As the Regional Director of Sales & Business Development at Celltick Technologies Ltd, I played a crucial role in managing the end-to-end sales process and collaborating with cross-functional teams. My responsibilities included:

- Oversaw the entire sales cycle, from prospecting and lead generation to contract negotiations and deal closure, ensuring the acquisition of new customers.

- Recognized and awarded as the Best Sales Team, showcasing the collective effort and achievement of the team.
- Project-managed multiple customers across Malaysia, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, ensuring smooth implementation and satisfaction of their requirements.
- Spearheaded Sales & Business Development activities, targeting customers in the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand to expand Motricity's market presence.

- Identified sales opportunities and presented Acision's suite of services to Singapore mobile operators.
- Managed the entire sales cycle, from prospecting and lead generation to contract negotiations and deal closure.

I won the Best Sales Person awards for 2008 (160%) and 2009 (120%), acknowledging my exceptional achievements especially during the downturn. I managed the Malaysian mobile operators as part of my accounts management role after my promotion.

Kyocera Communications

Kyocera Communications Asia Pacific focuses on mobile entertainment and has both B2B (mobile operators) and B2C (direct to consumers) operations. The MD tasked me with leading the transformation of the struggling business because of my excellent track record in the digital contents industry.

- Evaluated sales numbers and devised strategies to drive growth.
- Managed the sales and marketing team in Thailand and providing guidance and support to maximize their performance.
- Revised partner engagement plans to strengthen relationships and enhance collaboration.
- Revised the overall strategy to align with market trends and drive the company's growth.

While the efforts resulted in an improvement in sales numbers, the company ultimately decided to close down the business division. However, the Kyocera management principles that I learned during my time with the organization have proven invaluable throughout my career. These principles emphasize respect for all individuals, a focus on continuous improvement, and a commitment to social responsibility. They have influenced my approach to leadership and decision-making, and I continue to hold them in high regard.

Starcut was a mobile media company (invested by Nokia) that focused on designing, developing, and maintaining mobile and web services. Reporting to the GM, my role as the Regional Business Development Manager at Starcut encompassed:

- Spearheaded business development initiatives in the APAC region with the aim of expanding the company's presence and generating new opportunities in the digital contents industry
- Represented Starcut at prominent industry events, conferences, and trade shows to showcase our capabilities and explore potential partnerships.

During my tenure, I led the change management efforts, driving the business transformation away from the Nokia Fun Club and towards new product development and the diversification of revenue streams. The initiative had a growth of 70% YoY. Notably, I played a crucial role in securing a SaaS deal with CNBC Asia, which served as a significant achievement for Starcut, solidifying our position as a leading mobile media company in the APAC market.

Living in Nansha Guangzhou feels like being on the cutting edge of technology. I recently wrote about my experience with the 160kmph high speed MRT. Today, I am going to share my experience with the unmanned taxi service! These self-driving cars are a game-changer for getting around the city.

Need a ride? Just whip out the Pony.ai app and book an unmanned ride. Within minutes, a sleek, driverless car pulls up to your location. You scan the QR code on the window, open the door, and slide into the backseat. On the screen behind the front seat, you enter your phone's last four digits, buckle up, and the vehicle automatically sets off.
 
The ride is smooth and quiet, thanks to the car's advanced sensors and cameras that keep it safe in even the busiest traffic. Now, about the cost. It's not exactly dirt cheap. There's a 12 RMB flag down rate (USD1.66), and after the first 3 kilometers, it's 2.6 RMB per kilometer. It's comparable to regular taxis, maybe a touch more expensive.
 
The technology still being new, I expect the prices to come down as it becomes more mainstream. Nansha's unmanned taxis are a glimpse into the future of transportation. They're not only convenient and exciting, but they also contribute to a cleaner and more efficient city. It's pretty awesome to be a part of this technological revolution happening right here in my own neighborhood!

It can definitely feel lonely or isolating when people seem to disappear when you're going through a tough time, but reappear when things are going well for you. Here's a gentle reminder that you that you're not alone:

▶ 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞. These are the people who will be there for you during the good times and the bad ones. 

Do not waste your time on people who do not value you. Focus on the positive and surround yourself with people who make you feel good. And remember, you are strong and capable of achieving anything you set your mind to!

As someone who cultivates client and partner relationships, business lunches and dinners are a frequent part of my day. Here in China, the sheer variety of culinary experiences is mind-boggling – from fiery Hunan dishes to sizzling Sichuan hotpots, and to international cuisines like Thai, Japanese and others. However, when it comes to business meetings, dim sum remains my secret weapon. 
 
Dim sum's small plates are ideal for sharing. Forget the awkward maneuvering of cutlery – chopsticks (or a fork) are all you need!

Unlike a formal, multi-course meal, dim sum offers a relaxed and efficient format. Order dishes at your own pace, ensuring enough time for both delicious exploration and business discussions.

Most people will have no issues with the well-balanced flavors of dim sum unlike the potentially spicy nature of hotpot.

On top of that, being here in Guangdong, dim sum is  cornerstone of Guangdong culture. My meals especially with foreign guests will always involve dim Sum. It’s a great way to  build rapport and fosters trust, laying the groundwork for a successful business relationship.

Going to meetings used to be a nightmare – that is, until I discovered Line 18. As many of you know, I live in Nansha, the southernmost district of Guangzhou. Commuting to the office or other areas typically took a grueling 2 - 2.5 hours each way. Spending 5 hours commuting was simply unbearable. Thankfully, Line 18 has revolutionized my commute.

The Guangzhou Metro Line 18 is a game-changer in the city's vast subway network. Renowned for its exceptional speed and convenience, this state-of-the-art line boasts cutting-edge technology and infrastructure designed to drastically reduce travel times. At a blazing 160 kilometers per hour, it's one of the fastest, if not the absolute fastest, metro lines in the world.

Thanks to Line 18, my travel time to the city has been slashed to a manageable 1 hour and 20 minutes. But speed and efficiency aren't all this line has to offer. It also boasts several unique features that elevate the passenger experience:

I am sure we encounter many of such stories day in day out. This story kept me thinking: What's being human or the right thing to do?

Bargaining, in my opinion, is acceptable as long as it's done respectfully, especially when dealing with small businesses. These businesses are the lifeblood of our communities! A little kindness can go a long way. The extra you're willing to spend might just put food on someone's table.

This situation highlights a common issue faced by many entrepreneurs, especially those just starting out. They may need to offer competitive pricing despite lower profit margins. Cash flow is a big concern, and sometimes business owners resort to lower profits just to get some money coming in quickly.

A woman, in a desperate bid to beat the traffic, decided to ditch the usual commute and hop on a rather unconventional vehicle - 𝘏𝘌𝘙 𝘌𝘓𝘌𝘊𝘛𝘙𝘐𝘊 𝘚𝘜𝘐𝘛𝘊𝘈𝘚𝘌!!

She zipped down a busy street on her motorized luggage, but her shortcut was cut short by none other than the traffic police. The officers pulled her over, and the woman, determined to defend her unique mode of transport, argued that her electric suitcase was a legal ride. She even asked the police to fetch her to work every day if they weren't going to let her ride it!

Safety and common sense proved to be the ultimate buzzkill. Electric suitcases are neither classified as regular vehicles nor even bicycles. The police politely reminded the woman that these quirky suitcases are best suited for indoor use or private roads.

She ended up getting a 50 RMB fine for her electric escapade, but hey, at least she provided some serious entertainment for onlookers! Maybe next time, she'll stick to the bus - or perhaps invest in a helmet for her next electric suitcase adventure!

Last week, I had the privilege of visiting the picturesque campus of Guangzhou College of Commerce (广州商学院) together with representatives of Southern Institute of Technology. The principal and dean of the college extended the utmost hospitality. We were given a comprehensive tour of the campus, showcasing its state-of-the-art facilities, They had gone to great lengths to ensure our comfort and enjoyment, arranging for a series of engaging activities and presentations tailored to answer our queries. 
 
My visit to Guangzhou College of Commerce was an unforgettable experience. I look forward to working closer together with GCC and SIT in our student exchange program.

The Wheelies is an electric unicycle club founded and formed together with three other friends in 2013. Original idea was to build a community with like minded enthusiasts before the overwhelming interest with our work prompted us to scale it up into a business. We became a breeding ground for electric unicycle enthusiasts, growing into the world's largest EUC community at one time with 5000 + members. We were also Singapore's largest online electric unicycle store, with distribution partners like Falcon Mobility and Best Denki. 

Our work culminated in unforgettable experiences like performing for a 30,000-strong audience at Chingay for 5 years in a row and also showcasing our skills on Orchard Road at the city's prime shopping district, during the Shine Festival in 2016.

As we were a part time commercial outfit, we relied a lot on social selling. Social selling wasn't just about posting ads; it was about fostering a vibrant online community. We leveraged platforms like Facebook and Instagram to connect with potential customers, share informative content about EUCs, and showcase the EUC lifestyle through user-generated content and exciting events. Eventually, people started organizing their own activities and started tagging us in all their social post. This fostered trust and a sense of belonging, turning followers into passionate brand advocates who spread the word organically. My marketing budget for a million dollar business was $200. Not bad for a group of "part-timers"

While changing regulations in Singapore forced us to close our doors in 2019, the experience left an indelible mark. It instilled in me the power of fostering connections and the importance of building a brand that resonates with its audience.

Hope you had a great weekend. I promised myself no work over the weekends and has been spending time during the weekend to catch up some epic historical drama "𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘒𝘩𝘢𝘯". While watching, I was fired up by a quote from Genghis Khan. He said: "𝘞𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘸𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳." It kinda of make sense  especially with all the disruption AI is bringing. It's a good reminder to be adaptable and resilient in the face of change.

Life is rarely a smooth ride. We all hit bumps, face storms, and sometimes get caught in downpours. Genghis Khan was almost exterminated by his own clan when his father passed away. He faced a difficult childhood marked by poverty ,struggle and even assassination attempts on him to kill him before he become a threat but he built his resiliency growing up. But here is the thing: those tough experiences, those negative moments – they are not there to break him (us). They are there to toughen our wings so we can navigate any difficult situation.

Every challenge, we learn, we adapt, and we build the inner fortitude to tackle whatever comes next. Those tough times become the feathers that give our wings the power to soar, even in the fiercest winds.

let's be honest my friends. I'm a "𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳". In the beginning of the year, I wanted to write a post about the power of early sales planning and share some insights how we go about creating pipelines and sales plan to go after multi-million deals and ultimately hit your targets but guess what? Somehow or rather, I "managed" to put it off and it fell by the wayside. The image of that post came to my mind yesterday when everyone here on LinkedIn started “celebrating” the second half of the year.

Here's the thing: while I may not have been the poster child for early "writing" , but I HAVE learned some valuable lessons from my sales career how to "recover" from the scenario and I believe it can help sales people out here. Here's what you can do if you are still not close to hitting your numbers in Q3:

⏩ 𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐠𝐮𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐧𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐫: Ramp up lead generation by targeting the right audience. Define your Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) and identify new prospecting channels that align 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐥𝐲 with your ICP. This focused approach helps connect with more qualified leads, faster, increasing the chances of converting them into sales this year.

⏩ 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞: Procrastination is a common enemy for salespeople. To combat this, create a daily and weekly schedule that blocks out specific time for prospecting calls, following up with leads, and crafting compelling proposals. 

⏩ 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐲: Intuition is valuable, but data is king in sales. Successful salespeople leverage CRM data to identify sales trends, conversion rates, and potential roadblocks. This data helps tailor sales pitches to better resonate with the target audience and identify areas for improvement in the overall sales strategy.

Look, while planning ahead is ideal, it's never too late to take action. Q3 presents both opportunities and challenges for sales teams. With the right mindset, support, and a proactive approach, teams can navigate setbacks, identify untapped potential, and emerge stronger in Q3. I would encourage sales leaders to actively build strong relationships with key customers, partners, and stakeholders, not just when your numbers are short.

I've been using this quote on #LinkedIn frequently because it's something I truly believe in and actively practice. I truly believe our world can be a better place if more people subscribed to this belief.

Recently, this belief was brought to life at a karaoke pub owned by my neighbor. While playing with the instruments, a woman hesitantly approached me. She loved the unplugged vibe and yearned to sing on stage, but worried her voice might scare away the audience.

Sensing her nervousness, I encouraged her to believe in herself and take the challenge. The music filled the air as she belted out two songs, her initial anxiety melting away. She started to truly enjoy the moment, embracing the experience.

After her set, she approached me with a radiant smile. My encouragement, she said, had helped her fulfill a lifelong dream of singing on stage. She confessed to having stage fright, but a voice inside her insisted that today was the day. She was so grateful for the opportunity to perform in front of loved ones.

Witnessing her pure joy filled me with warmth. Sometimes, even the smallest acts of kindness can have a profound impact. So, let's go out there, spread kindness, and watch the world around us shine a little brighter!

Smartphones are like an extension of ourselves these days, and manufacturers like Xiaomi are in a constant race to make them better, faster, and more affordable. They recently launched "𝘟𝘪𝘢𝘰𝘮𝘪 𝘋𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝘍𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺". It operates 24/7 entirely under computer control, with robots on the production line instead of workers. Xiaomi claims that this smart factory can produce 1 million high-end smartphones annually and even has the potential to produce one phone per second. 

Is this going to be the benchmark of factories in the future? I see unmanned factories offer several advantages

𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝 : These factories can operate 24/7, churning out phones at breakneck speed. This translates to potentially lower prices for consumers.

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧: Robots excel at repetitive tasks, minimizing human error and ensuring consistent, high-quality phones.

𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞: Unmanned factories can quickly adjust production based on market trends, ensuring phones have the features you crave.

𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲: Robots don't get tired or injured, making unmanned factories inherently safer workplaces.

Foxconn on the other hand, represents a different approach. They are one of the world's largest electronics contract manufacturers, providing production services for smartphone and electronic device components for renowned brands like Apple, Huawei, and Xiaomi. While actively promoting automation and intelligent transformation, Foxconn still employs over a million workers across the globe, relying on human skill and experience. Foxconn's strengths lie in their massive workforce allows for mass production and standardized processes, potentially lowering production costs.

While I appreciate the consistency and efficiency of unmanned factories, I believe human ingenuity remains crucial. Foxconn's vast experience allows them to experiment with new designs and features, pushing the boundaries of smartphone technology.

A woman, in a desperate bid to beat the traffic, decided to ditch the usual commute and hop on a rather unconventional vehicle - 𝘏𝘌𝘙 𝘌𝘓𝘌𝘊𝘛𝘙𝘐𝘊 𝘚𝘜𝘐𝘛𝘊𝘈𝘚𝘌!!

She zipped down a busy street on her motorized luggage, but her shortcut was cut short by none other than the traffic police. The officers pulled her over, and the woman, determined to defend her unique mode of transport, argued that her electric suitcase was a legal ride. She even asked the police to fetch her to work every day if they weren't going to let her ride it!

Safety and common sense proved to be the ultimate buzzkill. Electric suitcases are neither classified as regular vehicles nor even bicycles. The police politely reminded the woman that these quirky suitcases are best suited for indoor use or private roads.

She ended up getting a 50 RMB fine for her electric escapade, but hey, at least she provided some serious entertainment for onlookers! Maybe next time, she'll stick to the bus - or perhaps invest in a helmet for her next electric suitcase adventure!
