“For someone who doesn’t like people, you sure have a very people-centered job.” — A friend, summing me up perfectly. For years, I thought I was just... different. I didn’t dislike people. But I found the idea of constant interaction overwhelming. Yet, I had close friends and valued deep connections. So the issue wasn’t with people at all. It turns out, there’s a word for this: Introvert. When I stepped into leadership, that same friend made the above comment. And for a moment, I believed them. After all, leadership is often seen as a role for the loud, outgoing, and “always-on” types. But over time, I realized that being introverted isn’t a barrier to leading. It’s an asset. I’ve embraced my strengths as an introverted, empathetic, and people-focused leader. Along the way, I’ve learned that leadership isn’t about fitting into a mold. It’s about authenticity, connection, and care. I started sharing my journey on LinkedIn for three reasons: 1. To step outside my comfort zone. 2. To remind others who feel “different” that they’re not alone. 3. To create meaningful conversations with like-minded leaders.
