In this day and age, having more than 1 income stream is absolutely necessary.

In 1990 UK house prices were approx £58,153… yes you read that right. That’s basically the deposit you pay now to get a half-decent home in our area 😭

So who can blame Millennials and Gen Z for HUSTLING like their life depends on it? 

The hurdles just keep getting higher and higher.
As culture and economics adapt, we must also. We have to.

To add to that list my partner and I also:

- Run video biz Three Counties Media
- Own an escape room multisite Locked Escape Rooms
- Own a partially shelved perfume biz The Scent Kingdom
- He works part-time at a Church

Not to mention the various communities we are a part of digitally and IRL.

Yes, some days it feels like we don't have time to breathe 😆
We work most nights, weekends, and often get morning wake-up panic texts when things go wrong. It's what we signed up for.

But we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Even the Queen 👑 gets off pace.

Lately, my growth has been slow. Engagement isn't as high.

But I'm not blaming the algorithm (all the way).
Things that are holding me back:

👉🏼 I’ve barely replied to DMs for months
👉🏼 Not doing pre-post engagement
👉🏼 Replying back to comments late
👉🏼 Not commenting at all
👉🏼 Inconsistent posting times (it's 9AM somewhere right?)
👉🏼 Not taking virtual coffee calls
👉🏼 I haven’t collab-ed in months
👉🏼 Having 1,000+ connection requests waiting
👉🏼 Not posting on a Monday or on weekends 😆

It's my fault. I should do better. I'd say I'm getting back on track, but I'm not even there (yet).

What I am changing: 
Not feeling guilty for any of it. 

I'm essentially running 2 full time marketing agencies.
And I'm about to start running a community with Amy Polly and Nicholas Jemetta.

Time is worth more than money to me 💸

Will I make the Favikon list this year? Not this rate.
Will I reach my 50K goal this year? Maybe... (Roman Pikalenko 🇺🇦🦩 buckle up boy)

But am I making sure my clients always get the best of me?
Yes, and that's priceless.

Winter blues are in full effect 🔹

I’m talking increased anxiety, depression, and being mooooody.
(Ya’ll say a prayer for my poor partner!)

Here’s what I do to combat this personally:

- Dopamine delays 
By delaying “pleasure” short term, it can lead to increased long term enjoyment. I do this by getting off my phone & delaying that urge to check on notifications. Or banning myself from TikTok for a few days. When you delay dopamine gratification you can achieve feelings of reward for longer term goals — rather than the pleasure of another 30sec vid Alix Earle putting makeup on.

- Water before coffee
You heard me. Drinking water first thing when you wake up, and also waiting an hour for the caffeine can help increase your mood and energy levels for the rest of the day. I feel more awake and less addicted. What’s not to love?

- Taking a 10 min break to reset
This puts me into Alpha brain “recovery” waves. These specific brain waves “induce feelings of calm, increase creativity, and enhance your ability to absorb new information.” When you work you use Beta brain waves which can eventually lead to burnout if we don’t recover fully.

- Buying a “SAD” lamp
I got one for Christmas and it’s life changing. From someone who used to live in TX but now resides in the UK… I need my sunlight 🌞A SAD lamp is essentially mimicking a “Sun” source with 10,000 lux LED light + it’s cheaper than a Holiday (although I need one of those soon too!) It can also help reset your circadian rhythm if it’s the first light I see in the mornings. IYKYK. 

- Buying cute winter bucket hats
‘Nuff said. Shopping always helps my mood, and staying just that much warmer helps with this always has cold hands and feet body of mine 🙆🏽‍♀️

How does someone run multiple businesses?

I had a lot of feedback from my post yesterday asking me HOW we manage 6+ businesses. (I’ve written so much this is going to be a mini-series now 😆)

Starting a business can look like this:
1. Conception (from idea —> risk check)
2. Implementation (investors, money flow —> starting)
3. Hyperfocus stage (Infrastructure, stability check, client feedback, stats)
4. Equilibrium stage (you are stable —> support team, training & delegation)
5. Enjoyment phase (pivoting for feedback, enjoy profits)
6. Sometimes scaling up or franchising (if the model works, rinse and repeat)

These stages are why I don’t recommend starting more than 1 business at the same time.

🤓 Your hyperfocus stage (normally 2-5 months, sometimes longer) is the most crucial step. Often with businesses, the set up point is the most time consuming. Too many distractions and it can all go to pot.

A key focus during this period is making sure infrastructure and long term stability are in place for success. Depending on the nature of the business, a delegation of focus or processes to a TRUSTED team can help sustain the business once it's in a steady place.

👉🏼 Get yourself an admin to help with the faffy bits.
I cannot rec Chloe Dennis enough - she always goes above/beyond.

You can’t run it alone. You can’t think of everything alone. And you need to be able to sleep at night knowing everything is in capable hands. Again this depends on what kind of a business you are setting up and running. 

Some businesses run themselves. Others need constant hand holding and response rates for panic situations. Sometimes multiple employees to make sure everything gets done and WELL.

One thing this model needs is an excellent product, idea, or service. Without that, you will never make it. Word of mouth will destroy or take you to glory.

This goes for customer service too. We’ve had to fire people because they lacked basic front facing customer skills. The product could be AMAZING, but bad reviews about workers stay on the internet forever 😬

How to be a serial entrepreneur ⚡️

This is part 6 of my mini-series on how the HECK I help run 6+ businesses with my partner Josh Carr.

You gotta *think* like an entrepreneur.

This can show up as traits:
▪️Being organized AF
▪️Always be quick to respond —> customers/clients will love you
▪️Get bored easily --> your creativity will flow
▪️There is more to life than working every sec of the day
▪️Knowing your preferred working style
▪️Being a *calculated risk* taker

First off: don’t start something that can make you bankrupt.
You gotta now your limits financially 💸

Long-term builders are more risky, but also yield a thousand times more.

BUT: You have to ask yourself the important Q’s too before saying “yes”.

Q: Starting a new business could mean that you don’t take a salary for a while. Can you afford to do that?🧐

Q: What do you deem success for that particular biz? Is that making a profit? Paying off investment? Sending you on that 6-month holiday in Greece? 🍹

Q: Do you have people around you that give you THAT vision?
If not, find people who are smarter than you.

...stay until you’re ‘that person’ too.

Part 3: How to run/succeed with multiple businesses

🧠 Keep your mind open for opportunities
👀 Spot gaps in the market
🙆🏽‍♀️ Follow your competitors/enemies closely

What are you hating right on that you can “do better” at then t h e m?

Netflix overtaking Blockbuster (RIP) are a prime example of this.
They concepted a whole new of working to put videos in the hands of customers.

I started with a 9-5 and then did extra marketing work as freelancer on the side. I saw gaps and weaknessess.

Gaps: My last agency was poor at basic humane employee treatment. Plus being fully transparent with clients, and project oversight for an excellence, results driven delivery. 

These problem areas allowed me to think “I can do this… and way better.”

This allowed me to launch: Titanium22 Digital Marketing.

I also have another agency on the way 👀
+ a community coming soooooon on the topic: toxicity in the workplace.

I launched my eBook on this very subject, because passion can be birthed from the place of trauma.

Keeping your eyes open, a notes app full of ideas, and like minded people around you, will take you places you never imagined. 

You just have to be ready and say yes. 
Say yes, and if it eventually feels wrong say no. 
At least you’ll know better, learn, and can say yes to better things later on. 

Saying no at the start will likely never take you anywhere.

When I say unboxed innovation, what comes to mind?

For me this is more than “thinking creatively.”

For me this looks more like turning ideas —> action —> reality.
Ideas without action are just thoughts with no legs to stand on.

Ideas that solve a problem, AND have legs… change the world 🌍

We’ve tried to do this at Mary Seacole Housing Association every step of the way:

💡Idea: Helping our residents through COVID isolation
👉🏼 Action: We had residents send in artwork or photographs, and found an online gallery solution to exhibit them. It was COVID safe, and more people had access because it was digital. The gallery provided an opportunity for participants to reflect positively on these moments instead.

💡Idea: Start a podcast
👉🏼 Action: Find our aim, we landed on: a Youth Voices podcast. We brought in experts to film our podcast, and had students share their voice on different subjects and upload them to YouTube. 

💡 Idea: Supporting Warm Spaces in our area
👉🏼 Action: We launched Luton Connects. This aims to connects local businesses who can provide resources to Warm Spaces. It involved the community and helps those experiencing homelessness just that much more. 

💡 Idea: Support youth with peer pressure
👉🏼 Action: We built an App called Tap Out to walk them through different scenarios. If they make good choices, they get a good outcome & vice versa. We know youth encounter enormous amounts of peer pressure. So we’ve been touring our app at our different schools to showcase that making good choices, is always worth it 👏🏼

There are countless projects that we’ve done, and will continue to do.

Our main goal is to think about MORE THAN our just charity requirements. We don’t think or act like most charities, because we put creative action behind our ideas.

It takes a whole team to make this happen but should be supported by the leadership team downwards. 

Most ideas stay in the box.
Let’s try letting them out in 2023.

I don’t have work life balance. 

What I MEAN to say is:
I've found that my best working style is never switching off between the two.

Controversial, I know.
Yet I happily fully function like that. All the time. 

Most people preach about "work life balance" but for me I don't like to work that way. “Balance” to me is doing both work & life ALWAYS. In a seamless fashion. 

What suits me best allows me to:
- Get into a good working flow
- Lets me hone in on that 2AM thought
- Brings me far more creativity
- Breaks me out of the conventional corporate box
- Always be ready for emergencies

You see I’ve learned my 👉🏼 work style.

❌ This doesn’t mean I’m unhealthy
❌ It doesn’t mean I can’t make time for the gym
❌ It doesn’t mean my family gets neglected

Understanding your work style will open a whole new way of life hacking.

It won’t look the same for everyone. Reminder to not compare yourself to anyone else and how they live. 

Find yourself and find your flow 🌊

Part 2: How I run multiple Bizs 🙆🏽‍♀️

The right partners will make everything flow or make everything 100x harder 😅

You’re only as good as the people supporting and pulling their weight. I’m lucky to have Josh Carr on my team.
He “gets it” — because entrepreneur minded (like myself).

The right cofounder will understand the late nights, the early morning, and that hungry drive to make anything succeed.
They can also help you with advice, Googling things you don’t know, and through all the blood and tears.

Having a network of people who bleed business in every aspect of their life will streamline the process. Heck that person you met on a random coffee chat could be your newest partner or angel investor 🚀

From cofounders, investors, mentors, team members, moral support, and even employees. They all pay a pivotal part to making something sustainable.

Listen to your gut on people. If it’s not working, part ways.
Or you’ll normally find out what your gut was telling you about later down the road ❌

Your main takeaway should be this: running it with TRUSTED people 💪🏼

In essence, we provide housing for:
👉🏼 those experiencing homelessness
👉🏼 those in domestic abuse situations
👉🏼 those needing shelter
👉🏼 asylum seekers
👉🏼 those with complex needs
👉🏼 single people
👉🏼 those at risk in society

 We provide training, care, and skill advancements to all of our residents. It’s a full circle cycle of support from when they first come, to when they move on. We now have over ten properties in the Luton area.

But the greatest thing we do:
Provide freedom and independence 🦅

Giving hope back into the hands of people who desperately need it. Showing them a bright future all while giving them their confidence back. 

It makes every difficult day, every late night, and every emergency
…worth it 1000X fold.

 Do you run multiple income streams?

I run/have shares in/spend time on/or support 6+ businesses with my partner. Here's part 4 of a mini-series on how.

#1 find your work style.

Are you always “on” or do you need to switch off to be okay?
Maybe you’re somewhere in between, like meh. 

Knowing yourself and how to operate can allow you to LEAN into this and find your flow. Once you are in a flow, you can find more time/strength to keep going. 

Even when ish hits the fan and everything goes wrong across all 6-10 companies at the same time. And believe me, that will happen. 

If you always operate from a place of burn out, your brain is at a reduced capacity. Ideas won’t show up. More efficient ways of working won’t be there. The list goes on.

Alpha brand waves > beta brain waves.

One thing I learned early on for me: finding time to silence the busy around me.

Me and my partner try to go to the cinema about 1x a week. 
Having just those few hours of peace away from pings and notifications in a dark room is something I crave.

#2 you can only focus growth in a few areas.
That might mean I need my business to succeed, rather than self care happening. Although I promote both, you can’t always do both. That’s on trill.

I am at the moment always “on” until I break. Yes break.
I’m life hacking 2023 to finding more ways to prevent my preferred work style from always “breaking” me. 

But I’m also learning that might just be “how it is” during this season.  Part of learning your work style is ALSO accepting that things just are a certain way.

Part 5: how the heck do I run/support 6+ businesses? 🚀

I got asked on my original post if we start businesses or if they were presented to us to help on.

The answer is yes. Having a like minded team on every level around you, both will happen.

But we only said yes, if we KNEW we were passionate about the business, or if we knew we could make it work.

This means saying yes to more time taken from your schedule ⌚️

Since I’m in a “building” phase of life, I don’t have kids.
I’m career minded and know at the moment, I can’t do both (sorry mom). I want to build FOR my future kids so this means waiting since I know I can't commit to them.

I only start a new business once the last one is settled. Go back a few parts to learn more about this topic.

After the 6 step process is met (again a few parts back!), starting more businesses gets easier.

It can almost be addicting. Like that tattoo you get on summer hols (yes I have a few of those) 🌞

Some major keys we use to scale quicker + reach equilibrium:
Trello for projects/tasks —> onboarding dream
Dropbox for all team access to files/logos
Marketing/website background

What does a new business need: A website, socials, and somebody screaming about what it does. I am a firm believer that this has helped me the MOST.

If don’t know: ask, Google, or YouTube it. 
Teach yourself to succeed and you can never lose.
