No one is impressed that you're a '2x Dad'.

I'm sorry. It had to be said. If you're offended, please unfollow.

You're a proud 'girl dad', (whatever that means) you want to post every other day about the warm and fuzzy feelings of watching Disney movies, IDK. You do you.

Look. I have six kids. 

If I put '6x Dad' in my headline, it is absolutely not a flex.

It is a cry for help. 

It means I'm tired, I haven't had a quiet meal since 2011, and my main skills are turning off lights and stepping on sharp toys.

Unless you're "17x Dad" and the star of a reality TV show (now that's a impressive!), it's not the headline differentiator you think it is.

It's on par with 'breathes oxygen' and '1x Husband.'

I don't mean to be mean. Just saying it how it is.

There I was thinking I was being personal, kind, and generous and it BLEW UP IN MY FACE.

Never again will I take time out of my life (did I mention I'm running 2 businesses, have a baker's dozen of children to feed, and protecting 17 endangered Amazon animals?) to send individual videos to people I want to meet.

Their profiles look cool, you think you're going to have a quality connect, and then...you get this response. 

Sheesh, man. This strategy SUCKS.

Thanks a lot Daaaaarren. (I'm sure your angry horde of McKeevians [your rabid followers] are coming for me now)

Btw—let's clear the air about video messages. 

Weird? Uncomfortable? No go? 

Also this needs to be said:

Just by nature of me looking at your profile and thinking about what I would say to you specifically..doesn't that make it personal? 

I, in fact, use ZERO automation or repeat videos. I would argue this is the opposite of canned.  

What do I know? I'm just an executive writer who drives a Honda Odyssey. 

And look, if you're telling yourself, "Wow, this Morgan guy is a psycho and the video probably was terrible."

I will prove it to you.

We take ourselves so seriously.

I said:

I’m comfortable with being me.

I don’t play the comparison game.

I’m content with where I’m at.

I’m the happiest I’ve ever been.

Life is good. I love it.

I broke the golden rule of Linkedin:

NEVER tell people you're going to send them a video.

They'll get excited. Raise their hands in the comments. Tell you about their curiosity. 

All of the sudden you're spending general conference weekend (and your birthday) sending messages.

😭

When someone is throwing shame (or shade), like their website.

The anger stops. The argument is finished. The aggressor is pacified.

Bad feelings become good vibes.

What was this fine gentleman supposed to do? Return the compliment?

"You know, I went and read your Substack. It's fabulous. Good work."

The tendency is to stoke the fire of resentment, building a bonfire of belittling remarks to strangers on the internet.

Do I always do respond with such aplomb? No, absolutely not. 

My friends know me as the sheriff of sarcasm. (along with some of my other titles: thought leader burrito supreme, Morgatron 5000, the-one-who-must-be-named, etc.) 

Sometimes I can't help myself. I'm human. I give in to my proclivities every now and again.

But! This week, I'm choosing kindness.

If you say something barbaric on my posts, I will respond with love.

I will diffuse the situation with a delightful comment such as, "You must be having a hard day. How about I send you a Starbucks gift card?"

It was never my intent to dominate Google search..

Byron didn't stand a chance.

There he went searching for himself, attempting to see what would pop up with his own name.

I can't imagine the disappointment when I showed up.

Smug look, sitting on my old porch, looking like a model out of an L.L. Bean magazine.

He probably thought I was mocking him.

"Looking for someone else, bud? Come take a seat and cry into my shoulder."

Unfortunately, this is happening with a lot of my friends right now.

My accelerating popularity is causing an internet ripple effect, causing pages and images to connect together in my knotty Snydie web.

Did I want to 'take over' Google and LinkedIn? Of course not.

Am I glad it's happening? Maybe.

I'm no SEO guy, but I guess I'll start calling myself an expert.

When you have a shining visage like this...

..you just have to accept it.

Sometimes you choose the path.
