The University of Arizona

The UA is a Research 1 institution and Arizona's land grant university. It has over 43K students, 12K staff, and an annual budget of $1.8B.  I led the Community Relations team, which included responsibility for building and maintaining relationships with elected and appointed city and county leaders, as well as the local business and non-profit community.  I also oversaw neighborhood relations.  I acted as an advisor to senior leaders about issues that impact the community, and consulted on communications efforts in collaboration with the leader of the Communications team.  
Special project:  Appointed by the president to lead a campus-wide task force to address issues raised by student activism regarding diversity and inclusion.  This task forced spanned all areas of the university and included over 100 participants.  The final report was accepted by senior leadership for implementation. 
Special Project:  Helped to create and chaired the Diversity Advisory Council, a group of campus leaders who advise the Provost and other campus leaders in regards to issues of diversity and inclusion.  Led the creation of the UA Diversity Strategy, which supported the organisation's broader business and academic strategy.

Assistant Vice President of Community Relations

While in this interim position, I managed the new brand development project for the UA, a research I land-grant institution with 40K students and 12K staff.  I led the Marketing team and helped the university begin the transition from a decentralised marketing function, to one that had a cohesive look and feel across colleges and departments.

Community Provider of Enrichment Services (CPES)

Member of the Board of Directors of the for-profit ESOP Community Provider of Enrichment Services (CPES).  Member of the Finance Committee and Governance Committee.  
CPES is one of the leading providers of services for children and adults with issues related to behavioral health and for those who experience developmental disabilities. They have over 1,000 caring staff, and provide services in California and Arizona.

Started and managed a retail legal services firm that offered low-cost legal document services for the Southern Arizona community. Certified by the Arizona Supreme Court, QuikHelp had two retail locations and a fully bilingual staff.

Worked with and managed case teams across a variety of industries.  Case work involved developing full-potential domestic and international growth strategies, analyzing competitive dynamics, and developing action strategies.  
Main responsibilities included: Managing consultant work-teams and project workflows to develop and execute analytic plans, creating recommendations for clients. Working collaboratively with C-suite and other high-level clients to identify issues and develop solutions. Creating presentations to communicate results and drive client action. Managing, developing, and mentoring consultant teams.

As a direct report to Corporate Controller and CFO, I worked with Sales and Legal teams to structure advertising deals so that they were financially beneficial to the company. I was responsible for ensuring accounting treatment of sales contracts for our US and four Latin American offices were GAAP compliant.
Special projects included: Led 20 member cross-functional, international team that developed and implemented company-wide accounting system for tracking and analyzing signed and pipeline contracts. Trained in-country finance and sales teams to use new system. Reduced Accounts Receivable Days from greater than 90 to approximately 65 days.
And I led interdepartmental team (approx. 80 people in 4 countries) that planned for and implemented Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance. Developed work plan, allocated resources, and monitored progress of implementation.
