I have always been one who never shied away from taking risks.

I left home to pursue my Masters in 1992.

Returning in 1994, I found the love of my life on Match.com in April 1996 and 28 years later we have been married for 27 years

I moved to Belgium giving up my lucrative career at Republic Bank to live in Belgium with my Belgian spouse.

18 months later I was back in Trinidad as Belgium at that time seemed confused at how a woman of colour could be so educated and jobs were hard to find (Diversity was not as common back then). I was lucky to be re-accepted into Republic Bank, but it was no longer the bank I knew, having undergone a merger, including the big millenium switch in technology, so I left on Feb 14, 2001 and formed my own consultancy company with my husband.

A year after volunteering to help underprivileged girls by training and mentorship, I was presented with the Faith Wiltshire award for IT on International Women's Day by none other than the country's then prime minister, the late Dr. Patrick Manning.

Soon after I joined the field of academia, balancing my business consultancy life with transferring knowledge to willing minds eager to absorb new ideas and value critical thinking.

Then fast forward to May 2010 I was appointed  Minister of Health by a former EMBA student who had become the country's first female PM Kamla Persad-Bissesar

In July 2011 I was called by my country to serve as it's UN Ambassador in Geneva.

I soon discovered that both politics and diplomacy were not my "cup of tea" and armed with that enlightenment, I settled with my Belgian spouse in Belgium in late 2012, where I tried to learn Dutch and re-enter academia. I was more successful in the latter than the former, as my hubby says I speak Dutch like the guy from 'alo 'alo ( Hubby Andre Cornelis  speaks at least five languages fluently). I maintained my consulting linkages, balancing such with my academic career at various universities in EuropebVelsalius, United International Business School , UBI Business School and Arteveldehogeschool 

Leaving academia, diplomacy and politics behind ... I have embarked on a new career blending my strengths as a management consultant specialized in strategy and crisis management, focused on sustainability issues, to become an author ( writing has always been in my blood)

After months of writing, rewriting , editing, with litres of coffee... I'm ready to launch my first book - "Empowering Social Growth - An exploration of the intricate relationship between eSg and social impact".  It becomes available on Amazon from May 4th 2024 as an ebook ( sustainability in mind) and also as a paperback soon after ( for those who still need to 'feel' the pages).

Only time will tell if I have chosen  the correct path...but if I didn't attempt...I would always wonder..what if...

Today is a national holiday in Trinidad and Tobago, for as a country, my fellow nationals join the #Muslim community in celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr.

In Belgium where I reside and I'm also a citizen, alas it appears the true awareness of how special today is, is lost on the majority of persons.

Never ceases to amaze me the highly level of inclusivity  demonstrated by my two-island state, in it's comingling of multiple  cultures, religions and races!

To all my Muslim friends on LinkedIn and around the world, today means the end of the Holy month of Ramadan.  Turning to the Blessed Festival of Breaking the Fast, they pray in gratitude to Allah for the help, and strength extended, during the month of fasting.

In the heart of embracing the principles of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (#DEI), which are paramount for fostering social growth and understanding, I had the pleasure of commemorating Eid-ul-Fitr yesterday. 

Eid, a significant celebration in the Muslim calendar, symbolizes the essence of community, sharing, and unity. Reflecting these values as a Roman Catholic from a twin island state (Trinidad & Tobago) that has always embraced diversity and transcending cultural barriers, I opened my home to my closest Belgian friends, embodying the true spirit of #inclusivity and #crosscultural appreciation.

Our dinner table became a vibrant canvas, adorned with an array of dishes deeply rooted in Asian culinary traditions, each telling its own story of both my #heritage (my great-grandparents were Muslim) and that of other countries, enticing flavors, and communal harmony. This gathering was more than just a meal; it was a testament to how cultural celebrations can be pivotal in breaking down barriers, fostering understanding, and promoting a shared sense of humanity.

Such experiences underscore the importance of incorporating DEI principles into every facet of our lives, including our professional domains.

A beautiful photo taken by the photographer has become a classic that has been circulated for decades. 

A Hungarian photographer, Attila Manek, accidentally caught a mother choosing to buy fruits and vegetables in a market in Budapest, Hungary in 1987, carrying a small baby in a transparent plastic bag, and the baby gnawing at an apple.
In the photo, the mother with short hair was profiled, and she looked elegant and looked like Princess Diana of England, which amazed many people.

However, what was even more eye-catching was that she went to the vegetable market and carried her baby in a large plastic bag.  The muscular lines of the tendons and the images full of disharmony have made this photo widely reposted by netizens for many years.

33 years after that photo, photographer Attila Manek once again found the pair of Hungarian mother & daughter. At that time, the baby in the plastic bag had grown up to become a light mature woman in her 30s. 

The photographer and the pair of mother & daughter once again returned to the Budapest market, to recreate the scene in a funny way.
The daughter happily held the photo taken by Attila Manek earlier and posed for another photo after 33 years.  

Attila Manek shared this latest photo of the Budapest mother and daughter in early 2020, and it quickly evoked many comments from netizens: "Too touched! That little baby grew up healthy and healthy back then" and "The mother after more than 30 years is still elegant and beautiful.  ", "I really like this pair of mother and daughter, I feel that their relationship is very good", "Mom really looks like Princess Diana, and still exudes an extraordinary temperament."

A momentary shutter connected stories 33 years apart, leaving eternal images and memories. This is the combination of warm #humanism and cold #technology.
