Healthcare Startup

Managed up to ten individuals with responsibility over financial reporting for the company’s largest segment and the cash, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and IT labor capitalization functions for the company overall.  

Re-established monthly reporting of a cash flow statement to provide additional insight to management, an item temporarily discontinued while reporting as a consolidated subsidiary of a public parent company.

Prepared detailed analysis as requested by company management and potential investors in support of the sale of majority stake to a private equity firm in 2018.

Created the company’s financial statement package to support credit agreement compliance post-sale.

Nissan Motor Corporation

Assisted in the preparation of consolidated financial statements for Nissan North America, Inc., Nissan Canada, Inc., and Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation to support various debt placements.

Prepared the derivative footnote for all financial statements compiled by the External Reporting Group, working closely with accounting teams across the organization to ensure accuracy of recorded data. 

Improved the consolidation process by creating a centralized document to track progress towards completion of the financial statements, ensuring responsibility and timing for each task was defined.

Consolidated Financial Reporting

Oversaw one manager on the Technical Accounting team, who assisted with my responsibility over US GAAP accounting areas such as acquisitions, dispositions, leases, consolidation of entities, expense capitalization, segment reporting, share based payment, compensation, foreign currency, software, derivatives, cash flow presentation, and debt.

Communicated frequently with Ernst & Young audit team, from initial discussions of an issue through preparation of white papers to document Aon’s final accounting positions on non-routine transactions. 

Leveraged relationships with colleagues in M&A, Treasury, Tax, Legal, Corporate Real Estate, Human Resources, FP&A, Consolidations, Local and External Reporting teams to ensure acquisitions, dispositions, tax step plans, and other non-routine transactions were properly reflected in Aon’s financial statements.

Created an account search tool to make key information regarding the use of accounts in Aon’s general ledger easily accessible to stakeholders throughout the organization.  

Provided recommendations to Aon’s Deputy Global Controller and other executives related to complex accounting topics in an easy to understand and efficient presentation.

Manager - Technical Accounting

Prepared consolidated financial statements for the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region from submissions from approximately 100 entities in the region, assessing the submissions for accuracy, conformity with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and conformity with Aon accounting policies.

Managed a team of two individuals, one of which was a seat dedicated to recent college graduates on nine-month rotations as part of Aon’s Finance Leadership Program.

Identified opportunities for process improvement, including gaining efficiencies in training by documenting desk procedures and driving quality of information by creating tools to validate accuracy of financials.

Created a scorecard process to communicate feedback on reporting submissions from each country in EMEA to key members of Aon management for use in follow up discussions with country controllers.

Led a review of internal controls performed by International Consolidations, leading to a reduction in the number of key controls held by our group by recommending leveraging Corporate Consolidations controls.

Oversaw the off-shoring of the EMEA consolidations process to Aon’s shared service center in Krakow, Poland, managing both the process documentation efforts of colleagues in the US and the training programs to prepare colleagues in Poland to carry out the necessary consolidation processes.
