- My role and responsibilities included doing research, analysis and designing final output while supporting the development and documentation.

- Conducted workshops for 4000+ colleagues and supported creation if educational courses to support design democratization at Fractal. 

- Creating value with design system not just for designers but also PM's, analysts and others at fractal which also results in generation of several revenue sources by it's use. 

- Worked on an internal SKU to redefine the entire experience of the B2B product. 

- Created end to end B2B solution named "Enterprise marketplace" for Fractal. Secondary research, IA, User flows and end solution. Creating better awareness about need for holistic design process amongst other stakeholder of the solution. 

- Worked with Google (Client) to define some of the dashboard experiences and supporting in business development or scoping. 

- Introduced Sketch noting to the organisation, later adapted and used by several designers or teams to communicate, market and document conversations in various events.

- Created some illustration projects to keep my visual skills up and running. 

- Assisted in team and project management while learning the same.

- Earned "Start award" for outstanding performance and exceptional commitment.

Mike Monteiro shared his life and work experience in the design field in his book—Ruined by Design: How Designers Destroyed the World, and What We Can Do to Fix It. Unsurprisingly, most people recognized that design is a verb (P69) for personal expression or social act. He emphasizes that design's impact is primarily determined by the designer's actions rather than their intentions (P82). The traditional view confines design to specific crafts as a professional discipline. Designer’s job is not just to protect the people or users who come in contact with the tools we build (P58). In the transformation era, designers advocate for a broader approach that considers political, cultural, systemic, and global complexities.
 
Monteiro argued the role and responsibility of being a designer has grown significantly in importance, particularly since the general impression of designers still equates designing with “the pushing of pixels” (P141). The designers’ values are more than moving pixels, changing line colors, and shaping product forms on paper. He argued that designers do not simply serve as cogs in the machines of society, instead like oil or catalysts ensuring the smooth operation and harmony of societal systems (P107).
 
Monteiro points out that reluctance towards design research often stems from big ego and fear, rather than a lack of capability (P117). In the field, designers don’t ask for permission to do their job and research (P109). Sometimes, asking for forgiveness is more important than permission. Monteiro also discussed the importance of design leadership and culture. For example, why do bosses need to teach designers to think outside the box when they can hire talents outside the box (P74)? Having a successful design career has little to do with how creative designers are (P65). Companies and design leaders invest not only in ideas but also in the people who can shape and build the creative culture and energy around those ideas.

Years of experience is a 💩 metric for evaluating designers

Why? Because years ≠ expertise

Focusing on quality and impact of work is a better measure.

Here are 5 questions to consider:

1.  Did their projects achieve positive outcomes?
2.  How much responsibility and influence did they have?
3.  Were their efforts aligned with business strategy and impactful?
4.  Did they effectively collaborate with and challenge stakeholders?
5.  How extensive is their domain knowledge?

By focusing on the quality and depth of one's experience, we'll:

>  create a more accurate representation of designer value
>  make better hiring decisions
>  cultivate stronger design teams

Experiences and ability to deliver are far more important than ‘years served’!
