I didn’t always know I’d end up in sales. Growing up, I wanted to be a lawyer. I studied International Relations in university and eventually found myself in the world of banking. 

It was stable, structured, and... not quite for me. I wanted something more dynamic, something that allowed me to connect with people in a real way. That’s when I discovered tech sales.

Now, was the journey smooth? Not exactly......

Transitioning from banking to sales meant stepping into a whole new world. I had to unlearn what I thought I knew and build new skills from scratch. But through determination (and a lot of trial and error), I figured it out.

Fast forward to now, and I’ve not only hit quota but consistently exceeded it, thanks to a sales approach rooted in strategy, creativity, and genuine connection.

When I’m not dialing or sending cold emails, I’m crafting content that tells a story. I write strategic, engaging, and inspiring content that doesn’t just drive clicks, it drives action.

I toured 3 different countries with my wife in November.

Funny thing is, it wasn’t spontaneous.

It was a promise I made when we first started dating

Life is a collection of places, but the best destinations are the people you take with you.

Oh yeah, I love being in sales and chasing more commissions.

→ Doing the big life stuff with the people who held me down when I had nothing to show anyway

A job is only a vehicle.

A personal brand is just the microphone.

A business is the classroom (especially when it fails you forward).

But success?

Success is the faces you come home to.

The laughter you don’t schedule.

The love that isn’t conditional on commission.

Comparison will distract you from your own mission.

So pause. Write what success means to you.

Then go all-in and chase it on your own terms, even if the crowd doesn’t get it.

I hit 210% quota last month only with LinkedIn DMs

And everything came down to these 4 things:

1. I talked to the right 30, not the next 300
Your real opportunity is always hiding inside the smallest list you ignore.

Most top performers get 80% of results from 20% of their lead pool, the ones who can actually buy, talk, and decide without forwarding your message to the real adult.

2. I DM’d with pure relevance and structure
Every message had a point, a path, and a pulse. Directness isn’t rude in sales… ambiguity is the real offense.

3. I live by the “speed to lead” rule

If they show interest, I move instantly. If the next step isn’t selling, I still chat. Build trust first, deals second. 72% of my warm replies became closed won because of this alone.

4. I disqualified fast without heartbreak
Ironically, 40% of my wins came from saying: I’m not sure this is a fit for you.

And then watching them passionately audition to be qualified. 😂

There was this lead we’d been working for a while.

Amazing demo.
Perfect fit.
She was excited, we were excited.

And then, she disappeared.

No replies.
No emails.
No callbacks.

My AE tried. I tried. The sequence tried.
Nothing moved her.

One morning, I was reviewing my high-intent leads, the ones who should have bought but suddenly went silent.

Laura’s name stared right back at me.
Something in me said: try again.

So I dialed.

I was speechless.

Because sometimes, sales isn’t “always be closing.”

Sometimes, it’s “always be human.”
And when you lead with humanity…

This is the most dangerous lead status in your CRM

The most dangerous lead status in a CRM isn’t Closed Lost.

It’s "Follow Up Later."

Closed Lost literally means it died.
Follow Up Later means you let it haunt you.

Psychologically, this status really means:

→ I don’t want to hear no, so I’ll talk tomorrow.
→ I hope timing magically fixes objection.
→ Maybe future-me will close what present-me couldn’t.

It’s the CRM version of keeping unread messages in your inbox for comfort.

People who use this status a lot aren’t weak at sales. They’re just human and scared of endings.

But here’s the twist if you ask me :
A lead staying in “Follow Up Later” for 60+ days converts at under 2%.

Not because the lead is bad,
But because your conviction faded before theirs even started.

The strongest sellers I know use a simple rule in their CRM Systems:
✅ Do it now
✅ Or pick a real day and time
✅ Or let it rest

No ghosts. No later clouds.
Because hesitation loses more opportunities than rejection ever will.

Here’s the real template behind those 300+ meetings:

1️⃣ I learned that most prospects don’t respond to clarity, they respond to contrast.

Your prospects don’t move because they understand you.

They move because they feel the difference between where they are… and where they could be.

2️⃣ I stopped “personalizing” and started “prioritizing.”

Personalization is overrated. What works is prioritization.
Meaning: Instead of writing 200 custom lines… I found the 3 signals that predict higher response probability:
• Recent hiring → +27%
• Recent product launch → +19%
• Budget ownership shift → +34%

These three alone booked more meetings than every “I loved your post…” message combined.

Personalization makes you look thoughtful. Prioritization makes you money. 🤑🤑

3️⃣ I realized 80% of objections are really just time problems.
Not budget. Not interest. Not competition.
But time, once I understood that, I changed my entire approach.

I stopped fighting objections and started scheduling them.

4️⃣ I followed up like a scientist, not a beggar.
Most reps follow up emotionally: “When will they reply?” I followed up mathematically instead. 
I rebuilt my process around those numbers  not my feelings. Follow-up stopped being frustrating and started being predictable.

5️⃣ I treated curiosity as a KPI.
You can’t force buyers to trust you. But you can make them curious enough to check who you are.
 Because curiosity opens doors faster than persuasion.

If you master contrast → prioritization → timing → scientific follow-up → curiosity, your outbound will look nothing like it used to.

After sending 3,000+ cold emails this year.

Here are 5 things that actually booked me more meetings:

Writing less… on purpose.The emails that worked weren’t as genius.

They were short enough to read while waiting for coffee. If I needed to scroll, the prospect definitely didn’t.

2.  Asking for less upfront.
“Quick chat” beat “15-minute intro call.”
One felt optional.
The other felt like homework.


3.  Timing mattered more than cleverness.
Same email.
Different day.
Completely different outcome.
Cold email has nothing against you, it’s just impatient.


4.  Following up like a normal person.
My best reply ever came from:
“Not sure if this landed, happy to disappear if now’s not right.”

Ironically, that’s when they replied immediately.


5. Making sure Gmail didn’t hate me that week.
This one humbled me.
Turns out some “bad prospects” never saw my message at all.

But once I fixed delivery, my calendar suddenly stopped playing hard to get.

That’s when meetings started rolling in, not because I became Shakespeare,
but because my emails finally showed up where humans live.

These days, I treat copy as important,
but deliverability as non-negotiable.

That’s also why I now test both SMTP and Google-based inboxes using tools like Maildoso, instead of guessing which setup the internet will behave nicely with this week.

Lesson learned:
Good emails don’t book meetings.

This is exactly how to move your deals from closed lost to closed won.

We all know that pain when a lead you’ve labored on gets labeled Closed-Lost.

It immediately feels like nothing matters anymore right?

But they say prevention is better than cure, so here are 6 lessons I use to protect my deals (and my feelings a little):

1. Qualify like crazy before you start chasing.If the lead smells confused, vague or polite-curious… abort mission. An unqualified lead isn’t a pipeline, it’s cardio.

2. Follow up fast, but don’t sound frantic.
Replying 2 days later is like telling your lead “sorry my network was bad, talk soon?”
No, your prioritization was bad. Fix it.

3. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of shipped.
My best follow-ups were simple voice notes like: “Hey, I thought of you, still a fit?”

Not 6 paragraphs… this isn’t a scholarship essay.

4. Talk to who decides, not who “updates the decider.”
I once lost a $12K commission because I kept convincing the wrong human.
Man was rooting for me… but couldn’t sign. Respectfully useless.

 5. If the conversation is drying, add empathy not grammar.
“Is everything okay?” beat
“Just bumping this thread to the top of your inbox” every single time.

6. Detach your ego, but not your intent. A “no” isn’t always personal. Silence sometimes just means life is beating them up too.

Some deals will still escape.
But  fewer will.
And enough will stay to pay you commission without therapy afterward.

Closed-Lost isn’t the end…
It’s tuition you already paid.

I’ve paid a lot of that fee.
Now I’m teaching the class. 😌

Stay sharp, stay human.
Protect both your pipeline and your peace.
