Strategy Eats Systems For Breakfast. Consider this: Do you think Richard Branson & Elon Musk are documenting their systems for their team to follow? Or are they running strategy? Systems sell well because people don't want to think. If you prefer letting others do your thinking, please stop reading this. People shit on strategy because it's abstract. People ignore strategy because it's irrelevant without context. People undervalue strategy because they haven't seen the magic it can bring. Over the last decade, I've gone from a professional poker player making $1m+/yr to buying and scaling businesses. In the first 31 months of buying my first business, I took it from $2,500 MRR to $380,832 MRR ($4.57m/yr), or a 152x. Although I brag about that fast growth, the first year was hard. It was hard because I: - Developed the false belief that I must systematise everything ASAP so that someone else can do the work for me. - Listened to the gurus who tell you that systems allow you to chill at the beach while their business runs perfectly. - Bought get-rich-quick courses with all the magic systems and templates (bye-bye $1m poker money) Systems failed for me. And then I decided to lean into my intuition and focus on strategy instead. But I know that strategy is too abstract and hard for people to grasp... Which is why I decided... The only way to share strategy is to build in public... So that you get sufficient context on how strategies are thought through and why they're used. From May to Dec 2024, I challenged myself to build two new $1m+/year businesses. Unlike systems which sell you into "using it forever", Strategy is experimenting and iterating. Some will fail, some will work. As Naval Ravikant puts it: Someone selling you their get-rich-quick scheme is them getting rich off you. Most systems sold to you are what worked for them in the past, in their specific situation. That's the equivalent of them giving you their winning lottery ticket number. It might have worked for them, but it seldom works for you. Because systems sold in public have a half-life. Those social media hooks or business systems you copy from their template are also given to others. So it quickly devalues and becomes commoditised. To win in the ultimate game of business, you must learn to do your own thinking. Consider following my journey where I share my strategies and why I run them. So that you can develop your own strategies and pursue your journey to become Chairman. Follow the journey: https://wayneyap.com/newsletter Twitter: @wayneyap Instagram: @wayneyap_
