What is a Mixed Payment LC?
A Mixed Payment LC allows a part of the payment to be made immediately at sight, while the remainder is paid at a later date (after a certain period or upon acceptance of a bill of exchange).
It’s a great way to:

Example:
Suppose an exporter ships goods worth AED 367,000 under a Mixed Payment LC:

What is a Red Clause LC?

A Red Clause Letter of Credit (LC) is a type of LC that allows the beneficiary (usually the seller/exporter) to receive an advance payment from the issuing bank before shipping the goods.

The advance helps the seller cover costs like buying raw materials, manufacturing, or packing.

The term “red clause” comes from old practice: the clause was literally written in red ink in the LC to make it stand out.

How it Works

Buyer and seller agree on a Red Clause LC via a bank.
Seller requests an advance from the issuing bank (or confirming bank).
Bank pays advance (usually a percentage of total LC value) before shipment.
Seller ships goods and submits documents as usual.
Bank pays the balance after verifying the documents.

Key Features
Advance Payment: Helps the seller fund production or purchase of goods.
Conditional: The advance is usually deducted from the final payment.
Risk Consideration: The bank assumes risk if the seller doesn’t ship goods, the bank may lose the advance.
