Senior Vice President, National Community Engagement

City of Mesa

Currently lead a team of 15 professionals focused on business attraction, retention and expansion, entrepreneurship, redevelopment, and revitalization for Mesa, Arizona. Since I assumed the role of Director, the Office of Economic Development has assisted in creating and retaining more than 29,000 jobs, successfully landing more than 421 projects and generating $14.4 billion of capital investment to Mesa. Notable projects include attracting five new higher education institutions, Apple, Boeing, Google, Meta, NTT, XNRGY, AT&T, CyrusOne, Dexcom, EdgeCore, Santander Consumer USA, Waymo, CMC Steel, JX Nippon, Gulfstream Aerospace, Cessna Aviation, Able Engineering/Textron Aviation, Virgin Galactic, and ElectraMeccanica. Our office was responsible for leading the adaptive reuse of the Air Force Research Laboratory, converting it to the Arizona Laboratories for Security and Defense Research (AZLabs) all while maintaining the high-security protocols. My team was also responsible for retaining the Chicago Cubs and Oakland A’s spring training operations, MD Helicopters’ corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility, and expanding Banner Health’s Desert Medical Center and Banner Children’s at Desert.

Moreover, we have successfully implemented an entrepreneurship program which includes LAUNCHPOINT, Mesa’s Technology Accelerator, and the Mesa Business Builder Small Business Assistance Program. Other accomplishments include the creation of the Elliot Road Technology Corridor which has everything high-tech manufacturers need, including a streamlined entitlement process, plenty of power and infrastructure, and creating the East, West, and Southwest Mesa Redevelopment Areas (RDA).

In 2017, the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) recognized Mesa's Office of Economic Development (OED) as one of the first 60 Accredited Economic Development Organizations (AEDO) in North America. Mesa OED obtained reaccreditation in 2020.

As Director of Economic Development for the City of Richmond, Virginia, implemented creative financing solutions for a wide variety of economic and community development projects.

City of Manchester

Guided major development projects including a $40 million TIF-financed mixed use development and the $50+ million riverfront stadium development through the political and regulatory approval process.

Bringing more than 30 years of results-driven leadership in revitalization strategies, public/private partnership opportunities, project financing and business recruitment, my mission is to grow the local economy through the strategic expansion of the City of Mesa's industries of opportunity - Healthcare, Education, Aerospace, Aviation and Technology/Tourism (H.E.A.T.). Shifting the paradigm to pursue high-value, high-wage jobs has been instrumental in changing the fabric of economic development in Mesa.
