After seven months of joining the Ocean team in January 2012 on their graduate scheme I was offered a full time role as Development Executive.
My ultimate task is to source new iconic, landmark digital advertising screens and temporary banners wraps across the UK and now Europe. Working closely with private and corporate landlords, city councils and local authorities I have built an extensive list of contacts. My day to day job is multi-disciplinary, although an understanding of the geography, competition and planning challenges within all of Oceans target cities is key. 
After identifying sites that fulfil Ocean product criteria I then work closely with a variety of landlords to agree the rent, rental structure and term to suite both parties. Planning is the main challenge and our approach can change from each council and local authority – each site is treated on an individual and bespoke basis. 
I was honoured to attend MIPIM in 2013 and 2014 with Ocean Outdoor, this was a great privilege and a fantastic opportunity to network with some key figures within the property, planning and advertising world.
Although my role is within Development over the past year I have built an all-round understanding of the Advertising Market – attending numerous courses including the industry renowned 4 day 'Media Business Course' led by the Advertising Association, Outdoor Media Centre training course and numerous lectures.  This has been invaluable as it essential when presenting to surveyors / landlords who don’t have a full understanding of the industry.

During this time I worked within the Investment, Retail and Commercial agency teams at Montagu Evans. My duties were varied; on the agency side I was required to liaise with clients to guide them round office space or industrial units, attending site inspections as well as reporting on all aspects of due diligence for potential purchases or lettings. Working in the Investment team I participated in meetings, prepared market reports by using property search engines such as Focus and EGi to analyse supply, availability and take up.  I was required to call other surveying companies to ascertain property details in order to update comparable information, many of which were cold calls. I also worked in the retail team where I was required to find suitable units for our clients this has consisted of using GOAD maps, calling local agents and using a certain degree of common sense to locate optimal locations. Montagu Evans has provided me with invaluable experience as I now have a much greater understanding of commercial surveying.  I also gained some good London contacts throughout the process.
