I graduated 3 years ago today.

Here's what I’d tell myself if I could go back:

- A 30k/mo salary would never get you the Prius you dream of. Not in 3 years, not in 10. Surround yourself with people who think bigger. Say yes to opportunities that scare you. Sometimes all it takes is one right handshake to change your entire direction.

- Be the person people trust to fix their problems fast, with no friction. If you’re anything less, you’re replaceable. The market always rewards problem-solvers over title-holders.

- Building from scratch will test you. Without connections, it’s tougher and lonelier than you expect. But anchor yourself to your “why.” The pain of consistent growth is always lighter than the weight of staying average.

My 4-year degree taught me enough to hold a conversation in a room full of experts.

But it didn’t teach me how to: 

- Sell
- Create
- And enjoy the work I wake up to every day.

So if I could talk to my 4-years-younger self, I’d say:

It was good.
But it wasn’t for me.

I made a risky move yesterday.

I changed my headline from “CEOs & Founders” to “Mortgage Brokers.”

The inner voice in me screamed:
“You just disqualified hundreds of opportunities.”
“Good luck getting the next lead, Fatima.”

The thing about risk is that sometimes it pays off faster than you expect.

In less than 5 hours, my phone pinged with a warm, qualified lead.

The founder of a massive brokerage in Florida.

But the catch is that the guy has 0 social presence.

And that’s the painful part. I see so many brilliant minds and strong businesses losing potential because of:

- Generic AI fluff

Was it strategic positioning? Absolutely.

Has anyone noticed how:


Clickbait hooks barely get noticed anymore.
Personal stories still beat any other format.
Humorous content (if it sticks) performs solid.
“Top 10 LinkedIn growth hacks” are long dead.
The most random yet raw thoughts still blow up.
Text posts with depth beat surface-level thirst traps.
Comment sections are bolder, and people call out and disagree openly.

LinkedIn is evolving EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
And it will keep shifting.

Trends come and go.

But the creators who win aren’t the ones chasing every wave.

They are the ones who:

Stay true to their voice
And use trends as a strategy, not identity.

P.S: What’s one thing that crushed it in 2025 but feels dead in 2026?

I’ve seen some terrible advice on LinkedIn.

But this one takes the cake:

“Don’t sell in your content, it’s desperate”
“Avoid CTAs. They seem sneaky”

Tons of personal branding gurus tell you to “build a community", “give 100% of your value for free".

But no one is dumb. We are all here to run a business. 

You’ll only survive so long on clout. Without clients, this platform becomes a nightmare. (Likes don’t pay bills, they say)

Sell shamelessly. Here are 3 reasons why:

1/ The market is crowded & no one is doing guesswork. Selling openly clears friction & positions you as a professional, not just someone who posts.

2/ Great content builds visibility, but unless you attach it to an offer, it only educates or entertains. Adding CTAs signals that you have the capacity for more clients.

3/ Decision makers are busy folks. If someone resonates with your work, but has no clue how to engage you, they won’t bother & simply move on.

Here’s how you can rework it:

- Tie client stories to highlight your offer
- Handle objections your prospects may have
- Add a simple DM me/Book a call for the next step

LinkedIn isn’t a charity.
It’s a marketplace.

Your next client is waiting for clarity, not mystery.

Sending Voice notes scares me to death.

Ask me to articulate my thoughts in a meeting, & I’ll stumble.

(I sometimes wonder if it’s my voice I’m embarrassed about)

But I’ll gladly type a 1000-word message venting my thoughts. 

Looking back, I’ve realised that not being the most chatty person doesn’t make me less than.

I’m a listener & find my strength in writing.
Give me a keyboard & I’ll pour my soul into words.

I find my voice on paper.

Need someone to write a heartfelt apology? 
A video script?
Maybe even a love letter?

Writing is both my safe space & my superpower.

Thing is, quiet, observant people often outshine the talkers:

We notice what others miss.
We process before we express.
And we give words to the voices that can’t find theirs.

So, no, I may not be the loudest social butterfly in the room.

But I’m the one who can articulate what others feel but can't always say out loud.

For those people… I write. 

And if my words happen to help someone feel a little less unseen, that’s enough for me.
