Hi, I’m Valentina Furlanetto, a passionate postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. My academic journey started in Italy, where I completed my Bachelor's and Master’s degrees in Chemistry at the University of Padua. I later earned my PhD in Structural Biology from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm. My research focuses on structural biology, bioinformatics, protein expression, and advanced techniques like X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), and now exploring cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET). Throughout my career, I’ve applied my structural biology expertise to a variety of important fields. I’ve worked on cancer research, investigated bacteria-plant interactions, and am now focused on studying mitochondria, particularly mitochondrial transcription. This interdisciplinary approach is central to my work, as I believe combining insights from different fields is essential for pushing the boundaries of science and creating real-world impact. One of my core motivations is making science more accessible to a wider audience. To achieve this, I co-founded and co-host The Inventing Herstory Podcast, where we spotlight the contributions of women scientists and inventors throughout history. This platform has allowed me to explore creative ways of communicating science and making complex ideas understandable and inspiring. At the heart of everything I do is a desire to combine different fields of science and promote collaboration to solve complex problems. I’m always eager to connect with other researchers, educators, and innovators who share this interdisciplinary mindset. Let’s work together to drive scientific discovery and make an impact!
