Most people don't know I spent years as a personal assistant before founding ChatterBoss and Yutori Method.

At the time, it felt like failure. I was a visionary trying to do detail work.

I remember solving a complex summer scheduling puzzle for four kids - camps, activities, availability all mapped. The system worked.

Then my boss asked about a detail from the previous version. My mind went blank. My visionary brain had already erased the "unnecessary" steps. I'd jumped straight to the solution.

These are my friends from junior high school.

20+ years later, we're still here.

We've been through job changes, marriages, divorces, cross-country moves - and we're all completely different than we were 15.

Most CEOs don’t realize they’re leading with whiplash.

Here’s how it looks:

- The Visionary has a burst of inspiration. Energy is high. Team goes all in.
- A month later, a new idea takes center stage. The team pivots again.
- This time, energy is diminished. Progress becomes inconsistent.

The result is almost always confused priorities, projects being at “80% done”, missed opportunities, and a team that quietly stops trusting direction.

But there’s good news. This isn’t a flaw in the Visionary. It’s the natural byproduct of a brain wired for innovation.

And let me be clear, the solution is not to dim that spark. It’s to pair it with an Integrator, and then optimize that visionary/integrator dyad.

The Integrator acts as a sounding board, a filter, and an advocate.

They evaluate which ideas align with strategy, which need to wait, and which should be set aside. That stability allows the company to harness Visionary creativity without exhausting the team.

When both roles are honored, momentum builds steadily.

These are the visionary’s superpowers (and Kryptonite):

Visionaries are rare. Just 3% of the population carries this wiring, and they’re responsible for creating two-thirds of all new jobs.

Here are the superpowers they bring to a company:

- Relentless idea generation
- Big-picture, strategic thinking
- Powerful external relationships
- An instinct for spotting opportunities before others do

But those same strengths often come with blind spots:

- Distraction: chasing too many initiatives at once
- Inconsistency: bursts of energy, followed by loss of interest
- Organizational whiplash: teams pivoting with every new idea, never gaining traction

I want to encourage you not to look at these as failings or personality flaws. It’s simply the Visionary’s design. It’s how you’re wired.

But it does mean that at some point, every Visionary needs an Integrator:

- To filter ideas and protect focus
- To create consistency and accountability
- To stabilize execution so creativity becomes impact

When both roles are honored, the result is sustainable growth without burning out the Visionary (or your team.)

The takeaway is simple: lean into your superpowers, and partner where you have kryptonite.

Most founders wait until $7M to bring in an Integrator. By then, they've already lost their best people.

But here's the trap: too much structure too early kills traction. Not enough structure for too long sends things off the rails.

$0–$2.5M: Founder carries both seats. Visionaries alongside you. An AMAZING Executive Assistant who steps in when needed.

$2.5M–$5M: Time to bring in your Integrator (Chief of Staff, Director of Ops).

$7M+: The Chief Integrator becomes non-negotiable.

The cost of waiting? Burnout, turnover, and missed opportunities - because your team is too busy firefighting to execute on what matters.

Everything else belongs with an Integrator - the steady force who aligns people, runs the systems, and makes the vision real.

And when you finally let go of the Integrator seat, two things happen immediately:
	1.	You reclaim time and energy for what only you can do.
	2.	Your company gains the consistency it’s been missing.
