Launching The Seychelles Retreats was a completely self funded endeavour. Here’s how I assessed the risks vs rewards to take the leap 👇 

It’s understandable that since launching business retreats, I’ve had conversations with founders interested in launching their own retreats.

There are two challenges that are common to face: 

1. it’s expensive to financially back up a retreat before clients book rooms
2. marketing a retreat to bring in attendees is a whole new strategy 

I made the decision out the gate to create luxury business retreats.

By this fact, they are a bigger investment than a lot of other retreats out there. 

As far as financial backing goes, I funded everything myself, until the day I sold my first ticket. 

But I was very strategic about my investments:
— a good brand designer
— a ton of market research
— and great photos.

The messaging and website design, I did that myself.

But to actually fund the retreat? That comes from ticket sales. 

And waiting for tickets to sell can be a nerve wracking time for most.

But this is where your grit comes in and your belief in the experience you've designed.

Either you believe this is so incredible that people will buy in - so they do.
Or you’re hesitant to push forward - in which case your leads will be too.

It’s the name of the game for any offer.

You run your cost analysis and budget in the back end. Decide on the level of experience you want to create. Then you put your entire back into showing people how incredible you know this is going to be.

Because then what happens, is that you attract people who have that similar confidence and grit in their own businesses.

I’ve found that in building my retreats, I’ve attracted people who value investing big because they too want to encourage their clients to grow big. 

I'm not at all concerned about how things may or may not work out. Because I am *that* (audaciously?) confident that I will attract the right people.

It’s an infectionous energy to want to be in rooms where people are launching big, thinking big and breaking their own comfort zones.

Of course you can be nervous (I know it’s scary, let’s be real, most of the time) but this fear is good if you use it to fuel your leap.

This next retreat in March 2025 has two absolute legend guest workshop hosts and it’s going to have a winning group of attendees. I don’t “think” it - I KNOW.

“Pace yourself, you’re doing so much!” — is the comment I get the most.

I’m building two businesses. Maintaining a relationship. Working on my health and fitness. Planning a big move very soon.

I have a very full life, but for now, I like it this way.

I’m the happiest and most motivated I’ve ever been.

Following my energy and intuition means I can work, play and live in a way that feels good to me and still serves those around me.

Including my clients and the teams I work with. 


March was pretty full on, and April is looking no different.
Here’s what I’ve been up to:

→ Went scuba diving twice.
→ And to the beach every weekend.
→ Booked a plane ticket to Australia for July.
→ Cooked a fabulous Sunday lunch with my mum.
→ Visited 3 newly opened restaurants for date night.
→ Finished watching Peaky Blinders for the first time.
→ Hosted a BBQ day at our place with our closest friends.
→ Stuck to my commitment of going to the gym 3-4 days a week.
→ Passed my official Dutch language test which means I can start applying for a residency visa.


But believe it or not, I still get work done…

I’ve also:

→ Onboarded a new client.
→ Sent out 2 new proposals.
→ Applied for a few certification programmes.
→ Started writing a VSL for a client affiliate programme.
→ Averaged about 30 hours of billable client time every week.
→ Launched a new free community for entrepreneurs in Seychelles.
→ Delivered a marketing progress report at an investor meeting for a client. 
→ Been assigned to create a marketing video to be featured on a billboard in Times Square (eek!)
→ Worked on getting our March 2025 retreat finalised so we can open tickets to the waitlist as of next week. 

I’m a believer in “seasons” in business and life.

Sometimes you work a lot because that’s where your energy and circumstances of life pull you.

Other times are quiet and you rest and recharge.

But ”balance” is not something that you will “find” someday. It’s not a destination to expect to reach.

Instead, I recommend seeing it as a constantly evolving effort at building harmony between your life and your energy.

And only you know how to make that all work out. 

This is what works for me, and it’s far from perfect. 

But I make the most of the freedoms I have from being self-employed.

And for now, I’m happy.

The universe sends you signs that say “you’re ready” — but you have to be listening and seize the moments that fall in your lap.

I had a dream to run retreats in Seychelles way before I launched The Seychelles Retreats but I didn’t take the leap. 

I didn’t have conviction that it was time.

Until about 12 months ago, when on a random Saturday, with no strategy, rhyme or reason, I decide to make a post about “Questions I often get asked about living in Seychelles 🏝️☀️”

It took me 10 minutes to write that post, and I attached a photo of me outside my home by the beach.

I was hesitant to hit post. 

Up till that point, I’d never really spoken about my life in Seychelles.

Only my clients knew I was from here and that I had this slightly exceptional life on the islands.

But that day, something moved me to write about it. 

The post when a bit viral within a few hours, with over 300,000 impressions and almost 1000 reactions and as I watched the numbers go up, it felt like a sign.

And while it’s true that the numbers don’t always matter and that you need to be careful with virality, in this case, the numbers showed me that people were interested. 

And so I began the Saturdays in Seychelles series. 

The series gained traction. People wanted to learn more. The photos played a big role (let’s be honest). But so did the stories I had to share.

I formed the company (with my partner Oscar). I designed the brand (thank you Jane Kisnica 💙), I designed my website (myself) and got to building a little network of people on the islands who would help me bring this vision to life.

I can tell you now, 1 year in and 2 retreats already hosted, I’m so glad I hit post. 

I literally have the best boss! Let me tell you about her.

When I request a pay rise, she's considerate and it's almost always yes.

When I feel poorly, she makes sure I take my sick and mental health days.

When I need a challenge in my work, she encourages me to try new things. 

During busy season, she's strict about meeting client deliverables, but she values boundaries and stands up for me with our clients.

When I need to finish work early, she trusts I'll make the time later.

During low season, she let's me take extra time off and enjoy the down time, instead of pressuring us to always hustle.

When I can't figure something out, she pushes me to ask for help.

If I make a mistake, she's empathetic and understands that we're all human.

She actively works with me to solve problems in our workflows so that our business and personal lives are in harmony.

When I have a big win, she celebrates me and rewards my hard work.

When I want to advance my skillset, she invests in my knowledge and personal development and puts it on the business card.

👉 I'm starting with a new client today for Fractional Operations Management.

We're optimising all her operations and processes to support her recent scaleup from solo business owner to a team of 8.

The goal is to get her out of the business, get her project manager in place, train her team in Asana and create systems ready for a new volume of lead generation. I love this kind of work!

👉 I'll clock in for another client for whom I'm Fractional Marketing Director. 

This work is ongoing since October and right now our biggest project is planning a video placement for Times Square! 

Imagine me in little Seychelles planning a billboard for all the way in New York. What is my life?
