I’ve always been about the people. Whether leading large facilities service operations teams, mentoring professionals, raising funds for charity, or walking zoo guests through the story of rescued animals and conservation, my best days are when I get to serve, connect, and lift others up.

Happy Thanksgiving from Costa Rica! Yesterday, we toured Manuel Antonio National Park. Afterwards, our guide and two ladies we met from Holland on our tour joined for lunch. 

We had a wonderful discussion about all the beautiful animals we saw including sloths, toucans, stick birds, snakes and more. We gave thanks for living in safe countries and the opportunities travel affords us. 

I secretly picked up the tab and explained that today was Thanksgiving in the US and that I was grateful for their company and enjoyment for the day.

🧗 Wild day yesterday, we went canyoning deep in the jungle. This was very physical for the hiking/rappelling and mentally challenging to learn the process. We did a series of smaller falls, learning the basics that led to this 230+ ft. waterfall. 

Maki and I were the two oldest of the group which included 4 European professional soccer players, 4 young ladies from Germany and 3 young folks from Canada.

Several people decided they did not want to attempt the last big fall but not Maki. Even though she is afraid of heights and not adept in the water she wanted to try. 

The guide pulled me aside and said he was worried about Maki doing this section. We agreed, I would go first and see if this is something Maki should attempt. I was told decent rappeler can do it in 3-4 minutes. 

I made the descent down; it was incredibly challenging with the water force and slippery rocks. I smashed my leg on one section but made it down in 3.5 minutes. I asked them to radio up and not let Maki go. 

I then looked up, and Maki made the launch, I was quite upset and worried. The guide looked at me and said, "I radioed up". Maki weaved her way down and fought the whole way through and successfully completed it with a smile on her face all the while shaking like a leaf. 

I was so proud, she really was the MVP of the day! Today, we are stiff, sore, bruised up but proud that we literally leaped out of our comfort zones.

I have over 170 of these, but I’ve never shared one publicly, and I’ve been trying to figure out why.

After every speaking engagement, I ask the client who booked me to write a review or recommendation on LinkedIn.

Over the years, dozens of clients have been generous in their willingness to do that.

They’ve taken time to be specific about the impact I had, what made me stand out as a speaker, and what they valued about working with me.

And yet I’ve been hesitant to share what they’ve said publicly because I don’t want to look arrogant or like I’m bragging.

Have you ever felt that way or had that fear?

As I’ve been learning more from Darren McKee recently, I do the people who could benefit from what I do a disservice when I don’t share things like this.

Cherie first heard me speak almost three years ago at a women’s conference and was determined to bring me to her company to speak at their leadership summit.

This year, we made that happen two months ago in Charlotte.

It was one of my favorite events of the year.

Just last week, I was messaging one of the VPs who was there about whether the positive ripples from my keynote have continued, and he said:

“They have! Our team was just revisiting some of our key takeaways last week. We enjoyed our time with you.”

And then, this week, I got this testimonial from the person who brought me in to speak.

I love what I do, and words like the ones below mean to much to me.

I invest a lot of time and energy into every presentation to make a meaningful difference and transform the lives of the people in the room.

So, here’s how I’m challenging myself to think about this differently:

If the service you provide positively impacts the people you serve, why wouldn’t you want more people to know about it?

Why do you mute yourself instead of sharing what past clients have said about how great you are?

If what you do solves a problem, meets a need, makes money, saves money, or somehow makes the world around you and the people in it better, you owe it to us to get unmuted about it.

To share those successes so the people who can benefit from what you do can find you.

This single tree is home to over 500 species—a reminder of how interconnected life truly is. Nature thrives through collaboration. Imagine if we led the same way.

We saw exotic birds including Quetzals, Motmots, 20 different hummingbirds including the very rare green fronted lancebill! Walking sticks, viper snakes - just incredible! 

Protecting places like Monteverde isn’t just about saving species—it’s about safeguarding the systems that sustain us all.

🚗 I really appreicate a pro's pro. This morning my Uber driving was 5 minutes early and ready to go. He jumped out, got my bags and confirmed my airport destination. 

🗣️ We had a nice conversation and then prior to arriving at the airport he made sure I had my Real ID, boarding passes and confirmed I wasn't checking luggage. He took me right to the security gate. 

These of course are the "little" things. I let him know how much I appreciate that he was a "pro's pro" and tipped accordingly.

🌍 Travel Is Still the Greatest Teacher! 

🐦‍🔥 Glad to be safely back in the saddle after incredible journeys through Costa Rica and Panama. Each trip reminds me that the world is a classroom—if we’re willing to learn.

🐦 Costa Rica’s Biodiversity - home to over 500,000 species, Costa Rica is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. From lush rainforests to cloud forests, it’s a living laboratory of evolution. The Resplendent Quetzal, pictured below, isn’t just stunning—it symbolizes freedom, beauty, and the divine in Mesoamerican cultures. Seeing one in its natural habitat is a humbling reminder of nature’s resilience (we got to see both the male and female)!

🌉 Panama: A Land Bridge & An Engineering Marvel Panama’s unique geography once connected North and South America, allowing species to migrate and ecosystems to flourish. Fast forward to the 20th century, and this same strip of land became the site of one of humanity’s greatest engineering feats—the Panama Canal. To be on a ship in the locks was surreal! 

Built amid immense challenges and sacrifice, the canal reshaped global trade.
Today, a single container ship pays $1 million to transit (12 hours), saving 21+ days and up to $39 million compared to rounding Cape Horn.

Lesson Learned: Whether it’s biodiversity or human ingenuity, travel teaches us that progress and preservation must coexist. Every journey is an opportunity to understand the delicate balance between nature and innovation.

I love that Costa Rica has embraced eco-tourism, and Panama recognizes the amazing role it plays in biodiversity too!
