Hi, I'm Tom. I'm the Chief AI Officer at General Purpose, the leading provider of instructor-led classes dedicated to teaching the rest of us how to use AI well. I'm also the founder of labworks.io, a Webby-award-winning Conversation Design studio and the creator of Voice Arcade, one of the largest Alexa skill publishers in the world. My background is as a Conversation Designer which meant I got a head start on playing with Large Language Models and I'm often referred to as a Prompt Engineer these days though I prefer the term Prompt designer as it's more of an art than a science at the moment. Before conversation design I worked as a product designer and started out my career as a journalist. Through all of that though I've always been highly entrepreneurial both founding multiple businesses and working on disruptive projects within large organisations including for the UK government. I'm an Alexa Champion (Amazon's program for recognising top developers in the voice AI space) and one of voicebot.ai's top 44 leaders in voice which is the only time my name will ever appear in the same list as Jeff Bezos! As my friends and colleagues know, I'm endlessly quotable so you'll occasionally see me pop up on the BBC, Bloomberg and other media outlets talking about AI, conversation design and Large Language Models.
