Dr. Thomas I Hayes is a retired international public health specialist. He currently lives in St Petersburg, Florida and chairs a private consulting group in International Healthcare and writes and speaks on key issues. He is a graduate of Brooklyn Preparatory and Fordham University. He completed an internship and residency in clinical pharmacy and was licensed as a Doctor of Pharmacy in Tennessee. He attended graduate school in Public Health at UCLA and has managed major hospitals including the American Hospital of Paris and the Cromwell Hospital in London. Dr Hayes served as Director of Professional Relations for Hospital Affiliates International. He has worked on Public Health assignments in Indonesia, Jordan and Egypt, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Francophone West Africa, Gulf States, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya, Burkina Faso and the UK. He also served as a medical volunteer during the Ethiopia famine and in in Albanian refugee camps during the Kosovo crisis. Dr Hayes continued his in-conflict work in Iraq with the UN as Team Leader for their Refugee Project. He has managed projects funded by World Bank, AfDB, WHO, USAID, KFW/GTZ, and the Framework Programme of the European Community. Projects include developing a series of Rural Health initiatives; studying bio-medical equipment resources at the district level and presenting proposals to encourage employment in hospitals. He served as Team Leader of a multi-national working party for a European Union / World Bank project targeting the HIV/AIDS/TB epidemic in Swaziland. He was Program Manager for an EC funded project to report on progress in development and testing of vaccines for malaria in Tanzania, Zambia, Uganda and Burkina Faso He is married to Marjorie Hansen a senior consultant in Healthcare Human Resources.
