I was co-founder and CEO of the company, with offices in Cologne (Germany), and Boston (USA). Grew the company to ~300 people and in 2009 took it public on the German stock exchange. To this day, Sedo.com is the leading global marketplace for buying and selling domain names and websites.

I have founded and lead a few companies, including Sedo.com, Eyeo.com (makers of AdBlock) and, most recently, our saas.group. I also enjoy investing into start ups and mentoring the next generation of founders, especially climate tech founders, where together with Ecosia.org we're building WorldFund.vc 🌳🌍

Sonntag ist OB-Stichwahl in Köln. Ich werde Grün wählen, denn der Gedanke, dass wir in Köln die erste Millionenstadt mit grüner Oberbürgermeisterin wären, läßt mein💚hüpfen. 

Und als gebürtiger Freiburger weiß ich aus erster Hand, wie lebenswert, nachhaltig und auch wirtschaftlich erfolgreich grün regierte Städte sind. Von 2002 bis 2018 regierte der grüne Oberbürgermeister Dieter Salomon, und der parteilose 'Neue' Martin Horn setzt seitdem weiter ähnliche Schwerpunkte (Klimaneutralität, Stadtentwicklung, Bürgerdialog) wie die grüne Politik. 

Freiburg ist nicht ohne Grund als bundesweites Vorbild für nachhaltige und sehr lebenswerte Stadtentwicklung, Bürgerbeteiligung und zukunftsorientierte Umweltpolitik bekannt. 

Wie beim Fußball übrigens auch, wo der SC Freiburg ein Spiegelbild dieser Philosophie ist... auch wenn ich - aber auch nur beim Fußball! - das Kölner Drama mindestens genauso mag! 

Ich bin wirklich dankbar dafür, im grünen Freiburg aufgewachsen zu sein (und arbeite daran - mit Ecosia und World Fund - diesen Gedanken in der Tech-Branche weiterzutragen).

In diesem Sinne: lasst uns Berîvan Aymaz zur ersten grünen OB einer deutschen Millionenstadt machen!💚

P.S.: Den Internationalen Tag gegen Lebensmittelverschwendung am 29. September gibt es seit 2020, und er soll jedes Jahr auf die Verschwendung von Lebensmitteln aufmerksam machen. Weltweit landen jährlich ein Drittel aller Lebensmittel im Müll, in Deutschland sind es 18 Millionen Tonnen pro Jahr. Der durch die United Nations (UNO) ausgerufene Tag geht auf eine gemeinsame Anregung des argentinischen Agrarministeriums und des Thünen Institute während eines internationalen Expertentreffens im Zuge der G20-Präsidentschaft von Argentinien zurück.

"We only invest into climate tech that you can sell to climate change deniers."

This is always what I say if I have to explain our investment thesis at World Fund in one crisp sentence.

It's not as controversial as it sounds at first.

It just means: economical and ecological incentives are aligned. And even people who ignore climate science will buy the tech because it's profitable.

We're seeing countless examples in our World Fund portfolio:

- Real estate companies love aedifion because it saves >20% of energy costs and makes buildings more valuable (and yes, also saves 20% co2)

- Supermarkets love Freshflow, because they will reduce food waste by 25% and increase revenues by 3% (and yes, also save 25% co2)

- Shoppers love Faircado, because buying used products saves them up to 80% (and yes, also eliminates over 80% co2 compared to buying new)

The list goes on and on.

And today, I found this wonderful Boston Consulting Group (BCG) graph that looked at this systematically (btw, thanks Jan Rosenow for posting it, I'm a big fan of your work!)

What it shows:

Clean energy investment isn’t slowing despite what clowns govern parts of the world. For a simple reason: it makes economic sense! 55% of low-carbon technologies are already cost competitive in most situations (or will be soon), and another 10% are only marginally more expensive. 

Also, from 2016 to 2024, companies pursuing green growth achieved higher revenue valuations, according to this new Boston Consulting Group (BCG) analysis. Smart capital allocators continue to move into climate tech, which also has addition positive resilience and security effects on energy, food and raw materials. The long-term winners will be those who build or back scalable solutions across energy, materials, industrials, and the infrastructure that underpins them. Now more than ever.

I still remember our excitement at Ecosia when we got to interview Jane Goodall 7 years ago. She was an outstanding individual and a great advocate for nature and animal conservation, and will remain a role model forever.💚 🙏🏼
