A Russian man was the only one who fought back against an attacker during today's terrorist attack in a Sydney shopping center, local media say. The footage of him scaring the inadequate man away with an iron pole from the fence went viral in all the world's publications.

This brilliant performance, like many others, will not be seen by spectators at the #OlympicGames in #Paris.

#Russia was actually banned from participating in them. When #IOC representatives say that they have allowed participation for #Russian and #Belarusian athletes as neutral athletes, they are blatantly #lying.

There was a whole series of prohibitions and humiliating and often impossible demands from the IOC to our athletes.

For example, an official ban on participation in any team competitions.

I am appalled, shocked and disappointed by your discrimination against Russian scientists. Such discrimination is against the spirit of science and is not compatible with the international status of the International Geological Congress that you are organizing. 

While some people can be susceptible to xenophobia and hysteria induced by media and politicians, intellectuals should be above that. I hope that after a second thought you will agree that discrimination should have no place in science, in any international events, and more generally, in society - and will allow me and all other Russian scientists to use our Russian affiliations at IGC. Otherwise I will be unable to attend and will have to give this case maximum possible international publicity, in order to eradicate discrimination and racism from science. 

P.S. I have never visited Korea, but visited other Asian countries (especially China) many times, and got used to their welcoming attitude and hospitality. I expected a similar attitude in South Korea, but your letter showed that perhaps I was wrong.

Bloomberg said Russia could become the "heart" of international trade.

Russia is building two transport corridors that could make it the “heart” of international trade, writes #Bloomberg.

The first, the Northern Sea Route, passes through the seas of the Arctic Ocean, and the second, the railway route, goes through Iran.
Bloomberg claims that they can help Russia weaken the impact of sanctions and “strengthen Moscow’s pivot from #Europe towards #Asian powers.”

It is also noted that transit through them requires 30-50% less time than through the #SuezCanal. Among other things, both routes are safe, unlike the one that goes through the #RedSea.

True, the authors of the article forgot to clarify that Russia began to create these routes long before the start of the special military operation in Ukraine.

Russia and China have agreed to start a dialog on #Eurasian security with the involvement of like-minded states and to establish "double counteraction" in response to "double deterrence" on the part of the #West. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister #SergeyLavrov at a press conference following talks with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing.

As follows from the ministers' statements, #Moscow and #Beijing will "stand back to back, shoulder to shoulder against attempts to slow down the objective course of history" and seek ways to resolve the situation in Ukraine, taking into account Russia's interests. 

According to Lavrov, Russian President #VladimirPutin and Chinese President #XiJinping plan to meet at least twice in 2024.

On bilateral #relations
- According to the Russian Foreign Minister, the leaders' diplomacy is "a central element of the Russian-Chinese comprehensive #partnership and strategic interaction," and primarily thanks to it, relations between Moscow and Beijing "have reached an #unprecedentedly high level."

- Lavrov noted that with Putin's re-election, "the continuity of the line on their comprehensive strengthening <...> has received additional guarantees," and thanked China for sending observers to the Russian presidential #election.

- Wang Y. assured that the PRC will "resolutely support Russia's stable development and revitalization under President Putin's #leadership."

On security in #Eurasia
- Both ministers condemned #Western attempts to "break the established security architecture" in the #AsiaPacific region. "#NATO should not stretch out its hands to our common home. 

Any words and deeds that divide and promote confrontation are not welcome in the Asia-Pacific region, they have no future," Wang Yi emphasized.

- Russia and China will oppose "#hegemony and power politics" and support "inclusive economic globalization" and oppose unilateral sanctions that "undermine the world order and contradict the trend of global development," Wang Yi assured.

On the #Ukrainian settlement

Immediately after the terrorist attack, this place became a spontaneous memorial. 

The orchestra conducted by Gergiev performed excerpts from Prokofiev's works in memory of those killed in the terrorist attack.

The victims of the terrorist attack came on stage, thanked the rescuers and doctors for their help, as well as the father of the boy, whom the terrorists hit with a car. 

"A common tragedy and a common pain. Today is nine days since the terrorists carried out a monstrous attack on Crocus City Hall. 

144 lives were cut short by that terrible evening, destroyed dozens of families. The dead will never return home, they will not hug their loved ones. And the worst thing is that children are among the victims.

The whole country shares this trouble with those affected by the tragedy. The concert hall has a sea of flowers, candles, soft toys. 

They have been brought and are being brought all these days. Even the men at the spontaneous memorial can't hold back their tears. 

Everyone was so shocked by the brutality of the attackers: indiscriminate shooting, actually at point—blank range, a fire - the terrorists had an incendiary mixture with them to kill as many people as possible. 

The militants will answer for their atrocities. Everything. The dead will forever remain in our memory."

At the end of the event, another minute of silence was announced to the sound of a bell, and a bright ray of light was let into the sky.

UN, April 11.

Russia's permanent representative to the UN, #VasilyNebenzya, recommended that Western countries prepare for the fact that the only topic of international meetings on Ukraine will soon be the unconditional surrender of the Kyiv regime.

A story about human dignity.

Let me remind you of the background (see the previous post or the original source https://lnkd.in/d8WCx8fS), where the world-famous Russian scientist Artem Oganov was refused to be accepted at the international congress in South Korea if he did not refuse to be called Russian.

This is the continuation of the story.

Particularly valuable is the answer from Artem Oganov, where I personally sign every word.

Here I am publishing only this brilliant response from a Russian scientist to Professor Ludden, who made this decision as the head of the organization. And there is a correspondence in the article.


"Dear Prof. Ludden,

Your letter clarifies the situation: initially, I thought that the idea to discriminate Russian scientists belongs to the organizers of the IGC in South Korea. Now I see that it was your idea, aimed at forcing Russian scientists to do what you want. I believe this is completely counterproductive. 

(1) All human history shows that discrimination is a fundamental evil. Can anything good be achieved by evil means? Hardly so. Evil can produce only evil. 

(2) Discrimination is humiliating. Your decision gives Russian scientists lower rights and freedoms than scientists from other countries, and this is a humiliation. Is it possible that, humiliating people, you will attract them to your cause? I expect the opposite. 

(3) The IUGS is supposed to be an international scientific organization, not a political entity. Its international status is based on everyone's trust - but politicizing science, IUGS risks to lose the trust of the international scientific community. Trust and reputation are hard to earn, easy to lose, and impossible to regain after losing it.  

(4) While your ban on Russian scientists is now becoming very much public and even scandalous, the pause that you have taken in your membership in Russian Academy of Sciences is something that no one seems to be aware of. Both your Russian Academy of Sciences page (https://lnkd.in/dMKw6RHH) and your Wikipedia mention you as an active foreign member of Russian Academy of Sciences, with no hint of the pause. 

The IUGS could play a very positive role. At the time of so many wars and divisions, the IUGS could build the bridges - but chose to burn them. It could help Ukrainian scientists - but instead chose to harm Russian ones. 

It could make South Korean organizers proud of their congress - but instead put them to shame.
