Principal Advisor

Bank of America

At Bank of America I lead search engine optimization programs for consumer and small business credit card divisions, commercial and institutional banking through Bank of America Merrill Lynch and wealth management lines with Merrill Lynch and US Trust. This includes responsibility for all local SEO efforts for the bank’s 6k+ US branches, 800 Merrill Lynch offices, and a portfolio of 13k financial advisors.

In this role I partner with digital marketing/sales, development, UX, and legal teams to migrate consumer and credit card sites to new versions of the bank’s proprietary CMS platform. During my tenure I have supported site redesign projects for US Trust, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and Merrill Lynch Financial Advisors, including SEO optimization and testing. I also provide SEO advisory as a subject matter expert to business partners. 

I’ve driven innovation in local search capabilities (i.e. Google Posts, locator video/content CTAs) and led beta testing of new Google products as a corporate partner to provide feedback and influence future local search product enhancements. I also manage relationships with agencies and data aggregators to ensure bank locations have accurate data and visibility within popular search engines.

Vice President, SEO (Enterprise Marketing)

LexisNexis Legal

I was chosen to lead the launch and web marketing initiatives for MyFirmManager.com, a new SaaS product targeted to small law firms. I engaged a product team to help develop personas, a beta program, a registration process, and our customer acquisition strategy.

We were successful in acquiring 1000+ public beta users within the first 60 days of the campaign launch, using digital marketing campaigns, SEO (keyword research, landing page optimization, A/B testing, bidding strategies), PPC, Google Content Network image ads, and email marketing. Our brand paid search campaigns achieved a CTR increase of 370% with email campaign CTR 6x above LexisNexis average. 

I developed our Paid Search landing page optimization (LPO) strategy utilizing LiveBall and Google Website Optimizer, and lead generation increased over 20%+ YoY from paid search due in part to LPO strategy. I also managed several champion/challenger test and learn scenarios that increased quality scores on Google and CTR. Web marketing campaigns became responsible for over 75% of new customer acquisitions. In the end, we were able to grown a new domain name and website with no search engine visibility to top rankings on multiple high value terms in first 90 days post beta.

I also led project development, planning, and implementation for a re-deployment of a marketing site onto a new CMS platform as the first micro-site within the LexisNexis Business of Law Software Solutions division. This plan was repeated with five other company products.

 Senior Search Strategist

Pinnacle Publications, LLC

Pinnacle was my freelance consulting company founded to provide interactive marketing solutions, application development, and graphic design for startup and mid-market organizations. I serviced clients in diverse industries including publishing, legal and transportation, providing SEO consulting, paid search analysis, usability analysis, competitive intelligence, and web application development including PHP and ColdFusion projects.

During this time I also published several articles on business, interactive marketing, and company specific profiles for print magazines, and wrote guest blog posts on interactive marketing.

Founder

MarketSmart Interactive

Roles included VP of Operations (1999-2004), VP Interactive Advertising (2004-05), and VP and GM (2005-06). MSI was a public company focused on interactive marketing solutions with core offerings for SEO, interactive media placement, paid search management, e-mail marketing and affiliate marketing. 

I joined MSI as the first employee and held positions of increasing responsibility, driving the company as it grew from two entrepreneurs to 170 employees and $24M in annual revenues with major clients that included Motorola, CitiFinancial, Black & Decker, Dewalt, Lowes, US Army Reserves, Sirius, Georgia Pacific, Interstate Batteries, and University of North Carolina.

As VP and GM I hired, managed, and mentored SEO teams responsible for designing and implementing SEO campaigns, SEO compliance audits, and various analysis (usability, keyword, etc.).  I led paid search teams, developed paid search and email marketing campaign strategy, and monitored campaign performance. I also designed social media strategy and led launch for Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn. During this time I also managed marketing budgets of $1M+ in monthly spend. 

As VP, Interactive Advertising I created and launched a paid search management division to expand capabilities beyond SEO and design, and drove product from launch to $1.4M in monthly ad billings within nine months. I established vendor relations with key paid search providers and managed key accounts including Google, Yahoo!, Overture, MSN, and Findwhat. 

As VP of Ops I wore many hats as we grew, leading operations, HR and recruiting, IT, purchasing, facilities development, customer service, and benefit management.

I am a dedicated and decisive technology leader with over 22 years of experience that includes VP level roles at both fast-growing startups and Fortune 100 companies. My expertise includes technical project management, search engine optimization strategy, digital marketing, startup operations, and product management. Over my career I have maintained hands-on abilities while in strategic roles, and I have built and led technical teams to execute those strategies.

My diverse experience includes leadership roles with giants like Bank of America and LexisNexis, and I’ve also been the first employee of a startup that grew to a public company with $24M in annual revenue.
