I'm curious. Lately, I've been thinking about the strange dance we call "getting a job" in the era of ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems). Candidates are being trained—no, forced—to customize their resumes to match job descriptions perfectly. Every keyword, every bullet point surgically aligned to bypass the algorithm. Recruiters are being trained to let the "system" sort, and prioritized candidates based on "matches". So here's the million-dollar question: If someone tailors their resume so much that it mirrors the job description word for word...Is that resume a reflection of the person's actual experience, or just a reflection of the algorithm's expectations? I can’t help but wonder how many hiring managers are facepalming three months in, thinking: "Wait, I thought I hired a rockstar... why does this feel like buying a knockoff bag online?" Customization is smart, but overselling through ATS optimization is creating a market of paper-perfect candidates... and real-world mismatches. It's also ATS eating ATS. Maybe it’s time we ask: Are we hiring based on what’s real—or just what’s optimized? Is this legitimate or is this fake? We should also ask ourselves if the job descriptions are correct, or represent the full scope of the role. Most professionals do not work in factory lines with 3-4 black or white tasks - your missing all the grey in between and the art of the functions. Food for thought. I'm seriously curious - are recruiters, and hiring managers feeling a bait and switch? Is anyone else looking for opportunities struggling with this? I'll be honest, I'm haven't been customizing. It feels manipulation of the data for competitive edge. I know I should given the system is rigged this way - but as a long term quality data and decisioning person it gives me serious heartburn and ethical pause to feed a alternative truth world. #recruiting #hiring #ats #careerdevelopment #futureofwork #layoffs #jobreductions #executives #lookingforopportunities #leadership #founders

7 Reasons Why Information Fiefdoms Kill Digital Transformation Studies show most digital transformations fail. Information silos are often the hidden culprit. Your organization's knowledge remains trapped while your efforts suffocate. 1: Recognize invisible walls When departments build knowledge bases that rarely connect, initiatives fragment. Marketing can't access Sales data. IT develops without Operations input. • Map knowledge flows between departments • Implement shared digital workspaces • Reward cross-departmental sharing • Establish cross-functional sessions ~ 2: Measure hidden costs Teams duplicate efforts when they can't access existing solutions. Organizations implement unrealistic standards like "5 9's" (99.999%) server patching without risk context. • Calculate time spent searching • Document duplicated work • Track delayed decisions • Measure budget overruns ~ 3: Challenge territorial mindset When departmental metrics don't align with organization goals, information becomes currency. • Revise metrics to reward sharing • Create recognition for collaboration • Remove information gatekeepers • Implement transparent processes ~ 4: Deploy connection technology The right platforms reduce friction in information sharing. • Implement enterprise search • Standardize collaboration platforms • Create API connections • Develop unified dashboards ~ 5: Redesign cross-boundary workflows Information gets trapped between process steps. Transformation requires end-to-end redesign. • Map cross-department processes • Identify where insights get lost • Standardize documentation • Create responsibility matrices ~ 6: Build sharing culture Information sharing happens when people feel psychologically safe. • Start with lessons learned • Celebrate collaboration • Create mentorship programs • Host knowledge fairs ~ 7: Lead by example When leaders maintain silos, transformation efforts falter. • Create unified executive dashboards • Rotate executives across functions • Hold open leadership meetings • Share executive learning ~ What information fiefdom is causing friction in your digital transformation?

Hi everyone, This is a difficult post for me to write, but I’ve learned that sometimes asking for help is the bravest thing we can do. Over the past few months, I have been actively searching for a new role in cybersecurity, help desk, or system administration. I’ve applied to countless positions, kept learning, stayed positive and still, I’m struggling to find my next opportunity. My recent roles have given me hands-on experience in IT support, incident response, system imaging, and endpoint security. I’ve worked in environments ranging from small support teams to enterprise organizations, and I’ve done everything from troubleshooting and imaging to supporting security investigations. I’m currently open to full-time or contract roles that are remote, hybrid, or in-person in the Seattle area or beyond. My goal is to continue growing in the tech and cybersecurity space, and I’d be incredibly grateful for any leads, referrals, or advice you’re willing to share. If you know of any opportunities that might be a fit, or if you're open to connecting and chatting, I’d truly appreciate it. Thank you for reading this, and thank you in advance for any support you’re able to offer. #OpenToWork #Cybersecurity #ITSupport #SysAdmin #HelpDesk #JobSearch #SeattleJobs

Siemens has officially reached 25% increase in operational efficiency. Here's what you probably don't know: When Siemens first started exploring generative AI applications, they faced the challenge of transforming their traditional manufacturing processes. But now they've revolutionized their maintenance systems through generative AI. How did this happen? By focusing on data, not just algorithms. Siemens employs generative AI algorithms to monitor equipment conditions and predict when maintenance should be performed. Their approach combines real-time sensor data with historical analysis, enabling the system to identify patterns that precede equipment failures. The results speak for themselves: - Significant reduction in equipment downtime - Dramatic decrease in unplanned outages - 25% increase in operational efficiency - Optimized maintenance schedules minimizing disruptions For investors looking at industrial AI plays, this is why data infrastructure must come first. Siemens didn't just implement fancy algorithms - they built robust data collection systems that made their AI truly valuable. What's your take on manufacturing firms leveraging generative AI for predictive maintenance? Are you seeing similar ROI in your portfolio companies? *Note: These insights and data are originally from my book "Unleashing the Power of Data with Trusted AI" - check the link in my bio for more case studies on how companies are achieving real ROI from AI investments. ___ Become part of AI's ethical future today. "Overqualified" is a mix of ageism, not wanting to pay for experience and fear the candidate will leave for fairer weather. It's also become the new black. A case to follow.

Is it illegal to reject "overqualified" candidates? We're about to find out. Last year, a federal class action lawsuit was filed against RTX (Raytheon) on behalf of a 67-year-old engineer who applied for 7+ jobs with RTX in 4 years. He has all of the qualifications: * 4 decades of experience * federal government security clearance * 2 key information security and privacy certifications * previous contractor for US Dept of Homeland Security What's interesting to me is RTX's response: His “excess years of overall experience is a legitimate, nondiscriminatory reason for refusing to hire him.” Wow. I guess we'll find out if that's actually true. With the numbers of folks wanting to work into their 60s growing, the implications of this lawsuit are huge. What are your thoughts on all of this? Have you ever been called "overqualified"? Hiring managers: have you ever rejected a candidate for being "overqualified"? Do you think we'll see more lawsuits to come? #overqualified #ageism 🔔 Follow Colleen and Ageless Careers for more tips.

The best data cultures are really just environments where data-conscious decisions are as natural as breathing. Creating this culture isn't a one-time effort—it's continuous. The political nature of data means you need people who aren't afraid to challenge assumptions. Breaking down information fiefdoms requires both political savvy and strategic alignment.

5 key trends reshaping the Chief Data Officer role: • AI merging with Data leadership • Focus shifting from reports to strategy & ethical use • Data by Design taking center stage • AI, Data, Privacy & Cyber Organizational Integration • Skills evolving beyond technical The future CDAIO will be less about producing data and more about responsible AI governance and ethics.

When I joined Azure Product Engineering, I was stepping into a new org, new culture, and a totally different language than the one I had just come from. I’m a big believer in trying to understand the inside baseball, networking, and support systems, so I asked the EVP who had recruited me for a mentor. Someone influential. Someone who could help me navigate. He gave me a name. A connection was made. But the first meeting was… rough. No intros, no pleasantries, no shared goals, no discussion of strengths or career path. Just: ❌️You’re not technical enough to succeed here. ❌️Your communication style is off. ❌️Your approach is all wrong. Mind you—we’d never worked together before. The feedback wasn’t just harsh—it was flat-out inaccurate. Still, I gave it a second shot. The second session? Even worse. I finally asked my sponsor what, exactly, I was supposed to be learning. His answer? “Nothing. I don’t want you to learn anything from them.” Confused, I asked why he’d connected us. His reply, “Because I want you to learn to not react". My response was it would have been nice to know that to which the response was "You don’t get to choose who’s in the room, or get a heads up. You need to be able to take it and keep going.”. That moment taught me something that no traditional mentorship ever could. Mentors give you guidance. Sponsors? They give you lessons. Hard ones. Strategic ones. Lessons that mold your executive resilience—even if they come disguised as dysfunction. To this day, I’m grateful for that moment. It was brutal. It was deliberate. And it made me stronger. If you're lucky enough to have a real sponsor in your corner—thank them. They don’t just advocate. They fortify. https://lnkd.in/gniMtfUJ #mentors #sponsors #womenintech #executives #leadership #resilience

If you had told me a year ago that I’d be launching a wellness brand rooted in herbs, healing, and heritage—I probably would’ve laughed from behind a spreadsheet or PowerPoint. But here we are. As an ADHD tech exec navigating job loss, layoffs, and the chaotic modern job market, I needed something real—a place to pour my energy, my ideas, my exhaustion, and my healing. Something to build while navigating uncertainty. At first, it was just about movement. Living with chronic illness means every ounce of energy matters. The "spoonie life" is already a challenge—add long-term unemployment, the financial and emotional strain of the founder grind, and let’s just say - there were many days I couldn’t get out of bed. So I started small. Yoga. Walks with the dogs. Exploring the woods on our property. Then I started noticing—plants, lichens, flowers, trees. That led me to herbalist and foraging groups. Then to naturopathy. Then to a local PNW university for courses. Before I knew it, I was deep in the world of tinctures, salves, teas, skincare, and botanical wellness. And I fell in love. Why? Because I'm a lifelong learner. There’s so much depth to this world—its history, its science, its soul. Because it was tangible - I could see it, touch it, smell it - unlike the 0's and 1's I normally live in - for this Oklahoma girl getting my hands dirty feels a bit like home. And because I’m a community builder. Trading seeds, recipes, and herbal hacks with other crafters has filled my cup. And then came the spark: What if I didn’t just make things? What if I helped others do the same? Better tools. Better tracking. Batch tracking & logs. Ratio calculators. Recipe tracking. Education. Supplier NSAT. Community commerce. So while Wicked Roots & Remedies—my personal product line—officially launches today… it’s just the beginning. While I continue to look for my next opportunity I'm also building something bigger: A wildcrafter’s co-op. A community. A living, breathing platform for herbal artisans, wellness seekers, and modern-day alchemists. So if your curious, want to follow the evolution or you love ethically wildcrafted, small-batch skincare and wellness—check out the store. https://lnkd.in/gzvCRBJY And don’t forget—Mother’s Day is almost here. 90% of data governance initiatives fail because of culture. And we’re shocked when 42% of AI initiatives fail? https://lnkd.in/gfMPETZM AI doesn’t just inherit our data systems—it inherits your culture, too. If your organization still treats governance like a gate, or treats data like an afterthought, you’re not “AI-ready.” You’re building on sand. What if you could codify strategy and culture into the actual delivery process? Not just talk about it. Not just strategy or culture on a slide. Not just train about it. Actually embed it.❤️ Imagine if: ✅️Engineers didn’t just ship code—they shipped trust. ✅️Governance wasn’t just policy on paper —it was automatically enforced. ✅️Risk awareness wasn’t a check—it was muscle memory. This is what happens when culture, strategy, and execution stop living in silos—and start living in your systems. It's not fictious nirvana. I know it’s possible—because I’ve done it. You see, I don’t write frameworks that sit on a shelf. I embed them into the muscle memory of organizations. Take the Azure Engineering Fundamentals program. When Azure was in its infancy - a foundational shift was needed. Engineers had to move from a long-tail box product mindset to cloud-native and service-based. One where services were stacked, and dependent on other services. Services that could ship in a day - a very different mindset, tools set and even architectural approach. To ensure availability, extensibility, scalability and trust we had to embed privacy, availability, BCDR, capacity, monitoring, security, risk, telemetry—not just into policies, but into the SDLC itself. I built the tooling. We embedded it in the process. We trained leaders to reinforce it. We watched teams internalize it. Then we watched decisioning made against it. Incident rates dropped. Security and compliance reviews were aced. Certifications rolled. Engineering confidence rose. Compliance became just how we build. This is what I call Data by Design—but it applies to AI, ethics, and trust, too. If you can’t embed it, you can’t scale it., And if we don’t scale cultural readiness now, AI will inherit our failures. #ai #future #data #artificalintelligence #datagoverance #governance #ethics #responsibleuse #cyber #privacy #compliance #datafam #cto #cdaio #cdo #executives #culture

Let’s stop pretending it’s business as usual. We’re Living Through the Greatest White-Collar Depression of Our Time. Over the past five years, professionals have faced one relentless wave after another. COVID redefined work. Inflation swallowed raises, and even worse evaporated jobs. Now tariffs have triggered economic whiplash. Recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows 248,000 white-collar jobs have been lost since May 2024, marking a 17-month decline not seen since major financial crises. In fact, 25% of all job losses in 2024 were in the professional and business services sectors. https://lnkd.in/gPg5HCN5 Companies slashed headcount stating pandemic overhiring, and inflation. Yet, shortly rehired at a much lower salary and reported record earnings. And what are we seeing in response? 41% of firms plan workforce reductions due to AI, yet 89% report no ROI. It’s cost-cutting without vision, and it’s hollowing out teams already pushed to the brink. Let’s be honest: the tech sector in particular has always been brutal. From the dot-com crash, to the 2008 recession, to post-COVID volatility, we’ve accepted long hours, unstable priorities, cutthroat culture, egos and outdated management styles—all in the name of innovation. Now, it’s also become ageist, extractive, and unsustainable. A 2024 CIO.com report found 65% of engineers experienced burnout, and 1 in 3 tech workers fear they’re “too old” to stay relevant. And through it all, we’re expected to pivot, upskill, and stay “grateful.” https://lnkd.in/gyA2BV2g Let me be clear: AI is not the enemy. The enemy is a profit over people, short-sighted leadership, poor collaboration, action and the lack of policy. The systems we’ve built around education, labor, and economic security - They just weren’t designed for this velocity or pace of change. If we want a future that’s both AI-powered and human-centered, we need: 1️⃣Education reform & reskilling at scale 2️⃣Updated job training, employment and economic protections 3️⃣Policies that align innovation with economic equity 4️⃣Cultural shifts in how we treat professionals not as disposable labor but as strategic assets 5️⃣Global Universal Basic Income as the existing economic processes will not work for a jobless economy or even a major shift in jobs Professionals are the automation target. But we’re also the ones best equipped to shape this future—if we’re still standing. Let’s stop blaming individuals and start demanding systems that evolve with us. Be active. #economy #future #humans #ai #professionals #leadership #policy #ubi #education #training #tomorrow #datafam TheAssociation.AI #jobs #layoffs #opportunities #workforce

Lwanga Yonke and Stephanie Valarezo on Adapting To Change: Professionally and Personally. A incredibly relevant topic given the rapid-pace of technology change, the rise of #GenerativeAI, the political shifts and the rippling impacts to global jobs and economic systems. Then a afternoon session with the lovely Meenu Howland, CPBI, CSM, CDMP on Data Management - The AI Differentiator. Meenu and I shared a 7 step framework that enables you to manage the people, process, data, technology and risk landscapes not only for today but the #databydesign and the future-proof e2e automations that seamlessly enables you to extend and scale each of those dimensions tomorrow, next month or for years to come.
