Frequent upheavals, from one place to the next and sporadic childhood education, highlighted the unlikelihood of an academic career for me. A Kinaesthetic and Spatial learner, struggling with undiagnosed Dyslexia... Whilst hiding on the spectrum, long before it was a recognised everyday social media phrase. You wouldn't believe the jobs I have done over the years: *Metal foundry worker *Barman *Postal worker (driver) *Milkman (allowed me to start my photography business) *Wedding photographer *Furniture sales *Warehouse packer *Assembly line *Car washer *Artist *Car sales *Sales manager *Finance manager *General manager *Chef *Head Chef *Hotel manager *Company Director *Tiler/Laminate floor fitter *Eng' school operator... with not a single recognised qualification, and 7 of these positions were businesses I started myself, from nothing. I'm 67 now, retired... Nah, just launched into the next phase of my life (it's in my featured post). Whilst I do not recommend the absence of qualifications... I am testament to the possibility of getting on in life, if you can 'apply' yourself. Application, to any circumstance, is key to moving forward. Skills and experience will grow, if we expose ourselves to opportunities, and diversity is not a blot on your c.v. it demonstrates creativity, adaptability and adventure. Presented in a positive light, these are qualities that 'none corporate' businesses are attracted to and where you should present yourself, when looking for employment without qualifications. I'm definitely not any different than the next person who is struggling to find work. It's everywhere even in a recession. Get out there and meet people, talk to people, shop owners, the guy painting a house or walking the dog... They probably won't give you a job, but they might point you in the right direction... and never burn bridges. I have landed some incredible positions, because previous colleagues remembered me and put me forward. Above all, stay positive, don't give up. Take any job... it's not for life and its not who you are!
