I have been instrumental in driving the growth of 13D’s business for three decades by being actively involved in the identification, development, and analysis of many of the firm’s core global investment themes—primarily focusing on how disruptive technologies are helping provide solutions to economic problems and transforming industries through the “Law of Accelerating Returns” and Joseph Schumpeter’s “Gales of Creative Destruction.”

The AI industry is experiencing explosive growth, but its hunger for energy is raising concerns. 

To address this, nuclear power is emerging as a potential carbon-free energy solution that is becoming critical to decarbonize economies and increase energy security.  As generative AI and Large Language Models proliferate, nuclear energy could become essential to power data centers.  

In early March, it was reported that Amazon Web Services acquired Talen Energy’s data center campus in Pennsylvania, which draws power from Talen Energy’s neighboring 2.5 gigawatt nuclear power station. 
 
Will the advent of Small Modular Reactors and Microreactors ultimately become the preferred energy source for the global data center industry?
