I’m grateful for the dark days I survived

I’m grateful for the setbacks I pulled myself through

I’m grateful for the failures that once made me feel small, but eventually made me stronger.

It wasn’t easy though

There were days I cried in silence before a session, wondering if I was enough.

There were moments when rejection felt like proof that I didn’t belong.

And there were nights I questioned if this path was even worth it.

But those dark days taught me a lot:

2023: I failed in front of 30 senior trainers

Let me take you back.

📍2023, Train the Trainer program
I was supposed to present a module
Sounds simple, right? 
But not for me

It was my first time presenting. My confidence was already broken from personal struggles. And the minute I stood up, I froze.

→ Went blank when questioned
→ I couldn't explain the concept
→ Gave wrong answers out of pure panic

I failed the test.

Sach main, that room felt like a courtroom. 
And I was guilty of not being good enough.

I walked out thinking, ‘Maybe training is not for me’

But then I remembered something.

This wasn't my first failure.

Engineering? 

Failed 4 subjects in the first two years. 

Cleared them all eventually.

✅So I did what I knew how to do: 
 
I prepared like my career depended on it.

And a couple of months later, I passed.

That failure taught me more than the certification ever could:

→ Confidence comes from preparation, not pretending
→ Clients will hijack your session with tough questions 
→ If you nail the concept clarity, you’ll survive 
→ Failure isn't the end, giving up is

That day, I learned something trainers don't talk about enough:

You'll bomb, blank out, and even feel like a fraud

But if you prepare, persist, and stay humble,

You'll come back stronger.

“I still prefer in-person training.” 

Cool, but can your model scale without burning cash or carbon?

The best training I ever delivered?

Nobody traveled for it. Zero flights, zero hotels, zero carbon guilt. 

And the engagement was higher than most in-person workshops I've done.

Yet, we still treat in-person training like it's the gold standard. 

If people are not in a room together, learning doesn't count.

Meanwhile:

🔻Multiply by 50 people = climate damage for ONE workshop 
🔻Add venue energy, printed handouts, and daily commutes

For content that could've been delivered better online.

What online-first training actually looks like:

✅People learn better when they're not exhausted from travel.

We need to stop pretending that in-person is always better.

Respect is a universal language. But in India, it could sound like:
“Ji, Sir”  “Madam bola toh karna hi padega”

Or just… staying silent.

In Germany, interrupting someone mid-sentence is rude.
In India, it means you're engaged.

Both think they're being respectful.

I learned this the hard way during a global training session. 

The German client thought my Indian team was dismissive. 
My team thought the Germans were cold.

Same intention. 
Totally different execution.

I've seen this play out across cultures:

↳In India: 
Hierarchy is respect, "Sir" matters
Saying "no" softly = polite.

↳In the US: 
Directness is respect
Being clear = being professional

↳In Japan: 
Silence is respect. 
Not interrupting = valuing someone's words.

🔰POLITENESS ACROSS CULTURES:

Indian: "I'll try my best" (might mean no) 
German: "That won't work" (not rude, just honest) 
British: "That's interesting" (might mean they hate it)

🔰FEEDBACK STYLES:

Indians soften feedback with context. 
Dutch give it direct and blunt. 
Japanese wrap it in subtlety.

None of it is wrong

But if you're expecting respect to sound like YOUR culture...
You'll miss it everywhere else.

Before you label someone’s tone as “rude” or “cold”

Ask yourself this:
"Is this disrespectful, or just their way of showing respect?"

Because the best global professionals don’t change who they are.
They adapt how they communicate.

2. Reskilling isn’t optional, it’s urgent:
Accenture says they will try to retrain people. 
But training isn’t enough if we don’t also work on adaptability, emotional intelligence, communication, and presence.

3. Human skills are on thin ice:
When jobs are rethought, you can’t be replaced by a machine. 
So what makes you uniquely human? 

Empathy, curiosity, creativity, relational trust.

We have 7 different ways to say the same thing, and we're picking the wrong one every single time.

I don’t usually talk about this. 

But behind every session I lead is a version of me that almost didn’t survive.

At 25, I got married.
Everyone said I was “settled.”
But inside that home, I was falling apart.

Because abuse doesn’t always scream. 

Kabhi kabhi woh itna silent hota hai that you start to believe maybe I deserve this.

So, I stayed.

Because I thought leaving meant I failed.

When I ask candidates, ‘Tell me about yourself,’ 90% of them make one of two mistakes:

1.⁠ ⁠They recite their CV
(The interviewer has already read it)

(Hoping something, anything, will land)

Both miss the point.

Interviewers don’t want your life story.  

They're testing your ability to communicate clearly and connect your experience to their needs.

That’s why I teach this 90-second intro framework:

Part 1: The Present (≈ 20 sec)

Who are you right now? 

Give a snapshot of your current role, title, and primary focus.

Eg. I'm currently a Senior Marketing Manager at Acme Corp, where I lead our digital demand generation.

Part 2: The Past (≈ 40 sec)

How did you get here? 

Connect the dots from your relevant past experiences. Pick 2 highlights that scream "I'm perfect for this role."

Eg. In my previous roles, I scaled a B2B startup's lead flow by 300% and managed a product launch that captured a 15% market share.

Part 3: The Future (≈ 30 sec)

Why are you here? 

State why you want this job and how you'll add immediate value.

Eg. I was excited to see this position because it perfectly aligns with my experience in both demand gen and product marketing, and I'm confident I can bring that same success to your team.

I’ve trained in rooms where people speak English, but think in Marathi, Hindi, Bengali, Tamil

Same company, same goals, but completely different communication styles.

We love patting ourselves on the back for being diverse. 

But when a South Indian team feels a North Indian manager is "too aggressive," or a Gen Z employee thinks their Gen X boss is "dismissive", we call it a "communication gap."

When really it's India's invisible boardroom barrier.

Because while communicating, you’re navigating:

Here's my 3A’s of Cross-cultural communication framework:

1. Awareness:
Recognize that your communication style is shaped by region, generation, and upbringing. It's not universal.

2. Adaptation:
Match your message to your audience. One style doesn't fit all rooms.

3. Ask:
When in doubt, clarify:
What does yes mean here?
How do you prefer feedback?
What's the protocol for disagreement?

India's diversity is incredible. 

But if we are not actively learning to communicate across cultures, not just languages, we're wasting it.

I once watched a company spend almost ₹2 crores on an AI tool nobody used. 

The tech was brilliant, but 

The rollout was a disaster. 

They focused 100% on the tool's capabilities and 0% on the team's fears. 

People whispered:

"Will this replace me?"
"Should I start job hunting?"
"Is this just cost-cutting in disguise?"

I’ve coached dozens of leaders through AI transitions.

Here’s the 4-step framework I now teach to fear-proof every rollout: 

1. Address the elephant first. 
Start by saying, "I know new tech can be unsettling. 
Let's talk about what this means, for us, as people." Acknowledging the fear directly is the only way to dissolve it. 

2. Position it as a "Co-pilot," not a "Replacement." 
Show them how the tool will remove repetitive tasks, so they can focus on creative, strategic work. 
Give concrete examples of what they'll gain, not just what the company will save. 

3. Create "Peer Advocates." 
Train early adopters first and let them share their positive experiences peer-to-peer. Trust spreads faster sideways than top-down.

4. Establish a "Human-in-the-Loop" rule. 
Make it clear that the final decisions, the creativity, and ethical judgments will always be made by a person. 

AI is a tool, not the new boss. 

The success of any AI rollout isn't measured in processing power. 

It's measured in team trust.

Everyone is asking if AI will take their job. 

I'm asking if it will make us forget how to be human.

The more we outsource tasks to technology, the more valuable the "last 
mile" of human connection becomes. 

These are the skills AI can't replicate,

And they're your new career anchor.

Here are 3 human skills I help professionals strengthen because they don’t come from algorithms, but from awareness:

1. Pattern Interruption:-
AI is built on recognizing patterns. You create value when you challenge it. The ability to challenge the status quo, ask "what if we did this differently?" isn’t resistance, it’s leadership

2. Trust Building:- 
AI can provide an answer. It can't build a relationship. The ability to establish trust with clients and colleagues is built on listening, reliability, and genuine care.

3. Nuanced Judgment:- 
AI operates on data and logic. It can't navigate the gray areas of a complex negotiation or make a tough ethical call where there's no clear right answer. That requires human wisdom.

So no, don’t race the machine.

Learn to master what it never will.

This is what I experienced initially 

I didn’t set boundaries and just kept giving my time, energy, support, listening ear, coaching, presence.

In short, sab de diya!

Not because I wanted anything back.

But thoda respect? 
Thoda sa consistency?

That’s not too much to expect from your inner circle, right?

Turns out, it is.

And here’s what I learned the hard way:

People will treat you exactly how you allow them to.

I used to blame others. But one day I sat with it, and realized: I let them.

→ I stayed available for one-sided friendships
→ I showed up 100% for people who gave me 10%
→ I overextended for people who barely showed up

That’s not kindness.
That’s self-abandonment dressed as empathy.

So I stopped.

No fights, no drama
Just silence, boundaries, and a fair distance

I stopped replying
I stopped over-explaining
I stopped caring the way I used to

Because if you can’t stand beside me at my lowest,
You don’t get a front row seat at my best.

I believed 'failure' is when they doubt you.

Turns out, it’s when you start believing them.

It was in 2019 when I was in Bangalore, working on a dream campaign for one of the world's largest lifestyle brands while pursuing a career in event management.

On paper, everything looked perfect:

→A respected company
→A marquee client
→Work I was proud of

But inside, I was shrinking.

My manager, a woman I hoped would mentor me, began humiliating me in front of my team. 

Not once, not twice, but every single day.

My work got praised by the client, but I got blamed for things I didn’t do. 

Soon after, tasks became threats, and guidance became public shaming.

I used to think: I’m a girls’ girl. Women lift women. 
That’s what we do.

But I learned the hard way that sometimes, you have to lift yourself first.

Every evening, I’d walk back to my room in Bangalore, call my friends, and cry quietly before preparing for another day.

→I didn’t quit
→I didn’t break out loud
→But inside, I was done

Until one night, after yet another ultimatum, I realized that this wasn’t growth.

This is erasure, and I chose to leave.

That was professional failure number 12 for me, not because I left, but because I allowed my dignity to be chipped away for so long📍

I promised myself this:

✅I will always teach boundaries as fiercely as I teach skills.
✅I will never let someone silence my voice in the name of “culture.”
✅I will never let the women around me feel unsupported the way I once did.

If you’re in a place right now where your worth is invisible, please hear me:

❎Walking away is NOT a weakness.
❎Finding your voice is NOT rebellion.

✅It’s self-respect, it’s survival.
✅And it’s the first step to becoming who you’re meant to be.

We fixed where we work, but we forgot to fix how we talk, and this is the scary reality of a  hybrid work culture.

That’s why I say that hybrid work is not failing because of the model.
It’s failing because of communication.

In the last few years, we’ve learned to split our time between office desks, home offices, and sometimes even coffee shops.

But what hasn’t caught up yet is the way we communicate.

Here’s the truth I see across teams I coach:

❌Zoom calls replace real conversations.
❌Messages are lost in endless email chains.
❌Some voices get amplified, others go unheard.

Hybrid work doesn’t break teams.
Hybrid communication does.

So what works?

1. Set clarity norms 
→ What belongs on email, what belongs on Slack/Teams, and what deserves a phone call.

2. Respect response times 
→ Just because someone is online doesn’t mean they’re instantly available.

3. Keep inclusion in check 
→ Remote voices need intentional space. Call them in before they tune out.

4. Don’t let tech replace trust 
→ A check-in isn’t always about work; sometimes it’s about people.

That little voice in your head telling you you're a fraud?

What if it's the only one telling you the truth?

The problem isn't the voice. 

It's that we've forgotten how to distinguish between the two kinds of voices that speak to us.

One is The Imposter. 

It's a liar. 

It whispers that you're a fraud even when you have the wins to prove it. 
It thrives on emotion and ignores facts.

The other is The Under-Prepared Student. 
It’s brutally honest. 

It screams that you’re nervous because you skipped the prep, and you know it.

The biggest mistake we make is treating The Student like The Imposter.

Your job isn't to silence the voice. It's to give it the right medicine:

→ If The Imposter is speaking: 
Fight the feeling with facts. 
Review your past successes. 
Trust the work you've already done.

→ If The Student is speaking: 
Fix the fact with action. 
Stop analyzing the feeling and start preparing.

Stop letting a popular label become a professional excuse.

Confidence isn't the absence of doubt. 

It's the courage to diagnose it honestly and take the right action.

Think about the last time you felt that doubt.
