Leadership isn’t always soft.
Sometimes it’s sharp.

I’ve always thought of empathy as a strength —
reading the room, leading through tension, connecting fast.

Then I listened to Alan Alda’s If I Understood You, Would I Have This Look on My Face?

And I didn’t like it.

Not because it was bad.
Because it was right.

I felt friction the whole time.
Every story about empathy and communication made me uncomfortable.

Then it hit me —
I’m not great at receiving empathy.
I’m great at using it.

That difference?
Massive perspective shift.

😱 Empathy doesn’t make you a good person.
😱 Empathy can be a control strategy disguised as connection.

Once I stopped trying to be “good at empathy,” I started learning again.

✨ You can teach empathy to doctors — and it actually improves healing.
✨ Improvisation (“Yes, and…”) isn’t performance. It’s presence.

This book reminded me:
Real empathy isn’t about being liked.
It’s about being aware — 
of yourself, of others, and of when care turns into control.

It’s uncomfortable. 
And it’s growth.
