A Purposeful Life. 

Received the sad news of Sis Enda’s passing. While I’m not an Assuntarian, I’ve never heard of another Headmistress as beloved as her. Few alumni and even schools would be keen to invite their former Headmasters to dinner with them nor keep all alumni updated about their well-being.

I’ve always admired her life of sacrifice and service to God. She exemplifies a spirit of excellence and you can see so much kindness on her face. 

While on LinkedIn we often glorify successful corporate leaders who churn out gold for investors and themselves, I want to take this moment to honor the life of someone who knew her purpose and her calling and was faithful til the end. 96! If only I could have been so privileged to care for her in her old age.

She raised some very famous leaders of our time because only she was given that talent and mandate to bless Malaysia in the way that she was designed for. 

Do we know our purpose in life and are we pursuing that higher calling?

What’s your Michelin equivalent? And does it matter?

I love hunting for Michelin restaurants both in and out of the country and have met even more obsessed friends whose last count was 84. Four of us attempted to book Noma last year but we’re quite sure we got beaten out by bots.

When it comes to your business, does a certain industry rating count and where do you stand if stars were to be given out?

Personally, Google ratings are a benchmark for me as there has yet to emerge an industry equivalent in our sector. I also generally trust it more than the red one you see here as I get a more accurate gauge from a larger pool of data.

In all honesty, the standard of the restaurants that have received a star of late has been disappointing. I honestly feel that they’ve not kept up and I way enjoyed their previous menu. Not to mention it is not fun being hit with a 25% price increase. 

Here’s a tip - if there is one you truly like, frequent it often before they receive their star and you receive a price revision. There is still a reason for the acknowledgment but just like very fine wines, it is a marginal dose of increased happiness. 

Just like what might seem like everything else, it hasn’t stopped anyone from consuming either way. Ah, human beings.

Gaining a different perspective to paths well-trodden.

One evening, I signed myself up for a herpetofauna walk and found myself on familiar ground, in different light and with a very well-versed guide.

With her, we discovered so many different species on what is our usual weekly hiking route. And we learnt how to spot them using the different coloured lights.

Sometimes in business or in our career, we need a good guide/mentor/coach/counsellor to help us navigate the same path we’ve been taking, but not being able to see the answer or the solutions before us. Good to gain new perspectives as always.

Really enjoyed the walk, and I found out the activity is called Herping. I’m afraid to ask what the people doing it are called. God forbid but a cheeky answer did come to mind.
