Executive Director, GeroPsych Consultants Pte Ltd 1. Who am I? I am a geropsychology specialist working in both industry and academia. 2. Why Industry? I started caring for my frail maternal Grandma when I was an undergraduate student. Years later, when Mum battled cancer and depression, I became a caregiver again. Soon after Mum passed on, Dad suffered a series of mini-strokes, risking vascular dementia. Caring for loved ones through cancer, strokes, and dementia drove my passion to help others navigate eldercare. I defended my PhD dissertation, focusing on formal long-term care and caregivers' well-being, when the world was locked down by Covid-19, two weeks before Dad's passing. 3. Who Do I Serve? Caregivers managing elderly family members with dementia. Families seeking practical guidance and emotional support in eldercare. Healthcare professionals focused on integrated care and caregiving research. 4. What Problems Do I Help Resolve? Dementia prevention: Offering strategies to delay cognitive decline. Caregiver well-being: Insights into maintaining mental and emotional health. Navigating eldercare: Helping families with the emotional, financial, and logistical challenges of caregiving. 5. What Sets Me Apart? My research on dementia and informal caregiving has been widely recognized, with one of my papers cited in the Singapore Parliament in 2022 during the Women's Development White Paper debate. I blend personal caregiving experiences with my PhD, offering both compassionate understanding and evidence-based solutions to the caregiving challenges faced by families in Singapore. I am an adjunct faculty teaching geropsychology at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. I also serve as an editorial board member of three scientific journals, an honorary secretary of Centre for Seniors, and honorary treasurer of Gerontological Society Singapore. 5. What Are My Key Achievements? Completion of a PhD focused on formal long-term care and informal caregivers’ well-being. Groundbreaking research linking caregiver burden, depression, and health status to long-term care service utilization. Published findings supporting integrated care models emphasizing early and sustained interventions for caregivers and patients.
