West Baffin Co-Operative Limited

The Hudson’s Bay Company established a trading post at Kinngait (formerly Cape Dorset) in 1913, followed by the missions, the school and in 1959, the West Baffin Co-operative. The Co-op is the oldest arts organization in the Canadian Arctic, and the Kinngait Studios are the oldest professional printmaking facility in Canada. Kinngait is home to some of Canada’s most acclaimed Inuit artists, and the Co-op and its Toronto marketing office, Dorset Fine Arts, have been representing them for the past sixty years.

Inuit Art Foundation

Established in 1987 as a registered charitable organization, the Inuit Art Foundation provides support to Canada’s Inuit arts communities and is the sole national body mandated to promote Inuit art and artists within Canada and internationally. The Foundation is deeply invested in the rich history and tradition of Canada’s Inuit artistic expressions while actively contributing to the growth and development of these unique and diverse contemporary art practices. The Foundation undertakes advocacy on behalf of Inuit artists and realises a number of strategies aimed at enhancing the appreciation and interpretation of Inuit art. The Inuit Art Foundation is funded by contributions from the private sector along with Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada and other public agencies. A Board of Directors and several standing committees oversee the Foundation.

Director

William Huffman is an arts administrator, curator, educator and writer with a history of extensive involvement on both local and international cultural fronts. He was Executive Director with Inuit Art Foundation, Coordinator of the Audience and Market Development Office at Canada Council for the Arts, Associate Director with Toronto Arts Council and Toronto Arts Foundation and has held other leadership positions at a number of Canadian cultural institutions. He is currently responsible for special projects and global marketing initiatives with West Baffin Cooperative, working between its Kinngait (Nunavut) and Toronto offices. His recent curatorial projects include many international traveling exhibitions, and in 2023 Huffman was appointed Commissioner for the Canadian Pavilion for the Gwangju Biennale in the Republic of Korea.
