A few things I believe in: - Velocity is key. Fast execution enables more learning per unit of time by increasing interactions with reality. - Small teams win. They allow for quicker decisions, fewer meetings, and more enjoyment without the need to fragment work for political reasons. No room for mediocrity. - Only the laws of physics set the limit: “I have learned to use the word impossible with the greatest of caution." Werner Von Braun - There are two ways to reduce economic inequality: 1. You can work to lift up the floor 2. Or, work to lower the ceiling I personally prefer to work towards lifting the floor. - The root cause of all your problems is that you haven’t found your life’s work yet. Once you do, most questions disappear. - Fight entropy. A product that doesn’t improve degrades. It's always day 1. - Relentlessly add value to great people in my network. - End-to-end ownership in everything I do. - Default to trust. Always approach problems with intellectual maturity. Give credit in public and criticize in private. - Pursue responsibility and impact over status. --- Below, you'll find projects I've managed, academic degrees I've obtained, startups I've grown, and the unconventional path my journey has paved. If you're keen to dive into the world of startups, I share insights from the frontlines every few weeks in my newsletter or here on LinkedIn. Just read a great essay on a recurring pattern in the lives of the greats: the annus mirabilis—a miracle year when everything seems to click. My notes below: - Great minds often have one miracle year. Different fields, same pattern: a short burst of prolific, career-defining output. - It’s not random. These aren’t just statistical flukes. Studies show annus mirabilis years are 3–4x more productive than average even among elite scientists. - Three key ingredients: 1. Right problem, right time. A new paradigm opens up, and the smartest minds grab all the low-hanging fruit before others catch on. 2. Youth + freedom. Peak fluid intelligence, unburdened by obligations, yet skilled enough to make original contributions. 3. No distractions. Success brings responsibilities, families, committees, grants, and speaking gigs, that pull you away from deep work. - Obligations are the enemy of breakthroughs. Von Neumann went from writing a paper a month to advising governments. Einstein got stuck chasing quantum ghosts. Most never return to their peak. - Some people dodge this fate. Feynman is a good example that avoided status traps and stayed productive. - We’re doing it wrong. If miracle years matter so much, we should optimize for them. That means: • Give young people time, space, and big problems. • Reduce bureaucratic overhead. • Shield them from prestige-chasing and committee work. - Modern academia is built backwards. The PhD system is structured to produce compliance, not breakthroughs. The miracle year almost never happens under its constraints.
