When I grow up / I want to be / a superorganism. In the meantime I help organisations face the future by building places for creative collaboration. I lead teams that apply systems, futures and design thinking to bring products and services all the way from invention through to scale. I started out in design & technology as the Web was being born, and have over 20 years'​ leadership experience in product development and R&D labs across industry and academia, as well as for innovative startups in Sydney and Silicon Valley. I publish and speak internationally on collaborative creativity and innovation. I've convinced boards to invest in audacious ideas and deliver killer products, built collaborations across organisations and nations, presented in the largest conference hall on earth and assembled massive, powerful creative communities. My favourite tools: first principles, transdisciplinary curiosity, contextual enquiry, creative selection, experimental mindset, informed iteration. Salient questions: local VS global maxima, risk of inaction and cost of delay, aggregation theory and platform economics, pervasive computing, ethics by design. I lead creative teams by example: in 2002 I led the company that delivered the first 1cm resolution 3D earth over the web. I co-founded SIGGRAPH Asia, a major international conference on computer graphics and interactive techniques. At the ABC I co-authored the Innovation and Experimentation Strategy and broke silos to launch rule-breaking initiatives. At CHOICE I led product and service innovation to help a 60-year old institution rediscover its pioneering legacy. At CSIRO I have the honour of leading a team of engineers, designers and researchers working to reinvent science itself. I'm not driven by a certainty that I have the answers; rather by curiosity about the questions and the delight in finding creative solutions. V.
