Covid was a wake-up call for me. Sometimes when you’ve been out of the loop for a while, you lose some sense of yourself and your confidence. Then all of a sudden you’ll meet people who will literally change the entire direction of where you are headed. Those gifts or skills that you have had all along that you had forgotten about resurface and you realize how much you have to offer. A little over a year ago, a mutual friend, Anna, invited me to attend a gala benefiting the Williamson County Children‘s Advocacy Center. Being a “fashionista”, and always looking for any excuse to wear a gown and supporting a good cause(and there’s no greater cause then advocating for abuse children), I said yes. To me, galas were always one of those things that you see in movies where the women are dressed, beautifully and adorned with diamonds and tiaras, and the men are in tuxedos. Galas we’re only for people with big important titles and unlimited bank accounts and chauffeurs and stylists. I think I may have watched too many movies, and I am way too much of a hopeless romantic. Isn’t it so amazing how doing something simple like attending a fundraiser can change the course of your life? From there I got involved with local campaigns, and from that I met an incredible woman name Gloria Gonzales Dholakia , the Executive Director of the Jeremiah Program in Austin, who saw something in me that would benefit the JP, and asked me to become a board member with her organization. Having someone believe in you can do wonders for your confidence, and with confidence you are unstoppable! A true force to be reckoned with. Therefore, after taking a LONG hiatus from work, I have decided to put my life and work skills to good use and give back to non-profits that I am passionate about. Skills I’ve picked up from start-ups, NVIDIA Corp., the P.T.A., booster clubs, motherhood, etc.. My creativity and endless skills have come in handy on a daily basis. I feel like Napoleon Dynamite with my “mad skills”. Since 2022, I’ve gotten to experience so many things that I never thought that I would. I currently am co-chair of the Any Baby Can annual One Stellar Night Gala, Board Member at the Jeremiah Program, and a member of the Pinwheel Society for the WCCAC. I feel like I’ve lived 5 lifetimes and it’s been the most exhilarating time in my life. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it’s really NEVER too late to rediscover yourself and try everything at least once! And, of course, the most important thing to me is that you have to make sure to have FUN while you’re doing it!
