I was excited to work with the Alberta College of Art + Design - an organization that greatly contributes to our community and nurtures and grows creative and artistic thinkers. My role at ACAD was to support and manage some key Communications/Engagement projects.

I project managed the implementation of the school's new enterprise-level website, which officially launched in August 2015. This important and large-scale project serves as the key platform to share the College's story with prospective students, provides a comprehensive tool for current students, engages donors and sponsors, and communicates the wide range of educational and community initiatives at the College. I worked with all internal stakeholders to coordinate brand consistency, functionality and content, including working with an Advisory Group and Steering Committee, website developers, content writers and designers.

In the fall 2014 and again in 2015, I coordinated the design, writing and layout of the College's Catalyst Magazine, which profiles successful alumni, students and faculty and also showcases some of the many educational initiatives that ACAD implemented in the past year.

I also assisted with the College's Strategic Sustainability Plan. This included developing communication methods, coordinating and facilitating focus groups, summarizing key findings, and working to help create the College's revised Vision, Mission and Values statements.

A bit about me. As I was approaching my 40th birthday my career felt meaningless. I was going through a divorce. Then I got fired. I felt stuck, overwhelmed, like a failure, and completely unsure of what to do next. As challenging as this time in my life was, I’m grateful that it happened because it was the start of me developing tools, resources and practices that helped me get unstuck, stop feeling like a failure, and find purpose in my work. And now over a decade later I'm honoured to help women do the same.

Money isn't the only reason to leave a job.

Often it's leadership.

We spend a good deal of our lives working.

So finding a job that works for us is important.

According to Hays Recruiting group, the number of Canadians wanting to look for greener pastures in the next year is at an all time high.

And Money, Benefits and the opportunity for growth are topping the list of reasons.

In my practice, I often see clients who have received a raise or taken a new job with a pay increase, and seen no visible increase in their savings or investments.  

That's when a lightbulb goes off for them.

They know they could be doing money better.

Leaving a job for money reasons alone may not solve the money stress.


Over 80% of employees want financial literacy and capability programming as part of their workplace benefits.

I'm doing a research project to see what kind of resources and tools are available in the Employer World.

I am looking for 100 Human Resource and Learning and Development Leaders to complete an Employer Survey.

The goal is to understand what's available in the workplace to support employees to meet their personal financial goals, including the behavioural and emotional aspects of money.

Hays Financial Wellness Report

This weekend, I was triggered by a family member (who can relate??). I was excluded from something that I thought I should have been part of. I felt left out and hurt.

Initially I tried to push the feeling of hurt aside, but that just made it turn into anger. So later that evening I felt into the pain. What I realized was that it was my inner child who was feeling hurt and left out.

Fear of rejection is one of my core wounds and it stems from my childhood - feeling different, not feeling like I belong, and feeling the hurt of being excluded. As soon as I realized this I gave my little inner girl a big hug and told her that everything was okay and that she does belong. I felt the pain in my heart dissipate. I felt lighter. I was able to let go of my negative thoughts and feelings.

I'm sharing this with the intent that this helps you if you're experiencing a trigger. Turn to your little girl, give her a hug, tell her it's going to be okay, and let the negative feelings release. ❤️

I used to avoid saying that I help women stay accountable. I thought it would make me seem bossy or rigid. The reality is that being accountable is how we make changes in our life. It's how we take back control.

Often, we lose faith in our ability to be accountable after we experience a major life disruption such as a divorce or job loss. These experiences cause a loss of confidence and self-trust, resulting in accountability going by the wayside too.

But....getting accountable is what builds up confidence and self-trust.

So I'm honoured to hold women accountable to their dreams, their values, their goals, their plans, their health, their career, their relationships, their purpose. It's how they create their next (and best!) chapter - one that's brimming with confidence, meaning, self-assuredness, satisfaction, and self-trust.

As we start the week, a reminder to focus on what you WANT, rather than on what's not going so well.

(P.S. This is mostly a reminder to myself, because sometimes I veer off onto paying attention to the problem, rather than the SOLUTION. And focusing on the solution - i.e. taking ACTION - is the way to start moving towards what you want).

You know how sometimes you need to hear a message and you start seeing and hearing it in multiple ways?

For me lately, the message has been to remind me of the blessings in adversity. Whether in scripture, a podcast, or a personal development book - the message has been clear - hard times, sad times, challenging times - are how we grow, learn, tap into creativity, and most importantly, gain wisdom.

The messages I've been receiving have caused me to reflect on how much I've learned and the gifts that have come my way. Not that I would have seen them during the hard times, but it's strengthening the resilience and hope inside of me because I know that I can overcome future challenges. I'm grateful.

Having a daily HABIT, even one small activity that you do EVERYDAY, keeps you TETHERED.

This is especially important if you're working your way through a major life change, such as a divorce or job loss.

Why?

Because when you're going through a challenging time, you can feel very chaotic, unbalanced, scattered, or ungrounded. Having something you commit to doing every day, helps with getting you anchored to a greater goal. It helps with getting you centered and grounded, out of overwhelm, and back in tune with yourself. This is the place from which better decisions are made.

Personally, I like feeling tethered to a daily habit. It provides a sense of normalcy, calm, and familiarity which is soothing to my nervous system (especially critical during times of upheaval and stress).

One of my daily habits is drinking hot water with lemon every morning and then doing a ten minute meditation in front of my red light lamp. It's a great way to start my day.

Do you THINK too much?

We're conditioned to justify, rationalize, analyze, and quantify our decisions. And while there's a time and place for that, it's not the whole way to make decisions or take action.

There's thinking.
And then there's feeling.

The tendency is to ask ourselves, "What do I think?"

Consider shifting to "What do I FEEL?"

This taps into your HEART instead of your mind.
This opens up a connection to your INTUITION instead of logic.
This will guide you towards what is most ALIGNED for you.

Last night in The Wisdom Collective we discussed how to get out of overwhelm.

Here are some key takeaways:

💛 Become aware - this is the first step to making a change. Ask yourself how overwhelm feels in your body and what behaviours you exhibit when you're overwhelmed. Once you recognize these signs, you can begin to break the pattern.

💛 Create a toolkit of strategies you can pull from to get yourself out of overwhelm to make it easier to start feeling calm and rational. These can be simple (yet powerful) tools such as taking 3 deep breaths, scanning your 5 senses, thinking about 1 thing you're grateful for, smelling some essential oils, or hugging a pet.

💛 Give yourself permission to: not feel guilty, take tasks off your to-do list, take 5 minutes to yourself in silence, know that you don't need to do it all, ask for help, go to bed early.

Remember, this is a journey, so give yourself lots of compassion and grace. Taking even tiny steps every day will result in huge benefits and changes over time.
