Mary Dee began writing children's books after observing the robots rolling down the sidewalks of her hometown of Fairfax City, Virginia. Having been a kindergarten teacher early in her career, she pondered how children would engage with something that was part of their daily environment. So she created a scenario in which a local robot becomes a problem solver for Robin and her wise grandmother. Rover the Robot is a nod to the early Rovers of the NASA space program which figured in Mary's own childhood memories. After the enthusiastic reception of her first book, she went on to write a second and then to collaborate with Tom Saputo, a professional musician and composter, to create audiobooks complete with original music. The books are now available on Amazon in a paper edition, audiobooks, and a Kindle edition. Mary fully expects to continue writing adventures for the robots that exist today in the lives of children who tend to embrace new technologies without reserve. Mary Dee is always happy to do book readings, discuss her books, and to talk with other children's authors.
