I’m Thijs Broekhuizen an Associate Professor at the Department of Innovation Management & Strategy and Scientific Director of the University of Groningen Business School. My passion lies at the intersection of strategy, innovation, and digital Transformation. I’ve dedicated my career to advancing our understanding of how firms can respond and appropriate value from their digital innovations in dynamic environments. I have had the privilege to share these insights with my students, at international conferences, and through academic research. My publications have appeared in innovation (Research Policy, Journal of Product Innovation Management), marketing (Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, International Journal of Research in Marketing), information systems (European Journal of Information Systems, Information & Management), and management (Business Horizons and Journal of Business Research) journals. Over the years, I've coordinated several European grants, exploring the role of innovation for SMEs and how regions can prosper. As the Scientific Director at the University of Groningen Business School, I've been instrumental in innovating and shaping the Executive MBA curriculum, ensuring that we are at the forefront of business education. Additionally, I've moderated workshops, served as a speaker at various conferences, and collaborated with industry experts. One of my significant achievements includes spearheading the Northern-Netherlands Innovation Monitor, an initiative aimed at capturing the innovation dynamics of SMEs in our region and promoting their innovativeness. In all my roles, my primary goal remains consistent: to bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and practical application, ensuring businesses can leverage innovative digital technologies and business models.
