I started in the Despatch Department of an Advertising Agency that was brave enough to hire me at 17. From Copywriter to Client Service and Business Development then onto Senior Management and Board roles in agencies and marketing teams. Although I had enjoyed the people, creative and strategy aspects of the industry, I felt I had outgrown it. Surely there had to be a more meaningful and purposeful way of living than just selling more and even more of the same stuff! It was time to use a wide range of transferrable skills in a whole new way. With 2 members of my family living with dementia in aged care homes, I believed many aspects of their overall care were missing. I researched care industry game-changers around the world, undertook university study and built a 1-on-1 dementia care program; working with those living at home, in respite centres and then in aged care homes. The lives they had lived, were living and were yet to live were of immense value far beyond clinical, everyday functional care and the busyness of activity calendars. As the care industry recovers from intense scrutiny and wrestles with demanding levels of compliance, it is time to begin building a new kind of care for the future.
