work.

Just results in half-assed content that does nothing.

So when I saw what Capsule was cooking with Variants, I was blown away.

I’ve never seen a product that allows you to actually create personalized videos for 100s of accounts, industries, regions, languages, products, in a matter of minutes.

MINUTES 

Variants takes one approved template and allows to create hundreds and thousands of on-brand videos. 

I’m just can’t stop thinking about the 1 to 1 campaigns I create for clients on LinkedIn.

Hundreds of accounts and campaigns, but we usually only do images because of creative bandwidth and time to launch.

Which hurts because I know how powerful video is

But with this, this takes away the barriers.

Or making up stories to go viral 

Or just stealing other people’s content (and I’m creative and cautious enough that no one would even know)

I know I would be extremely good at those things

But nooo, I’ll just do things the lame way 🤦‍♂️

A lot of people on here have some bad friends. 

People out here blind liking, supporting eachother with likes and comments.

Just becuase they posted on LinkedIn

ENOUGH

Make your friends better

If their post isn’t good, don’t you dare like it

Comment with “What is this AI slop?” Or “Not your best post” OR “This is really what you wanted to share with the world today? 🤦‍♂️”

Sheet, if you really want to make them better, report the post.

That’s the only way they’ll get better

And when their next post is better, like it comment, go crazy but if it’s not, give them nothing.

Think about it

If your friend wants to be a chef, and you keep telling them their mutton chops are delicious but you’re stuffing them in your coat pocket

They’re never gonna get better

That’s not a friendship 

Don’t just support someone because they posted on LinkedIn, make them better

Be a good friend, a great friend, the friend they’ve always wanted

Don’t be a bad friend, make them better

I currently manage 454 Linkedin ads campaigns

No joke, 454 campaigns.

And outside of some very specific use cases, I rarely use maximum delivery (As you shouldn’t)

It's all manual bidding.

All of it.

I hate it so much, but that's what needs to happen so costs don’t get out of control and performance doesn’t flop

I hate it, I spend way too much time on it but it is a must for Linkedin ads performance.

Luckily, all I do is Linkedin ads

Demos from Linkedin thought leader ads went from ZERO a month to 6+ a month

8 turns into opps and 1 closed won.

All from one wee change 👀

Editing the post and adding a CTA link 

Nothing crazy, just made it easier for people to convert

And they did.

And it resulted in 8 more opps and 1 closed won...so far

One could say that the people from May to June converted elsewhere after seeing the thought leader ads because there was no CTA link

This is true and a very fair but I'm my worst devils advocate and thought about that.

I also looked at influenced pipeline and revenue from thought leader ads from the same time periods and saw a similar trend where that also increased in July to October compared to May and June

So it had an impact, regardless

So add a CTA link to your thought leader ad posts! 

You don't need to have a CTA link when you post it organically, but before you run it as a thought leader ad, edit the post, add the sales call to action with a link, and make it easy.

Looking for a new gym in my area, found one of those bougie ones, and was curious about how much it would cost.

Website had a pricing page, I clicked on the link. No pricing.

I’m in B2B, I’m used to this, no biggie.

It made me fill out a five field form with a CTA button that said “See Pricing”.

I figured whatever, I’ll play along.

The second I submitted it, they took me straight to a page with the exact pricing I wanted anyway, awesome.

About a minute later, they called me. I didn’t answer.

Then two text messages came through, followed by 2 emails. 

And then another call 30 minutes later 

I’m starting to think B2B is not so bad after all.

The more I scroll on LinkedIn, the more I realize how many people on this platform would be great cult leaders

They’re called Linfluencers now 

But they have a lot of all the early signs of great cult leaders

Here’s why:

1/ Blind followers

You see the posts with 500+ comments 

Half of them are from the same people saying  “You’re right!” or “This is the future 🚀” or “Great insight!

Post after post after post 

The other 48% just accept what they say is true, no fact checking, just acceptance.

Just blindly following what they say no matter

Same goes with the comment gate posts 

2/ Truth benders

Most of the posts are also lies but not full blown lies because they often leave space for interpretation

Some say they are hooks but come on, there’s a big difference 

For example:

“I replaced my $200k marketing team with this AI plug-in” 

The fudge you did

“I met an Uber driver that makes more than an executive”…reading on, you learn that the uber driver also owns stocks and real estate and won the lottery

Exactly what cult leaders do, bend the truth to their liking 

3/ There is also a lot word creating that doesn’t need to be created. 

This is usually more on the marketing side but try to spread said words and acronyms to the masses to get them to do something.

Hmmm doesn’t that sounds familiar??

All this stuff is happening on their platforms, no debate there but another platforms the comments with a lot different. The reactions to these posts look a lot different people will tear you apart.

Comments on LinkedIn, might be too nice.

Which is great, but also allows for the next wave of cultish leaders

That said, LinkedIn is the BEST

No sarcasm at all, it really is

I know that also sounds sarcastic but I swear it’s not true

8:51pm, Friday night, I hit send on a LinkedIn ads audit for a Series D SaaS brand valued at $950M (An Elephant)

High ticket SaaS, spending $45k per month. 

Full account based approach

One glaring metric immediately stuck out to me.

Audience penetration 

1% here, 6% there, highest campaign audience penetration was around 22%.

I then looked at the companies feature and in the last 30 days across account lists, they were only showing 3+ impressions to 5% to 15% of the accounts.

This is where I had to focus because I knew it was hurting them.

Audience penetration is the % of your audience that you’re getting in front of with you ads within a time frame (Usually look at 30 days)

This is impacted by audience size, budget, bids and how active your audience is on LinkedIn

Typically you want to see a 40% to 60% audience penetration but this company wasn’t even close to that.

What I recommended was this:

1️⃣ Change bidding and campaign objectives for a number of their campaigns.

They were using maximum delivery in many cases and their CPMs for their audience was higher than it should have been.

Changing to manual will definitely help with distribution and increase audience penetration.

2️⃣ Reduce audience or increase budget

They had too many campaigns and regions and industries within the account lists they were targeting for their budget.

They needed to decrease the accounts/ audience size becuase their budget just wasn’t going far enough.

I recommended a quarterly rotation for certain industries if they kept the same budget.

3 to 4 industry lists one quarter, pause and focus on 3 to 4 the next quarter.

But any engagement or video viewers from the first quarter would still be in the remarking campaigns so we’re not completely shutting off marketing to those industries.

3️⃣ Split out certain lists into multiple campaigns by employee size

They had 10,000+ employee companies and under 100 employee companies in the same campaigns.

The issue here is that the large companies would naturally get more impressions and spend because there’s more people in that audience.

Leaving a lot of companies with little to no impressions 

By splitting them out or adding auto exclusions based on company impressions in the last 7 days you could have more control over this.

I liked their overall approach, brand was strong, creative and messaging was pretty good.

They just weren’t getting their message in front enough of the their buyers, enough times

Google Gemini wasn’t even on my AI radar until today, and now I can’t stop thinking about it.

It can analyze full videos, NOT just the transcripts. You can upload a file or paste a YouTube link and it will actually watch the video and respond to your prompt. 

And it does it in minutes

I tested it with a one-hour YouTube link to the latest Notorious B2B episode. 

Asked for feedback on how Tas and I could make the show better. It gave me a clear list of what worked, what didn’t, and how we could improve each part.

The wild part is that the very first piece of feedback matched exactly what I was thinking.

Our video opens with a sponsor read from Exit Five. Love them, they’re amazing, butttt I knew we’d see some drop-off without a quick teaser before the sponsor, and Gemini immediately called that out.

Then things got even crazier.

I uploaded a random two-minute video of me cutting fruit. It’s not on YouTube at all. 

I asked for feedback, and it watched the entire thing and gave me notes.

That were helpful!

After that, I uploaded another clip and asked it to create a Sora 2 prompt so I could recreate the video style. 

It nailed that too.

I’ve been trying to get other AI tools to do this for weeks, and none of them could give anything remotely useful without a transcript. None. 

This is the first one that actually works.

I’m hooked. It’s fast, it’s accurate, and blowing my mind.

Sometimes this is how it feels but 10X worse 🥹

It’s 3:38pm on a Wednesday, reviewing late stage opportunities for a client.

One of them is a target account, $68k ACV, came in organic.

I knew we'd been marketing to them but “We’ve been marketing to them on Linkedin ads” isn’t what the budget holder wants to hear 

I look in LinkedIn Ads, pull up the company feature.

I can see paid impressions, paid clicks, paid engagements but that only goes back 90 days. 

I look at Fibbler and it has metrics, it tells me the paid engagements, paid impressions, paid clicks for a certain time frame but I need to be able to tell a story.

Then I notice this new feature called customer journeys and I dig in only to find out this is exactly what I’ve been looking for.

A month-over-month-over-month-over-month view of the paid impressions, paid engagements, paid clicks up to and past when the deal was created.

I was even able to look at the breakdown of the campaigns that influenced the deal

Now that's the juice you need to tell a story about how LinkedIn ads impacts pipeline and revenue.

I’m obsessed with it, actually too obsessed, I need to stop playing around with it and build some campaigns

Picture this: You’re running LinkedIn ads to a specific target account list. 

Your target accounts land on your website, they visit the pricing, demo, product and customer stories pages but they don’t book a demo 

Fair enough, happens all the time

But you’re no amateur, you identify that they were on the website and saw those pages and in real time

Find the Salesforce account owner and send the account owner a Slack message.

Account owner reaches out the timely message anddddd 

Demo booked 

Everyone’s happy

More importantly, if the account was on a specific page or pages, it’ll find and Slack the account owner in real time 

So they can do what they need to do or even just being in the know.

The possibilities are just endless because but imagine this for finding new accounts or if you’re using industry targeting and you filter by a certain employee size as an industries.

Which is pretty awesome as it gives us more insights, especially the paid conversions love that

If we were able to drill down into them.

Right now, it looks like it’s all conversions and both click and view 

Which isn’t too helpful unless you have one conversion action

But love the first step here

Want to book 20 meetings a week? Use the play hard to get strategy.

View A LOT of LinkedIn profiles, try at least 100 per day

But don’t connect with them 

If you do it enough, people will start to connect with you because they’ll be curious why your viewing their profile.

Don’t accept the connection though, I repeat do not accept the connection 

View their profile again but do NOT accept the connection, leave it alone. 

At this point, they’ll be craving your attention and that connection they sent but didn’t accept.

When they view your profile again, you now 
deny their connection and send them an inmail with your sales pitch

Immediately followed by “sorry wrong person”

Don’t even wait for them to respond, send it immediately so they have 2 notifications.

Theyll see it and they’ll be so confused and oddly curious.

This is the moment, the moment you have them.

Wait 2 more days and say something like “I didn’t mean to send my earlier message but I just realized you’re a [job title] at [company], you probably don’t need [your product or service] but I might have a few minutes to share it with you, you free right now?

90% will say, yes yes yes!! Because they are craving your attention.

If you view enough profiles per week, you’ll be swimming in 20+ booked meetings a week 

It’s flawless, works every single time!

April (Early) Fools!! Don’t do that

You can’t force people to buy. Trust me, I’ve tried.

You just can’t. Not a thing.

I am fully aware how crazy and silly that sounds to say out loud but some of you forget that it's not a thing.

Sure, you can persuade, use fear, promise the future, but if they don’t want to buy or can’t, they won’t.

You can have the best salesperson ever, a marketing team that is unmatched with more creativity, execution and chutzpah you didn't even know was possible

A product people love, adore and rave about it to their second, third and fourth cousins twice removed

Copywriting that melts your heart or makes you think you're not doing your job without the product.

It doesn't matter

Buyers do not care about your quota, that it's the end of the quarter, that you're on PIP, your CEO is breathing down your neck or your growth goals are unattainable.

You can’t force people to buy.

A lot of marketing and sales is just plain "ol" timing, being top of mind when they’re ready to buy.

Don’t worry though, when I figure out a way to force people to buy, I will make a workflow with AI and comment gate it so hard so you all get it for *free 😁

**Sort of free, you just need to like, comment, share and sending me a picture of your dog(s) and a business email, of course.

Thanksgiving parade sponsorship is such a  underrated B2B move.

Inbound notifications are crazy right now!

All the playbooks and “proven” frameworks you see on LinkedIn are similar to your Grandmas homemade cookies. 

You can steal the handwritten recipe,  follow it to a tee but they fall apart in real life.

We see these “I went from 10k to 25k and doubled my ARR” playbooks all the time

You try them and they don’t work but you always fall for the next one.

They don’t fault because they are all lies, although some definitely are. 

It’s because the real results come from the tiny tweaks, the pivots, the small changes you make when the plan stops working.

The playbook can inspire you. It can point you in a general direction. 

But the part that actually grows revenue is the nuance. That is the difference between 1X MRR, 3X MRR, and 15X MRR.

Just because something 10X’d someone else’s business does not mean you will get anything close to that. 

Even if your brand, product, industry, and resources were identical, the small adjustments would still be the deciding factor.

This is exactly why I give everything away for free. 

Direct competitors even ask how I do something and I walk them through the entire thing. I will even record a video showing it. 

Because the stuff that truly drives results cannot be packaged in a checklist.

Execution matters. The person running it matters. In the moment creativity matters.

So the next time you see a “3X in 90 days” post or a comment gated growth loop, remember this:

It probably won’t work for you.
