𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐁𝐄𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫! Healthcare is a team sport, but we have failed to teach members of the team the knowledge and skills needed to be high performing team members or leaders. As an 𝐀𝐃𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐎𝐑 (supervisor, manager, director) do you want to ❓ retain your employees and improve employee well-being? ❓ spend less time putting out fires addressing poor teamwork or communication? ❓ create more independent functioning teams? ❓ have more time to innovate and build relationships? As a 𝐏𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐓 have you ever been ❓frustrated because your care or health was comprised by poor communication or poor coordinated care? ❓asked the same question repeatedly by members of your healthcare team and wondered if they have ever talked to one another or read your chart? ❓unclear whose job it was to deal with a specific medical question or concern? ❓confused because your health team gave you conflicting information or advice? As a 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐓𝐇 PROVIDER/𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐅𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋, have you ever felt ❓ uncomfortable because other providers/professionals on your team did not get along? ❓ dismissed or unheard because of your health professional role? ❓ that your team members did not understand your scope of practice? For the past 13 years, I have educated future health professionals about how to work on teams through interprofessional education. When we work interprofessionally, it is our responsibility to 1️⃣ empower and have the patient/client be the leader of their health team 2️⃣ be interdependent (what I do impacts you and what you do impacts me) 3️⃣ embed the evidence-based science of teamwork and communication into our practice I am an expert who teaches and guides members of the health 𝐓𝐄𝐀𝐌 to improve the quality of care they receive (patient/client) or provide (health professional) through an interprofessional approach.
