The jewellery category is a growth area for Graysonline, now part of Grays Ecommerce Group (GEG) - Australia's largest ASX listed ecommerce retailer.

In the FY14/15 over $35m worth of fine jewellery was sold at auction - over 25,000 pieces.

GIA Certified Diamonds, Engagement Rings, Precious and Semi-Precious Gemstone jewellery, loose stones, branded watches and vintage pieces are all available starting at $9.

GraysOnline is the country's largest ecommerce auctioneer.  Over 1.2 million unique visitors  each month come to the site to grab a quality product at an amazing price.  Grays also purchased established online retailers oo.com.au, dealsdirect.com and topbuy.com.au which pushed the  company to a HALF BILLION dollar turn over - dispatching over 200,000 orders per month.

My role involved different communication aspects - from spokesperson appearances on TV, securing appearances and coverage in the media, along with TV partnerships, sponsorships, community integration, supporting charity involvement and social media.

The objective was to secure editorial across all media for the different brands.  From Channel Nine News Sydney, A Current Affair and the Today Show for GraysOnline, along with product integrations with Channel 10's The Living Room. I was also the ambassador or 'FACE' of GraysOutlet.com appearing on Today Tonight, A Current Affair, Ten News and on 2UE and 2GB radio plus loads of editorial on online and print titles.

I orchestrated business development events such as the HIA Home Show and the Good Food and Wine show in Sydney and Melbourne.   One weekend event created over $800,000 in sales.

My passion play was creating sponsorship deals include The Sony Foundation, McGrath Foundation plus numerous smaller charities.

As a ecommerce leader, I create a sales channel using live Facebook Auctions to create new customers, and monetize their presence.  Using Buddybid, I was able to sell over 250,000 bottle of wine on Facebook creating a very profitable sales, branding, social and data insights channel.

Born with Style was the Licensee for Jeep and United Colors of Benetton.  We created strollers, cots, and accessories for these brands and sold them into leading Australian retailers.

I was also the distributor for Kolcraft baby products, Brother Max feeding products, Baby Cubes feeding basics, Sesame Street hardgoods and Loopa bowl - as seen on USA Today.

I worked with David Jones, Toys R Us, Target, Big W, Franklins and hundreds of independent childrens stores.  I created from scratch full ranges for Toys R Us and Big W that achieved high sales for them and catalogue appearances.

Exporting become the next step with items created in Australia for Jeep and Benetton being sold to South Africa, New Zealand, the UK and Spain.

My son was on duty with the NSW Ambulance last night.  
My heart sank when I turned on the TV.
Minutes later I got a text from him ... "I'm fine.  Not going so far."
He is based on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.

I watched, glued to the TV like most of us, not really believing what was happening at Bondi.  

I was holding my breath like every other family member of someone who is in the police and ambulance.  These beautiful humans who go to work each day to protect and care for all of us. 

Will is doing placement - his last subject at uni before graduating from Paramedicine.  He's been a first responder for 18 months - a job he loves while completing his degree.

I don't want to speak the names of the evil ones who created this tragedy, but I hope our society honors those who stood up, and cared for others.   

To every person who helped another yesterday,
To the Bondi Rescue lifeguards who provided first aid,
To all the police, fire and ambulance staff who fight every day,

I have so much Brand Love for Gelato Messina ❤️
It’s the only brand of gelato I will eat. 

Actually, I travel across cities to their stores.  I even make friends meet for gelato instead of coffee. 

It’s my indulgence.

But I love their brand just as much. I’ve seen them do brilliant partnerships with other brands - my fav to date was the Four Pillars Gin Xmas pudding flavour.

However this week at the Forbes Australia Women soirée I was over the moon to receive a full size Sundae Body X Gelato Messina lamington body foam.

Beautiful alignment of brands working together - I feel like they did this just for me.

As a buyer of both - I’m even more SOLD.

Someone I admire, told me that The Brand Matchmaker wasn't a great positioning statement.

She said what I do is create TRUST in brands - And CEO's can get behind that.  The Brand Matchmaker doesn't do what I do justice.

The Brand Matchmaker popped into my head at Professional Speakers Australia - PSA because we were asked to describe what we do for a living to a seven year old.  

Also, most of the time when I introduce myself and say I do Commercial Partnerships, people give me a nod and sometimes look puzzled.  

The Brand Matchmaker invites a conversation at a networking event, especially when I follow it up and say "have you watched The Block - and seen heaps of brands in the show?  Well, I help brands find businesses who are already talking to their ideal customers, be part of the conversation."

I have a date with Oprah Winfrey tonight.
Well thousands of others are coming too but I’m still in the same room.

I grew up with Oprah on my TV screen. She and Tracey Curro were the reason I wanted to be a journalist but my year 11 teacher told me I wasn’t a good writer and banished that idea.

Side note: I wrote a book that’s won gold medals and got book of the year - so take that Miss Russell….

I always admired how Oprah asked questions with depth and warmth that allowed the other person the chance to share their truth and power.

How do you decide if YOU want to work with a client?
I presented to a panel for a tender yesterday, and I was so pleasantly surprised when one person asked, "We've talked about our KPI's, but what's important to you?"  

Ok, first up - a client who would ask that question is EXACTLY the kind of client I want to work with, but I had to answer on the spot.  Here's what I said...

1.  Let's move the needle - not just vanity metrics but impactful change that affects the bottom line.
2.  Let's have some fun - business is tough, but working together should be a pleasure.  To learn, be open-minded, and creatively curious about how we can work together to solve a problem.
3.  To see your boss want to share this with the leadership team - I'm happiest when we can create something powerful that the big boss wants to brag about and the team I'm working with is acknowledged and proud of what we did.

Such a special day rubbing shoulders with some seriously impressive humans - Therese Tarlinton - Brand Matchmaker steering the ship as MC, and sharing the stage with James Castrission, Jason McDougall, Dr Emily Heath, Dr Andrew Lewis and Larry Robertson. One hell of a lineup to be part of.

I tested a few new pieces of my keynote today. I still catch myself wondering whether what I talk about is too “basic”, but the feedback is almost always the same: when it comes to looking after ourselves and the people around us, the basics aren’t basic. They’re the bedrock. And it seems I’ve got a knack for making that stuff feel doable - helped along by a pang of humour and the odd interesting story or two.

There are levels to this speaking caper. No idea what level I’m on - but I know I keep levelling up by surrounding myself with people like the crew today.
