Last night, Tucker Carlson uploaded a video claiming Christians are persecuted by the Israeli government. 

As evidence of this, he platformed a Jew-hating pastor from Bethlehem. 

The problem?

Bethlehem is NOT governed by Israel. 

Bethlehem is under the control of the PA, and has been for ~30 years. 

My video pointing this out was obviously mass reported and removed for “harassment” because, you know, words are violence and any truth that doesn’t 
 fit the narrative is no longer truth. 

TikTok, the CCP, and (il)liberals: a match made in hell.

While Lebron’s got squatters for neighbors, HB621 was just signed into law in Florida, ensuring that you won’t. 

The new law, codified at 82.036 Fla. Stat., permits homeowners to call the sheriff to immediately remove squatters from their properties without the need for lengthy litigation.

Another win for Florida.

Israel Defense Forces work to protect civilians — not kill them

Since Oct. 7, Israel has received 12,745 new immigrants, 3,074 of them in March, quadrupling totals for October 2023.

Amid escalating global antisemitism, there has been a significant rise in immigration requests from France, Canada, the US, South Africa, Ukraine and Australia.

Data from the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration highlights a consistent monthly increase in immigration since Oct. 7, 2023, coinciding with the continuation of the war.

As I was flipping through the pages of an inflight magazine recently, tucked between the glossy full page advertisements for new luxury condos, I came across this ad seeking investors in a #miami #realestate project. 

Now, I can’t tell you if the #sponsor is just thinking out of the box or if this is another sign of how difficult the capital markets are right now (my money is on the latter), but I can tell you exactly which SEC exemption from registration they are relying on.

Yesteray, Rep. Adam Schiff introduced the Generative AI Copyright Disclosure Act of 2024 as a new bill before the House. 

The Act would require anyone who creates (or alters) a training dataset which is to be used in building a generative AI system submit a notice to the Copyright Register a "sufficiently detailed summary of any copyrighted works used in the training dataset ... or to alter the training dataset." 

The notice would have to be filed either (i) not later than 30 days before the generative #AI system is made available to consumers (in the case where it is a new generative AI system), or (ii) within 30 days of the Act taking effect (in the case where it is an existing generative AI system).

Failure to file the notice with the Copyright Register will result in a civil penalty "not less than $5,000." 

My thoughts:

The devil is in the details as it relates to the regulations promulgated by the Copyright Register viz. the implementation of this Act, but "not less than $5,000" is not particularly helpful. If the fine is only $5,000, it will be treated as a cost of doing business for anyone who doesn't want to comply with the Act. 

Perhaps a viable solution would be creating a rebuttable presumption in favor of copyright holders where no notice is filed. In other words, a copyright holder wishing to bring a suit for infringement, where no notice was filed, would benefit from the burden of proof falling on the alleged-infringer to prove that the copyright work in question was NOT used in the training dataset, and not the other way around. 

Second, and more importantly, this Act does nothing to answer the question of whether or not training AI on datasets of copyrighted works constitutes infringement. The dozen + lawsuits on this question are still pending. Thus, given that this Act is not an attempt to legislate an answer to this question, and given that we have no decided caselaw on the issue, this Act seems, at best, premature and, at worst, like another example of an unnecessary burden created by government. 

If training generative AI systems on copyrighted works is NOT #infringement, the works used in the training should not be reported and (depending on the level of specificity required by the Register's regulations) give rise to trade secret concerns. 

If training generative AI systems on copyrighted works IS infringement, then a notice to the copyright register should actually require the opposite--confirmation (either under penalty of perjury or by providing the works under seal) that the dataset does NOT contain copyrighted works.

And while the deals (and budgets) have gotten bigger, all too often the contracts have not evolved in a way that protects both parties. 

Between the two, however, it is the content creators who are the most at risk when they don't properly protect themselves.

Most content creators love creating content and are only really concerned with making sure they are paid and making sure they are being paid fairly.
