Trust is the foundation of any successful team. That base can be shaken by disloyalty, whether by hiding information, arguing, or gossip. When trust is lost, teams become disjointed and dysfunctional, and teamwork suffers..

The image of an individual is extremely valuable, much like the reputation of a brand. Disloyalty damages one's reputation and can affect chances in the future. Examples of this include spreading rumours and disparaging colleagues.


Employees want to work for an organization that supports and values them. Talented people are motivated to leave their loyalties in search of better opportunities, which increases turnover and compromises a team's stability.
Disloyalty severs mentorship bonds. 

When experienced professionals shy away from guiding the next generation due to fear of betrayal, valuable learning opportunities dwindle.

Transparent communication is pivotal to success. Disloyalty breeds misinformation, miscommunication, and the fear that words shared in confidence might be weaponized against one another.

Healthy competition can drive growth, but disloyalty turns it toxic. Colleagues begin undermining each other's success, leading to a cutthroat atmosphere that hinders overall progress.

Engaged employees go the extra mile; disloyalty extinguishes that fire. When loyalty isn't reciprocated, employees feel disheartened and lose the drive to give their best.

The Myth of Pizza Parties: Your Engagement Strategy is an Insult.


We spend millions on engagement surveys, run elaborate "appreciation weeks," and offer perks like free lunch and ping pong tables. Then we wonder why engagement scores barely move.

Here is the harsh, controversial reality:
The majority of what HR calls "employee engagement" is superficial fluff designed to distract from two foundational failures:

Pay and Leadership.
Stop pretending a free pizza on Friday will fix a toxic Monday-to-Thursday.

🌿 The Insulting Distraction: When an employee is underpaid, overworked, or dealing with a micro-managing boss, a free bagel is not a perk—it’s an insult. It's a cheap, visible substitute for the real investment and respect they are missing.

🌿 The Root Cause is Pay and Power: True engagement is driven by fair compensation (feeling valued) and autonomy/respect (feeling trusted). If those foundations are broken, no amount of swag or forced fun will fix it.

🌿 The Manager is the Metric: Your engagement score is a direct reflection of the quality of your front-line management. The most engaging perk you can offer is training your managers to be better leaders—to provide clarity, give feedback, and get out of the way.

If you're an HR leader, audit your budget. How much goes to superficial "fun," and how much goes to base salary adjustments and leadership development? That tells the real story.

Is employee engagement genuinely about culture, or is it fundamentally about compensation and competent management?
