Leads a team of seven international PA professionals and four collateral duty PAOs in the planning and execution of all internal and external communications for NATO maritime operations on a 500-person staff, across four standing naval task forces, and one year-long security assistance mission.

Commander, Carrier Strike Group 15

Public Affairs Special Assistant to two-star Admiral and staff. Responsible for the training, mentoring, and assessing the San Diego and forward deployed media production teams for the final stage of Navy deployment certification. This includes a holistic inspection of their measurement-based media campaigns to ensure strategic communication objectives, as well as teaching trade skills in print, imagery, video production, and graphic design.

USS Nimitz

Adviser to one-star admiral and ship's commanding officer. Responsible for the planning and execution of all communication/campaign plans for nearly 7,500 personnel spread across seven ships as part of USS Nimitz and Carrier Strike Group 11. Responsible onboard Nimitz for the day-to-day operations of a print shop, portrait studio, closed-circuit ship's television, publication of Nimitz News magazine, and all Nimitz and Strike Group digital media properties. Received 17 Department of Defense media awards, including three Thompson-Ravitz awards for programs that demonstrate research, planning, implementation and evaluation.

I received a graduate degree in mass communications and media studies. Although I've had previous experience in communication theory and research, this education afforded me a deeper examination into quantitative and qualitative research and evaluation. I also enhanced my understanding of statistics and how to properly measure communication plans.

Planned and implemented communications plan for first land-based iteration of humanitarian mission, which involved military forces from U.S./Japan/Australia/New Zealand treating hundreds of patients, construction of four schools, two hospitals, and numerous medical and veterinarian seminars. 

Targeted media placement resulted in national radio spot with reach of one million listeners, four command videos, widespread local print/radio/broadcast coverage and a double increase in Facebook shares/likes and You Tube Views.

I provided Navy strategic communication guidance for nearly 3,500 Marines and Sailors while spearheading a 12-person team to develop an aggressive hometown marketing campaign, operational deployment metrics and the creation of the first command newsletter, cruise book and Facebook page. 

Created proactive media coverage, led tours for senior government officials and collaborated across the staff for a 500-person ship's reception. These events showcased to government, civilian and military officials the critical importance of the Navy's mission and educating others on the ship's capabilities. 

Served as chair for command's diversity team. Led numerous seminars and book discussions dedicated to inclusion and the importance of wide-ranging voices at the most senior levels of management.

US Pacific Command

Developed the command's first integrated, proactive media communication plan. Provided media assessments and strategic counsel for all directorates. Planned and executed numerous media engagements in support of command mission.

Media Relations Officer

Developed and executed the Pacific Command social media strategy and shepherded the day-to-day operations of all digital media. Sought-after expert on social media. Served as speaker and panelist for various local conference to teach on the importance of social media planning and strategy. Raised the visibility of command's digital properties by 50 percent across all platforms.

Social Media Director

Planned, executed and measured fleet's distinguished visitor program, exposing more than 500 civic leaders to aircraft carrier operations and sailor's first-hand experiences serving in the Navy. Created detailed survey which measured guest's likelihood to tell a friend about the experience.  

Program won the 2010 Navy Chief of Information Thompson-Ravitz Award for Community Relation Excellence.

Folks, I did some digging into this bill this morning. This sounds like a very good measure for our veterans. Having to choose between two ✌️ benefits when one has been separated due to no fault of their own doesn't seem right to me. I’m happy to see this getting pushed and hopefully this measure makes it to the finish line. Thanks for the post Crystal C Romero that led me to read up on this one.

Yesterday, 5,000 of you saw what Senator Roger Wicker did.


Today, I want you to understand what it means.

The Major Richard Star Act isn’t some new government giveaway.
It’s a correction for 50,000 combat-injured veterans who were forced out before 20 years of service.

They didn’t retire early.
They got broken serving this country.

The CBO says fixing this costs less than one half of one percent of the defense budget.

The bill has 74 bipartisan Senate cosponsors and 326 in the House.
And yet, it still sits on the floor because Roger Wicker blocked it.

This is the part nobody wants to say out loud.
The system doesn’t care until we make it uncomfortable not to.

Here’s what you do right now:

Tag your Senators.


If you’re a veteran, speak from experience.
If you’re a civilian, speak from principle.

Wicker got his concurrent pay when he retired.
He took the deal for himself.
Now he’s denying it to those who were wounded in combat.

That’s not leadership.
That’s a betrayal of every person who raised their hand and swore an oath.

And until that vote happens, we’re not shutting up.
