My daughter was recommended to take foundation Math class next year and needed parental approval. It was a no-brainer. I signed immediately.

For me, strong basics is the key to true success.

The next day, her teacher called to “make sure I understood” what I had signed off on.

But instead of explaining why foundation was the right path, or how they were going to support her, she kept trying to "reassure" me that my daughter still had a chance to move to Standard if she scored above 75.

I had zero concerns but she was speaking like she was worried about me being angry or defensive.

Knowing that, I assured her, “It’s good... no point putting her in Standard class to widen the gap and have her suffer from the lack of understanding.” I could feel her relief after that.

It reminds me of my leadership lessons:

1. We project our fears onto others and sabotage the conversation.

She wasn’t nervous because of me.
She was nervous because of her past experiences with upset parents.

And instead of leading the conversation with clarity and confidence, she led it with fear and over-explanation.

This happens in sales all the time:

We expect objections…because of our own past rejections, not because the prospect actually has them.

When we project insecurity, prospect loses confidence in a deal that was already done.

People respond more to our energy, clarity and confidence than our words.

2. Foundation is a necessity, not a stupidity.

Too many parents treat foundation as if their child is “slow” or “not good enough.”

That is THEIR insecurity, not the child’s reality.

My daughter learns better through stories and play, not standard teaching structures. How is that “slow”?

A strong foundation is not a step back... it’s the step that prevents a house of card that looks good but can collapse anytime.

Same with leadership and business:

If your foundation is weak, it’s not a matter of if things fall apart, it’s when.
We have all seen the startups with big headlines and bigger funding went from being media darlings... to boom, gone overnight.
But the leaders who worked on fundamentals quietly, consistently outlast everyone who chased fame over substance.

3. Whatever we bury leaks into how we lead and communicate.

The teacher’s anxiety came from unprocessed fear of being questioned, blamed, and made wrong.

Anything we push under the carpet without addressing... insecurity, guilt, shame, fear shows up in our leadership and communication.

“Who am I?” A question that made me cry when I was a kid.

I didn’t know who I was, why I was here, or what the purpose of my existence was. Yes, the lost feeling was real.

Many of us ask that question at some point.
Few truly pursue the answer.

I did... unknowingly and am on an ongoing journey.

And one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is this:
The identity we’re attached to quietly drives everything... our beliefs, our behaviors, our fears, our dreams.

For most of us, identity is tied to what we do and what we have.
But when those things disappear, we panic...  because losing that identity feels like dying.

Our identity is like a mask we wear to show the world who we are.
It protects us. It keeps us safe.
And it also traps us. It blinds us from who we truly are underneath.

If I ask, “What do you do?” you’ll tell me your profession, your achievements, your roles.
But if I ask, “Who are you?” … I bet it would be tough to answer.

When I was first asked that question 20 years ago, I answered:
“I’m a daughter. A girlfriend. A financial services professional. I help people prepare for crisis and retirement.”

But that wasn’t me.
That was the mask I wore.

It took me years to learn, unlearn and relearn about myself.

Who am I today, after over two decades?

I am a free human being having common human experiences, living a full life.
I’m not my behavior but I get to choose how I behave as consciously as I can, knowing it impacts me and others.
I am my good, bad, and ugly.
I’m not the “nice, good girl” I once tried to be.

I am an entrepreneur, a rebel, a leader, a risk taker and a creator.
A wife. A daughter. A mother of three beautiful girls.
I am also my mother and father... their light and their shadows.

I am everything… and nothing at the same time.

And to me, that’s what true power and freedom look like.

Am I fully there yet? No.
But that’s my aspiration... to live fully free, to own all of me, and to meet my true potential.

Before we ask people to have more kids, maybe we should ask if they even like each other.

In developed countries like Singapore, the aging population is a growing concern:

Straining healthcare, social systems, and a shrinking workforce supporting a larger dependent base.

The government’s response? Encourage more births through:

Tax rebates, baby bonuses, parental leave all meant to provide reliefs for having more children.

But, that only solve the symptoms of the stress in rising costs.

Here's the real stress that no one wants to talk about:

Money isn’t the real barrier. Emotional disconnection is.

The richer we get, the lonelier we become.
We’ve built careers, portfolios, and lifestyles... but not the capacity to connect, to communicate, or to love without control or manipulation.

Over the years, I’ve spoken with countless people about their relationships... at work and at home.
Their struggles all sound different, but they boil down to the same thing:

Not getting what they want.
Not knowing what they want.
Not knowing how to ask for it.
Blaming each other when they don’t get it.

We mistake communication tactics for connection.
We perform sacrifice, niceness while resenting silently.
We stay in unhappy relationships hoping that having kids will fix the distance.

It doesn’t. It makes it worse.
Kids become collateral damage in our emotional avoidance.

No amount of baby bonuses can fix what emotional disconnection broke.

To me, having children is a privilege... not a strategy to make our relationship better (worst advice I have gotten).
If I can’t love, communicate, or take responsibility for my emotions, why would I bring another life into that?

Our aging population is not just a demographic issue.
It’s the byproduct of emotional poverty... generations who never learned how to love, connect while resolving conflicts responsibly.

So maybe the real question isn’t how to make parenting more affordable.
It’s how to learn what it takes to have a meaningful and connected relationship so we can live with each other more harmoniously.

After all, the quality of our relationship = quality of life.

Many parents say grades don’t matter, but their actions say otherwise.

It’s exam period. And many parents are anxious about how their kids will fare.

I get it.
You want the best for them. You don’t want them to lose out. You feel responsible for how they perform.

Two of my kids are having exams right now.
One is super concerned about her scores.
The other hates exams and doesn’t even know when hers are.

My eldest would update me after every practice paper... what she scored, what she got wrong.
Usually, I would tell her I’m proud of her, to just do her best.
I never really asked about her grades, yet she seemed worried about making careless mistakes.

This morning, after her concerned about her exam, I realised I had to say something more.

Here’s what I told her before she left:

Forget about the grades.
Your job is to understand the question and answer based on what you’ve learned.
The most important thing isn’t the grade... it’s whether you actually understand what you’re learning.
There’s no such thing as careless mistakes.
Be present. Focus on understanding, not assuming you already know.

On one hand, I am proud she wants to do well.
On the other, I see how the pressure from the system is shaping her and not always in healthy ways.

What’s the point of getting full marks from memory… if you don’t actually learn anything?

I would rather she make mistakes and learn from them, than chase perfect grades because that’s what’s expected.

I can’t change the school system.
But I don’t have to add to the undue pressure as a parent.

If I don’t model what real learning looks like, I can’t blame the school for not doing my job.

Many parents say grades don’t matter, but their actions say otherwise.

That’s why words are cheap.
The real test isn’t what we say.
It’s what we do with the words we speak.

I don't need them to be at the top of class. I am more interested in them being a decent human being who is responsible for their own results.

Are we teaching our kids to learn or to perform?

I thought I was disadvantaged because I had nothing.
But having nothing became my biggest strength.

No degree.
No family wealth.
No safety net.

At 16, I went to my school’s dinner and dance in my school T-shirt because I didn’t have decent clothes.
At 22, I had $0.10 in my pocket and chose to walk home while waiting for my first paycheck.
I entered financial services with zero backup plan purely on commission with zero based salary... just hunger and possibility.

At 30, I invested $500,000 into a passion project.
It collapsed.
A lawsuit wiped out $10 million, and everything I put in was gone.

At 31, I took over the project, pumped in even more to try to save the company, desperate and failed because I had no idea what I was doing other than I didn't want to give up because it was my dream project.
I started again from negative ground zero to continue the misison,
Asked for help.
Got ridiculed.
Kept going anyway.

Then came two abusive relationships... the kind that exaggerate my already beatened up confidence, identity, and sense of worth.
Threats.
Criticism.
Emotional abusive with nasty harrassment.

By then, I made two non-negotiables:

In relationships: I would rather be alone than be with someone I’m not aligned with.
In business: I will only do work that makes my heart sing while make money doing it. I refuse to sell my soul for “security.”

At 36, my mother and my female role model died a week apart.
While dying in LA, my role model still sent her regards when she heard about my mother’s passing.
That broke me open... not down. Her heart never closed despite facing her own death.

The same year my now-husband and I connected.
We now have three beautiful kids and have built our businesses while traveling the world for years.

And in between all of that?
Failed partnerships.
Failed teams.
Failed projects.
Each one forcing me to confront my blind spots and grow into the leader I needed to become.

Here’s the part that I learned:

Having nothing multiple times my biggest privilege.
It stripped away my illusions, ego and feeling of entitlement.
It gave me more courage because I had nowhere to fall.

So many people fear losing everything.
But when you’ve lost everything multiple times, you stop fearing loss... and that's when real transformation begins.

Every obstacle is my stepping stone to grow exponentially.
Every failure showed me what I didn’t know.
Every collapse forced me to rise higher than before.

So yes... the thing I used to think was my greatest disadvantage…became the foundation of my strength.

Every lie we tell our children teaches them one thing: that truth is unsafe.

My 11-year-old said to me:

“My friend asked me to lie to you about something she wants us to do.”

Instead of making her or her friend wrong,
I asked, “How would you feel if you lied?”
She said, “Guilty.”

I told her, “The issue with lying isn’t about being good or bad... it’s about how it makes you feel. You have to decide if that’s something you want to carry.”

It reminded me of a video I watched where parents did a humorous take about lying to their kids eating snacks that looks like fruit so that the kids will want to eat more fruit.
And yet, these same parents get angry when their kids lie to them.

Here's what I found: The kids are smarter and more intuitive than we give them credit. They observed and feel before they start to get numb from being made wrong about what they observed.

The question is who are they learning how to lie from? Their role models.

Here’s what I’ve learned... not just in parenting, but in leadership:
👉 People project.

When someone lies, they trust less and they project that onto you.
It’s not really about you being untrustworthy.
It’s that they don’t trust themselves.

This isn’t about being perfect.
It’s about being self-aware.

Without self-awareness, three things usually happen:

1️⃣ You believe what you want to believe instead of seeing the accurate picture and end up frustrated.
2️⃣ You can’t lead effectively because you can’t see how people respond to your blind spots.
3️⃣ Your confidence takes a hit  because your lack of awareness limits who and what you can attract.

In both parenting and leadership, awareness is power.
Once you see how your actions create your results, you get to choose differently.

If you don’t want your kids (or your team) to lie, the last thing you want to do is shame them for it, especially if you’re doing it yourself.

Kids lie when they don’t feel safe.
And they don’t do what you say... they do what you do.

If you want peace of mind and trust, do what you’re proud of. Be consistent, be humble and willing to apologize with the right people.
And drop the double standard.

“I’m successful… but my kid won’t talk to me.”

We hear this more often than not from successful leaders.

It’s easy to believe we are doing the right thing... building a career, growing a business, securing our family’s future. But what happens when you finally reach the success you worked so hard for… and the child you love and work so hard for barely looks at you unless they want something from you?

How would you feel?

Most leaders describe the same things:

“It feels like it was all for nothing.”
“Misunderstood.”
“Frustrated.”
“Exhausted.”
“Lonely.”

And in the worst cases, the cost becomes irreversible.

A private equity partner climbed to the top of his industry... only to lose his two teenage sons to suicide within a year. Another mother dedicated her entire life to her daughter... only to have her felt too suffocated that the girl left for another country, fell into abuse, and when confided in her, felt blamed and ended up in suicide too.

It's not about them being good or bad parents.
These are parents who thought they were doing the right thing but were never given the tools.

Because our system does not teach us how to be whole, emotionally healthy, integrated, human beings. It teaches us to separate our work life and home life. To sacrifice one to succeed in the other. To hold everything together on the outside while falling apart inside.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

What if nothing is “too late”… and all you need is a new way of seeing, leading, and connecting... one bridge at a time?

You deserve better.
Your children deserve better.
And your success should not come at the cost of your relationships.

Nobody prepares you for this part of leadership:

How to tell the difference between a C Player (the blamer) and an A Player (the responsible one)?

If you can recognize them and learn to lead them differently, you’ll achieve more with less… without burning out.

Here’s the truth:

When someone blames you for their problem, no amount of logic will get them to stop.
Because blamers don’t want solutions they want power and blame is emotional manipulation disguised as feedback.

I have been both.
The blamer and the one who used logic to defend myself.
Neither got me what I wanted.

When I blamed, I gave my power away... waiting for someone else to fix my problem.
When I defended with logic, I fought the wrong fight because blamers aren’t interested in logic, only in shaming you until you cave.

Both end in frustration. Nobody wins.

The fast track out?

👉 Validate their feelings but don’t take the blame.

For example:

When your team member blames you for unclear communication, ask yourself 
Was it truly unclear, or are they avoiding ownership?

If you were unclear:

“Thanks for pointing that out I didn’t realize it wasn’t clear. Let’s clarify to make your job easier.”

If you were clear:

“I’m sorry it wasn’t clear to you. Let’s go through it again so you can get the job done easily.”

A responsible team member (A Player) will ask clarifying questions at the very first opportunity.
A blamer (C Player) will deflect and play tit-for-tat by finding fault in you so you can’t hold them accountable.

What do you do when you lead people who deflect accountability?

“I’m doing all the right things, getting what I want… but why don’t I feel any different?”

This is one of the most common and quietly painful experiences among successful leaders.

You do everything “right.”
You follow the rules.
You hit the goals.
People admire you, praise you, even envy you…

Yet privately, you don’t feel how you thought you would feel and in front of people, you feel like you need to keep up to the image which is tiring.

For many, it goes one of two ways:

1. A temporary high when others admire what you’ve achieved and tell you how great you are.
2. A quiet sense of incongruence or imposter syndrome because your outer success doesn’t match your inner experience.

Here’s what most people never talk about:

There’s nothing wrong with you.
In fact… how could you feel different?

We have been trained for performance, not for fulfillment; for output, not for wholeness; for survival, not for aliveness.

Performance, output and survival, that's the mold we are trained to fit in.

When your life is built on pressure, rules, fear, or conformity, something gets trained out of you:
You start doubting your brilliance.
You shrink parts of yourself to fit the mold.
You succeed externally while going emotionally numb internally and sometimes questioning your existence.

Then midlife hits.
Or success hits.
And suddenly the formula that worked no longer works.

I had my “quarter life crisis” at 28.
I reached the point where making money for the sake of making money felt empty.
And I didn’t know what a meaningful life looked like until I met role models who helped me see my own version.

But here’s the real challenge that got in the way during the process:
Not the external world.
The internal saboteur the self-doubt, inner critic, fear, guilt, the feeling of not being enough. Is this even possible for me?

Facing that was painful at the beginning because who wants to face all that?
But the more I embrace that as part of the journey to true freedom and power, it became my fast track to the freedom most people only dream about.

Because when I stopped clinging on to what no longer serves me…
When I stopped waiting for permission…
When I stopped letting fear and doubt dictate my choices…

I realize something powerful:

When I know I have nothing to lose, that’s when I gain the most... and I don’t have to sacrifice one area of life to succeed in another.

For years, I have been called too aggressive in sales.

At first, I took it personally and felt suppressed.

When I talk to people, I’m not here to waste anyone’s time.
I would happily support them even at no cost and often did while getting little in return.

I went through feelings of misunderstood, unappreciated, frustrated, and doubts.
But ultimately, I was the one who chose it.
And if I wanted something different, it had to start with me.

My intention has always been clear:
To help people overcome their challenges and fast-track their goals, only if they are open.

Over time, I realized something:
When you’re passionate about helping people see what they can’t see and rise beyond their limits... with the wrong people, it will look aggressive.

For example, one thing I “sell” is this:
💡 Helping leaders win in money, relationships, and health without trade-offs.
To me, that’s true success, a life worth living.

Many don’t believe it and are skeptical. I get that, it's not common.
Some say, “Of course you’d say that... you are just trying to sell something.”

They’re right.
I am selling something.

I’m selling the idea that you don’t have to keep settling for:

Misery disguised as “responsibility”
Sacrificing yourself for everyone else’s comfort
Less than you deserve
Approval instead of sovereignty

So yes... I’m selling the possibility that you can have everything you want with confident and certainty, if you’re willing to learn, unlearn and relearn what you don’t yet know.

But it all starts with a decision:

✨ Give yourself permission to want it... and stop waiting for someone else to hand it to you.

Will it be all smooth once you decide?
No.

When you choose what you truly want, everything you’ve avoided surfaces. It didn’t suddenly appear... it was always there.

If you are worried about:

Loved ones might get upset (but haven’t they been over trivial matters?)
Feeling out of control (but how much control do you really have now?)
Losing what you have (but what about losing resentment, frustration, and gaining control and freedom instead?)

Here’s what I learned committing to my version of true success:
When I faced what scared me the critics, the doubts, the voice that said, “Who do you think you are?” they lost their power.

That’s when I stopped trying to depend on external power… and actually owned my true power.

So next time you complain about something, remember this:
If you complain just to release tension, the problem still owns you.
If you face it, you own it.

Yes... I’m selling you your power.
Because when you own your power, no one else can.

Most people think peace of mind and security comes from having “extra money.”
It’s the biggest myth I’ve seen in 30 years of working with investors and leaders.

I hear this all the time:

“When I have surplus, then I can make this decision. If I lose it, it won’t hurt as much.”

Wrong.
That mindset keeps people stuck.

Rich or poor has nothing to do with how much money you have.
It’s how you think about money and what you value from your purchase.

Poor-thinking pays for immediate relief, minimum effort, and short-term comfort.
Rich-thinking pays to save time, reduce risk, improve quality, grow and protect their future.

And here’s the truth most people don’t want to believe:

More money does not give you peace of mind.
It magnifies who you already are.

I once worked with a billionaire client who worried constantly about one thing:
Late payments from their customers.

This is how they chased their receivables:

“Where’s my payment?”
“When are you going to pay?”
“You’re late again.”

They shamed people into paying, felt taken advantage of, and woke up every day expecting the worst.

A billionaire… losing sleep over invoices?

Not because they couldn’t afford the losses.

But because money doesn’t erase insecurity. It exposes it.

People assume wealthy people have unlimited budgets and no stress.
But even our own Prime Minister Lawrence Wong once said the hardest part of running the country as a Finance Minister was:

“Money not enough.”

Not because Singapore is poor.
But because budgeting is not about being cheap.
It’s about allocating resources wisely so the whole system works.

That’s what we helped successful clients do... build a system that reduced emotional stress, not just financial risk.

We sat down with the billionaire client, helped them understood their clients better, and created win-win solutions with their customers:

Some found a solution to pay immediately.
Some caught up over time.
And they learned the difference between people genuinely struggling vs. people trying to take advantage of them.

The result?
Less anxiety.
Better long term relationships.
More ease in collections and losses minimized.

Their peace of mind didn’t come from having more money.
It came from managing their emotions around money.

And here’s the biggest learning:

Money doesn’t change you.
It amplifies you.

If you’re grounded, more money expands your capacity.
If you’re insecure, more money exaggerates the insecurity.

Peace of mind has nothing to do with surplus.
It comes from having the emotional maturity and systems to manage money powerfully... at any level.

What got you here was discipline. What will get you there is clarity.

You don't need discipline. My coach said to me.

That's not because I am a discipline person. It's because he knows that when discipline is needed to create consistency, it would require more force than necessary.

How often do we beat ourselves up for not doing what we know we should?
And then say, “I just need to be more disciplined.”

If we are able to discipline ourselves, we would have already done it.

Here's what I learned the hard way:

You can be disciplined on the wrong thing and still not get results.

Years ago, I was desperate to close a deal.
I made 50 calls a day.
Sometimes 100.
I worked hard, I pushed myself, I told myself as long as I made enough call, someone would say yes. But the harder I pushed, the worse I felt.

The problem?

My energy was desperate (I psyhed myself mentally to not come across as desperate and needy).
My confidence dropped.
No matter how “disciplined” I was, it came through in my tone, my words, my presence.

My coach helped me see what was really happening:
I wasn’t taking action from clarity and power.. I was reacting.
My focus wasn’t on the vision. It was on avoiding and worried about failing.

My lesson:

If I focus on not failing, discipline becomes a struggle.
For the effort to feel effortless, I needed to know where I was heading (vision).

It’s like trying to climb Mount Everest while only worrying about surviving before I reach the base camp.
Energy from survival mindset comes from fear of losing or dying. Hence, the feeling of needing to be saved or rescue. This is repulsive and unattractive regardless of how great your offer is.

Maybe, just maybe…
You don’t need more discipline.
You need a vision that’s so alive it pulls you forward instead of forcing you to push.

I have been underestimated most of my life and that used to trigger my self-doubt.
Now, it fuels me.

I used to be the quiet one.
The one who did my work, stayed in my lane, and only interested in my own results.

When I wanted something, I didn’t talk about it...I just went for it.
But instead of respect, I often got overlooked.

I resented it. I wondered why people couldn’t see me.
But I also refused to play politics or over-promote myself... it just didn’t feel like me.

For years, I gave people the benefit of the doubt. When I was wrong, I apologized. When they were wrong, they flipped it and made me question myself.

That was one of my toughest leadership lessons:
When you don’t own your power, someone else will use it against you.

20 years ago, I was inspired to work towards being a conscious leader. A leader who is aware of how their action and behavior impact others positively or negatively. To do that, it requires me to keep my heart open.

It has been tough as I have my fair share of feeling ashamed of not delivering what I said I would and being hurt by all kinds of accusation while working through my flaws and faults.

I also learned that being a conscious leader doesn’t mean being endlessly patient.
It means keeping your heart open while knowing when to draw the line.

Because every time I let someone take advantage of me or made me question myself while doing my best to work with them, I was quietly communicating to myself that it was okay to be bullied and I’d attract more of it while my productivity gets impacted.

Despite being underestimated, I have always been fiesty. When I am clear what I am going for, I don't give up easily.
As I evolved, I don’t fight to prove myself.
I fight to regain my power, clarity and sanity.

And yes... when people realize they can’t manipulate me anymore, they’ll say I’m heartless.
That’s ok.
Their comfort is not my responsibility.

My biggest lesson:
You can be kind without being a pushover.
You can be open-hearted and set boundaries.
When a bully can't get away with what they can get from you (many times pretending to be a victim), they will paint you as a big villain.

Science taught me more about leadership than I imagine. If I can see the effect, I can trace the cause. If I can trace the cause, I can transform my results.

For years, I thought I wasn’t a “science person.”
I used to fall asleep in Physics class, until my teacher, Mr. Ravi, threw a chalkboard duster at me to wake me up. 😂

I survived a miserable year in Biotechnology course studying Biochemistry, Immunology, and Microbiology with glazed eyes and feeling stupid at most classes.

Until recently when I saw how deeply science applies to leadership and transformation.

One aspect of Science is about cause and effect.
If I can see the effect, I can work backwards to learn about the cause.
And when I can see the cause clearly, I can change my results.

Here’s the part most people miss:
They think leading people is an art.
It’s not... it’s science.

Which means people are far more predictable than most realize.
Patterns of behavior follow patterns of thinking.
Patterns of thinking come from a set of beliefs.
Change the beliefs, and the emotional pattern shifts.
When our emotional pattern shifts, our actions change as a result.
This is when the performance truly transform with ease and flow.

Most people say, “I’ll believe it when I see it.”
But the successful leaders who keep innovating and getting ahead of the curve say: “I’ll see it when I believe it.”

Belief shapes perception.
Perception shapes behavior.
Behavior shapes results.

Understanding that allowed me to work through my blame (the part of me that kept attracting similar results and people). It helped me to see how my deep seeded beliefs led to certain behaviour and triggers that led to my self-doubt and low confidence.
Once I could see it accurately, I could change it.
And when I did, confidence, clarity, and results all happened almost instantly.

Because like science, leadership isn’t about luck.
It’s about understanding cause and effect and taking ownership of both.

The next time your results plateau, don’t push harder, use it to work backwards to see what belief had been driving you and your behavior.

What’s one pattern you’ve noticed keeps repeating no matter how hard you try to change it?

If you want your kids to feel small, insecure, or “not good enough,” here’s exactly what to say:

Why aren’t you like your brother/sister/cousin/neighbor/friend?
Why do you keep making the same careless mistakes?
How many times must I tell you?
Why can’t you get it right?
You should know better.
Stop embarrassing me.

It sounds harsh written out, but many parents say these daily without realizing how deeply they cut.

We justify it with good intentions, but good intentions with bad execution still create more damage than we would like to.

Kids form beliefs about themselves based on their interpretation of what you say to them.

My biggest wake-up call working towards a being a conscious parenting and leadership:

I had to face the fact that my intention doesn’t matter if the outcome is the opposite of what I want.

When something isn’t working, I have three choices:

1. Blame others and demand they change
2. Hope things get better
3. Change my part in the dynamic so the outcome changes

Option 3 is the only one that consistently gives control, power, freedom and minimize frustration, stress and burnout.

The parenting-leadership parallel nobody talks about:

My kids reflect my leadership style... just like teams do.

When I’m permissive, always saying yes to avoid conflict, they stop respecting boundaries… and I end up resentful.

When I’m authoritarian, trying to control behavior with punishment, pressure or reward, they become anxious, overly compliant, or rebel when I’m not looking.

But when I’m authoritative... clear yes, clear no, space for emotions, firm guidance and understanding... they show confidence, honesty, respect and perform better.

Leadership works the exact same way.

Your team reflects your emotional state, your boundaries, your insecurities, and your clarity.
If you don’t consciously lead the dynamic, you leave the outcome to chance and someone else ends up leading. If no one takes charge, the lowest common denominator tend to be the one. Hence gossips and negativities spread the fastest and impact the team morale the most.

This is the part most leaders overlook:

You can’t claim to be intentional while operating unconsciously.

If you’re not consciously leading the outcome, you’re unconsciously creating the one you don’t want.

What if your worst moments are the universe’s way of realigning you?

Negativity... a friend I befriended from a young age.

Whenever things didn’t go the way I liked, my default was to overanalyze, self-criticize, and blame myself.

I only knew two ways to deal with it:
1️⃣ Deny my feelings and force things through.
2️⃣ Overindulge in them and spiral downwards.

Recently, I had a series of setbacks that triggered that old pattern again.
One thing piled onto another, and I found myself overwhelmed... doing my best to manage what I could, trying to control what I could hoping that I could get the outcome that I wanted.

It wasn’t the first time this happened and it reminds me of my lesson:
It’s not the situation that limits the flow it’s my judgment of it.
My insistence on labeling it as “bad” or “good,” and my need to control the outcome.

It reminded me of one of my favorite stories:

A Chinese farmer’s horse ran away.
The neighbors said, “That’s terrible.”
The next day, the horse returned with seven wild horses. “How lucky!” they said.
Then his son broke his leg taming one of them. “How unfortunate,” they said.
The next day, soldiers came to draft young men for war but skipped his son because of the broken leg. “How fortunate!” they said.
The farmer simply replied each time: “Maybe.”

We are quick to label experiences as bad when they don’t go our way, and good when they do but that binary thinking traps us.

Over the years, every time I learned to let go of my fixation and chose to see things as they are, and turned obstacles into purpose, life always unfolded in my favor... just not in the way I expected.

If Andrew John Harrison 🍀 hadn’t changed his flight on SQ006 (which crashed on a closed runway at Taiwan’s Chiang Kai-shek Airport) to have a difficult conversation with his ex-partner, I might never have met him 20 years ago. My entire life would have been different.

Letting go of control has been one of my toughest leadership lessons.
And yet, every single time I do, things work out better than what I imagined.

I learned to trust the flow (as an active participant not like a dead fish being passive while flow down the stream)... to do my part, but release my grip on how it should be.

Whether you believe it or not, life often gives us what we need to grow, not what we want to control.

I used to think I was just ‘bad with time management. Turns out, I was addicted to drama.

No matter how hard I tried to be on time, I would rush, stress, and somehow still arrive late, or barely on time.

I would have all sort of reasons and excuses why I was late.

It was frustrating. I knew better, yet I couldn’t change it.

We all know what it takes to be “successful”:
Make fast decisions.
Be on time.
Communicate well.
Have emotional intelligence.

Yada yada.

You probably already roll your eyes by now reading that because most people know what to do. The real problem is how many actually apply it.

I used to beat myself up for being late.
I’d think: “What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I just be more disciplined?”

The more I judged myself, the harder it got.
And when others called me out, I’d get defensive and angry with them. 😅 

Learning more didn’t help. It made me feel more stupid. I should have known better.
Unlearning did.

When my coach helped me see the truth, I realized something not so pleasant:

👉 I got energy from drama and emergency.

If there was no crisis or pushed, I had no energy to act.
That rush... that “last-minute push” was my comfort zone.

It felt familiar because that’s how I grew up: An environment where drama, reacting, arguments, problems, and blame were part of my daily lives.

Without seeing that truth, I only had two options:
1️⃣ Keep repeating the same pattern.
2️⃣ Overcontrol everything and burn out trying to fix it.

Both lead to burnout, lack of ability to enjoy what we do and waste of more time as I would get distracted easily.

It wasn’t until I learned to move from force to flow that life started to shift.
I realized growth is less about putting in more effort... but the right effort, at the right thing like a leverage. Trying to put in more effort on the wrong thing takes more effort but minimum results.

It sounded too good to be true at the beginning, but I chose to believe that it's possible.
Because the worst that could happen? I would go back to the chaos I already knew.

Looking back, investing in learning more about leverage and applying that in all areas of my life is the best investment that keep me sane, less burnout and have the energy to do what I truly want.

Everyone wants a breakthrough until it starts breaking them.

Here’s what no one tells you about breakthroughs and transformation:
It never comes at the time you expect, in the way you want, or when it’s convenient.

In fact it's the totally opposite... when you feel like the world is going against you but you decided to face what you finally need to face.

If you want to plan for transformation, you’re in delusion.

We all say we want transformation but few are prepared to walk through the fire and rise out of it.
It’s like wanting to go to heaven but refusing to die.

Our education and society trained us to think linearly.
That’s why transformation is so rare, the very thinking that once brought us success is now our glass ceiling.

For many years, we gave full of people this two choices:

1️⃣ Receive $1,000/month for 20 years
2️⃣ Receive $1/month compounded monthly for 20 years

Most will say they’d choose No. 2... but in real life, almost everyone chooses No. 1.

Why?
Because linear thinking blinds us to the power of exponential growth and being ready emotionally to go through the process.

After 20 years:
With No. 1, you get $240,000.
With No. 2, you get $6,291,456.

That’s the cost of thinking small and being attached to what we are familiar with, it feels safe, but it keeps you stuck in survival and security mode that might look like success but limited growth.

There’s a lily pond story that explains this perfectly:
If a lily pond will be fully covered in 30 days, on which day is it half-covered, starting with 1 lily?

Linear thinking says: day 15.
Exponential thinking says: day 29.

That’s why transformation feels impossible until right before the breakthrough, usually in situation that forced us to face what we have not been willing to face.

The first 28 days are the hardest.
You’re testing, failing, learning, and doubting yourself while the world looks like they are all moving on.

That’s where most people quit, on day 5, 10, 25, or 28…
Just before the exponential curve takes off.

The key is to unlearn and rewire your mind to think exponentially. The more I embrace the power of exponential, trust myself and let go of my linear thinking:

The less I react to noise.
The more I choose mastering timing, momentum, and energy and get in the zone.
The more I am able to optimize with confidence and certainty.

If you don’t have a vision, you are not leading… you are just following better than others.

We were working with a group of Founders get clear on their vision, and one of the first questions asked before they shared their vision was:

“What’s the toughest part during the process of coming up with your vision?”

I shared mine:

1. The toughest part is allowing myself to imagine what’s possible if I know I have a choice and that nothing is going to stop me.
2. Do I even believe I can have that in the first place?

In order for a vision to drive action and results, it needs to be compelling, it has to move us emotionally.
If it doesn’t, it’s just a fantasy, good idea or good to have.

Without vision, we are essentially walking dead… at the effect of a bunch of lies society sold us about what’s “good” or “right.”

Here are some of what we are being sold:

↪️ The beauty standards that tell women to be skinny and men to have six-packs (99% of us will feel like we can never measure up).
↪️ That owning property equals security (we are a failure or loser if we don't own a property).
↪️ That hustle equals success (if I don't hustle, I am lazy).
↪️ That money and fame are the new gods… the ultimate measure of success and worth (the halo effect is real! Their fans get blinded by that and think they are god send).
↪️ That “Happy wife, happy life” is peace… when in reality, it’s fear and avoidance of punishment and upset that have the husband caving in. But there's no real connection.)

Yes, I’m going to ruffle some feathers here.
Most people don’t realize how deeply they’ve been programmed to chase fantasies that look good on the outside but leave them quietly miserable.

When was the last time you imagined what you truly want… not what you think others might approve of?

Allowing myself to imagine beyond what I think is possible and choosing what I want was the best thing I’ve ever done for myself.

To do that, I first had to question what’s been driving me the beliefs that shaped how I saw success, safety, self-worth and self-worth.
And that’s where most people stop because that’s where it gets uncomfortable.

But here’s the truth:
If you can’t get through that discomfort of being wrong, nothing changes.
Your life just becomes a loop of the same stories, with slightly better packaging.

It takes courage to dream.
Because it takes courage to admit you might have been wrong about what you thought was right for you.

That’s where true freedom begins.

If you don’t have a vision, you’re not really choosing.
