Senior Business Development Director - Travel and Tourism

I was the senior member of the ADARA sales team based in the office in London.  I represented and managed a wide variety of ADARA's business relationships across direct clients and agency groups in a portfolio worth over $3m to the business.  My role was to explain and champion ADARA's solutions across managed media, data delivery, analytics and SaaS products.  A keen hunter of new business, I won numerous new clients for ADARA including airlines, hotel brands, tourism boards, retailers, financial services and luxury brands.   I have consistently hit sales targets throughout my tenure and in 2019 won the fastest salesperson to goal across the whole company.  Most recently I have been at the forefront of ADARA's pivot into identity-based data and the new opportunities for advertisers associated with that change.

I represented ADARA on stage at industry events, panel discussions and interviews, speaking on a wide variety of subjects within the travel and programmatic space.  I mentored co-workers on my team and outside and enjoyed that process.  I've also assumed responsibility for reporting up to VP level when required.

Sales Director UK, Ireland and Netherlands

Expedia, Inc.

After a promotion internally from my previous role within Expedia, I managed a team of five sellers representing Expedia to clients and agencies in the UK, Europe and Australia.  The role involves much of what is described below in addition to managing a team's revenue line which was worth $7m in total in the last year of my tenure.

This role gave me the opportunity to become more involved with strategy setting for the business and helping an e-commerce platform respond to the developments within the digital media industry.  These included mobile, custom partnerships and programmatic managed media.  

This role also gave me the opportunity to gain experience in remote management with a direct report based in Sydney and to help shape and execute strategy in that region.  I also took on responsibility of implementing a programmatic ad strategy for EMEA and worked with a selection of SSP (supply side partner) suppliers and agency trading desks to set up Expedia's presence in this area.

Over the course of my time in at Expedia, myself and the team won significant business from multiple travel brands as well as significant investment from non-travel brands such as Westfield, Bacardi, Molson Coors, Visa, American Express and Three Mobile.

Sales Director - EMEA

I was responsible for day to day management and development of the UK agency sales team.  At the time it was a newly formed team within Expedia tasked with building up revenue from UK media agencies and non-travel brands.

Within two years I managed a team that were consistently hitting their sales targets for the year, established trading relationships with all of the top UK media agencies and had grown the agency business by over 50%.

The role involved:

Defining and leading the execution of strategy for specified market geography and segments to grow the Expedia Media Solutions business.

Identifying key brands in the travel and non-travel sectors and sell the benefits of partnering with Expedia, including representing the advertising strategy of the partner in order to develop campaigns that meet their needs

Successful navigation amongst multiple groups at a senior level within Expedia, including distribution, ecommerce, and marketing. 

Focus on providing agencies and customers with a consultative sales experience both for client direct advertisers and West End and regional media agencies.

Head of Media Solutions - UK

ESPN

I was responsible for selling advertising and sponsorship across ESPN’s digital, TV and mobile portfolio to clients based in the UK targeting UK consumers, as well as advertisers targeting non-UK/pan-regional audiences.

Sales were focussed around negotiation and sale of standard digital inventory, rich media, pre roll and sponsorship opportunities across ESPN's portfolio in the UK .

Within the role I managed a large West End agency portfolio (both on and offline) with excellent contacts at all levels in all the agencies I represented.  They include ZenithOptimedia (as was), Starcom MediaVest, Walker Media, Havas Media, Arena Media, LBi, Profero and Essence Digital.

The role involved reaching and exceeding monthly and quarterly sales targets as well as accurate forecasting with reports to senior management.

There was also the expectation to extend revenue by producing and securing cross platform opportunities including TV and mobile.

I was involved in the negotiation and execution of several six figure campaigns from clients such as Proctor & Gamble, Betfair, Emirates Airline, O2, Capital One and RBS. 

As Senior Sales level I was also responsible for certain elements of team management including group forecasting sessions, sales day, mentoring and co-ordination of client entertainment amongst the team,

The Spectator

At The Spectator I was responsible for all commercial activity across the Spectator site post-launch.

This included managed display advertising, affiliate partnerships, other commercial partnerships, sponsorship and email CRM campaigns.

Leading the challenge of taking the website’s commercial operations in-house for the first time, it was my responsibility to build up the brand in the eyes of digital marketers, media agencies and other potential revenue opportunities to increase the profitability of the Spectator site.
	
During my time I increased the digital revenue by over 60% YoY, making the site profitable for the first time.  This was achieved via a range of creative advertising opportunities utilising the Spectator site's high net worth audience and premium content.  I quickly became the central liaison point for the site for all internal departments including editorial, marketing and events as well as our CMS technology providers.
	
The role included full responsibility for forecasting and budgeting for the site to board level, as well as the implementation and execution of all ad serving and trafficking.  I was at the forefront of other digital projects within the organisation including the development and launch of mobile applications of the site and distribution through Amazon Kindle.

Responsible for The Guardian’s full courses portfolio, this varied role’s main responsibility involved face to face contact with new and existing courses advertising clients to upsell, negotiate contracts and present new and existing products, as well as finding creative solutions for clients to maximise their advertising spend.
	
My role also involves strong aspects of organisation and co ordination across other departments within GNL.   I have the responsibility of being the main departmental representative for the production of the postgraduate supplements, features as well as The Guardian’s full Clearing offering, this alone being worth over £230k to the company

Attendance of relevant conferences and events to the sector, as a representative of The Guardian, and networking amongst relevant delegates.

Over 20 years of experience enabling sales teams to develop and overachieve their goals.

During this time I have spent time working across a variety of different media channels including print, broadcast and digital.  Most recently I have been working for a global data and technology company within the travel sector in a role that focusses on selling ad tech software solutions using in-market travel data.  

Over the course of my career, I have specialised in winning new business, defining and executing strategy, managing successful sales teams and problem-solving difficult clients.  I have performed to the highest level in a sales capacity for all of the organisations I have worked for, working on award-winning campaigns and obtaining formal personal recognition along the way.
