Making sure our food supply is sustainable for the future is important because of changes in the environment and limited resources. We need new ideas to make sure crops will continue to grow. Scientists are still learning about how tiny organisms in the soil affect plant growth and survival. I did four experiments to see how different types of these organisms affect a plant's ability to defend itself against a type of insect called the cabbage root fly. I found that having a moderate amount of diversity among these organisms and certain types of them can actually harm the plant.
