My three decades living on a horse farm shaped more than my relationship with horses – they built my professional DNA. Growing up on a business-operated horse farm in the Midwest with a herd of 25, I learned early what life with horses truly demands: consistency, patience, strategic thinking, and physical stamina. Long before college or a professional career ever crossed my mind, my days began early in the morning – filling water buckets, baling hay, cleaning stalls, and working in my family’s equine retail store. These dynamic days taught me project management, budget oversight, and the art of juggling operational tasks – while also nurturing a deep respect for animals, nature, and hard work. Through those years, I built upon that foundation with competitive riding, horse training, and teaching horseback riding to children and adults. I learned how to assess a green horse’s personality, sequence training plans methodically, and pivot quickly when a horse spooked or stalled – all while communicating clearly with veterinarians, vendors, horse owners, equestrian students, and horse show judges. These experiences sharpened my communication skills, strategic problem resolution, and relationship building, because working with horses and the people who are passionate about them demands clarity, calm under pressure, emotional intelligence, situational awareness, and the ability to read a room. My competitive riding career further refined those abilities. Preparing for shows meant coordinating travel logistics, managing multiple schedules for tack, feed, farrier, and transport, and adapting rapidly when weather or equipment issues threatened the plan. This athletic discipline carried directly into my professional life. I became travel-savvy, adept at event and meeting coordination, and a master of calendar and workflow management – because I knew that every minute matters. When I shifted gears – literally – and began riding a motorcycle, new dimensions were heightened over those ten years: independent thinking, focus, road-awareness, and risk assessment. Riding solo across highways and backroads honed my ability to evaluate conditions in real time and make strategic choices fast – skills that I bring to unexpected project pivots, conflict resolution meetings, and budget optimization discussions.
